Netherlands released the roster of 24 players that will represent the country at the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam during July 2-12 of this year.
The team consists of 10 pitchers, 5 outfielders, 7 infielders and 2 catchers and will be managed for first by norteamerican skipper Rod Delmico. Some players in the team are well know in international competitions and include veterans Sidney de Jong, Bryan Engelhardt, Eugene Kingsale, David Bergman, Rob Cordemans, and Diegomar Markwell.
However new faces will present the Dutch team and according to baseball writer Pim Van Nes "From DOOR Neptunus the many scouts from around the world will see pitcher Kevin Heijstek, infielder Jeffrey Arends and outfielder Shaldimar Daantji. From L&D Amsterdam Pirates first invitations were received by infielders Nick Urbanus and Zair Koeiman and by outfielder Bas de Jong and singles were delegated by Mr. Cocker HCAW (pitcher Joey Eijpe) and by Konica Minolta Pioniers (infielder Mark-Jan Moorman)."
Van Nes also added that "Remarkable farewell was announced by the Dutch récord man Dirk van’t Klooster, who between 1998 and 2009 participated in 211 international games around the world. The right fielder played in five European Championships (all won), five IBAF World Cups (latest two times finished 4th), three Olympic Games and two World Baseball Classics (1 x second round). Van’t Klooster was nominated best right fielder of the 2000 Olympics in Sidney and best defensive player of the 2005 World Cup in Rotterdam. He will continue to play within the Netherlands for his club Corendon Kinheim."
