2016 Cuban Finals
After rain forced the cancellation of game six on Saturday the two teams played a double header today to determine the Cuban champion.
Ciego had won the first three but Pinar went on to win game six 7-3 to even the series at 3-3.
Pinar took it to a game seven by erupting for five runs in the first inning in game number six.
Yosvani Alarcon hit a two run single and Yordanis Alarcon clubbed a three run homerun to give Pinar an early 5-0 lead.
Andy Sarduy drove in three runs on a 3 for 3 day and the Tobacco Growers were able to hold off a Ciego come back to pull out an 8-7 win. Livan Moinelo was able to strike out Ariel Borrero with the tying run on third to secure the victory. Ciego still leads the series three games to two.
Pinar was able to avoid a sweep scratching out a 6-3 win over Ciego. Michael Gonzalez hit a three run homer and lead off hitter Lazaro Ramirez clubbed a solo shot to lead the charge.
Livan Moinelo captured the last five outs to preserve the win.
Ciego jumped out to a 6-0 lead and then held on as Pinar roared back, falling a run short in the 6-5 win by the Tigres. Yunier Cano, pitching on one day of rest after throwing five innings of relief the previous day gave up four hits but only one unearned run to preserve the victory. Dachel Duquesne got the start and the win for Ciego.
It took 13 innings but a walk off double by Yoelvis Fiss scored Yorelvis Charles who had started the inning with a single to give Ciego a 2-1 victory over Pinar to take a 2-0 lead in the championship series.
Yesterday the Ciego de Villa Tigers scored early and often to down the Pinar del Rio Tobacco Growers 9-4. They scored three in the first and three in the second to jump out to an early 6-0 lead. Pinar veteran Wilber Perez got the start but could only retire one hitter in the opening frame before getting the hook.
