WBC'2017: Otani Out as Pitcher for WBC

An ankle injury will prevent fans from witnessing the 100 mile per hour fastball from Shohei Otani at the World Baseball Classic. He could still be available as a hitter if his ankle can improve. If the ankle does not improve he could drop out of the tournament completely, leaving Japan without one of the best players in the tournament.

Also in Japanese news the Softbank Hawks are prepared to offer Cuba a contract for the services of Alfredo Despaigne once the World Baseball Classic is complete. Despaigne will be playing for his native Granma in the Series del Caribe that will start today and when that is complete he will be travelling to Japan to play for Cuba in the World Baseball Classic in March. Last year Despaigne played for the Chiba Lotte Marines, leading the team in homeruns.
