Alfredo Despaigne went 3-for-4 on Tuesday afternoon leading Team Cuba to an easy 7-1 win over Venezuela in a friendly match between the two american teams in preparation for the upcoming 39th edition of the Baseball World Cup in Panama.
Despaigne blasted two homers and added four RBIs in the game and now is hitting .875 (7-for-8) during his first two warmup games of the week.
Carlos Mory started for Venezuela and did great job trowing 4.0 complete innings with only three hits allowed and 6 consecutive strikeouts.
In the fifth lefty Jesus Reyes came in relief and allowed all runs. In that inning Cuba scored two runs thanks to Despaigne's first homer of the game taking a 2-0 lead. Venezuela added one in the top of the sixth after Oscar Angulo's homer against Cuban starter Miguel A. Gonzalez.
But in the sixth Despaigne homered again to put the score 4-1 and in the seventh Ariel Pestano rounded the Cuban score with a three-run homer for the decisive 7-1 score.
Miguel A. Gonzalez threw 6.0 innings allowing 5 hits and just one run while struckout 5 Venezuelan hitters.
For Cuba also worked righthander Dalier Hinojosa (2,0 innings, a double allowed and 2 struckouts), and young righthander Alberto Soto La O, who closed the game striking out two batters.
The Cuban manager, Alfonso Urquiola, used the following lineup:
