2018 Postseason: Granma Repeats as Cuban Champions

Danel Castro hit a walk off grand slam homerun to give Las Tunas a 6-2 win in game six to send the Cuban championship to a final game seven. Jose Garcia pitched two innings of shutout relief to get the win. Vladimir Banos pitched a solid seven innings for Las Tunas, allowing just one earned run.


2018 Postseason: Stallions pound Woodcutters 11-5, take 3-2 Cuban Finals lead

The Stallions are now just one win away from the Cuban title, despite trailing this series 2-0 at one point.

Granma came away with a 11-5 win in Game 5 of the Cuban Finals, taking a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. They are now one win away from their second Cuban title. 

With the Stallions down 2-0 in the series to the Woodcutters, Alain Sánchez y Raidel Martínez were key, helping them win Game 3, 10-6, and start their three-game winning streak to shock the second best team during the regular-season.

The home team continues to hold serve with the 4-2 Granma win over Las Tunas on Wednesday night at Mártires de Barbados Stadium, to even the Cuban Finals series at two games apiece. 


Granma rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth off Las Tunas closer Jose A. García to erase a 2-1 deficit.

2018 Postseason: Stallions come from behind to beat Woodcuters in Game 3

Following a couple frustrating losses to begin the 2018 Cuban Finals, the Stallions snagged a much-needed 10-6 win over the Woodcutters in Game 3 on Tuesday night at Mártires de Barbados Stadium in Granma. Their series deficit is now cut in half before Wednesday night’s Game 4. 


Raúl González slugged a three run homer to close out a six run first inning to lead Granma to a 10-6 win. 

2018 Postseason: Woodcutters Overcome Rain, and Stallions, in Cuban Finals Game 1

In the first Cuban Finals game played at Julio A. Mella Stadium, after a long rain delay and with 15,000 fans, assorted players and media on hand, The Las Tunas Woodcutters topped the Granma Stallions 6-5 in Game 1 of the series.


Game 2 starts at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Mella stadium. RHP Yariel Rodríguez will pitch for Las Tunas and LHP Ulfrido García will be on the mound for Granma.

2018 Postseason: Woodcutters beat Lions 6-3 to force Game 7 of Semifinal Series

Las Tunas’s closer José A. García pitched two shutout innings and Rafael Viñales drove in the decisive run in the eighth during a 6-3 victory over the industrials Lions on Tuesday night that extended the Cuban Semifinals Series to a decisive Game 7.


Game 7 is Wednesday night in Las Tunas, with the winner advancing to the Cuban Finals against the 2017 champion Granma Stallions.

2018 Postseaon: Casanova Dominant in Complete-Game Gem As Industriales Beat Las Tunas 4-2 to take a 3-2 lead

The Industriales Lions didn't need any more late-inning dramatics.

They scored early and late this time, and Erlys Casanova did the rest to put the Lions one step closer of the Cuban National Series Finals.


Casanova had just held the Woodcutters to two runs and three hits in Industriales’s 4-2 victory on Saturday night in Game 5 of the Cuban Semifinals in front of 42,639 at Latinoamericano Stadium in Havana. 

2018 Postseason: Lions shut out Woodcutters in Cuban Semifinals Game 3, take a 2-1 lead in the series

On Thursday night in Havana and in front of a delirant crowd of 54,570, the Lions defeated the Woodcutters by a score of 4-0 in Game 3 of the 2018 Cuban Semifinals. The Lions now lead the Woodcutters 2-1 in the best of seven series.

The defending champion Granma Stallions have advanced to the finals after beating Matanzas 4-2 in game five of their best of seven series.

2018 Postseason: Granma One Win From Finals

Rain delayed the playing of the semi-finals. Granma got two games in at home and beat Matanzas while the Las Tunas-Industriales was delayed by the weather and will play Game 3 tomorrow at Latinoamericano Stadium in Havana.

2018 Cuban Semifinals schedule released

The schedule for the 2018 Cuban Semifinals, has been realeased.

The first series will kick off on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 7:15 pm (EST) with Game 1 between the Matanzas Crocodiles (Mtz) and the Granma Stallions (Grm). The series could go as late as Jan. 14, if the Semifinals need a full seven games to be decided.

Cuba Begins its Baseball Postseason on January 4th

The regular phase of Cuba’s National Baseball Series has concluded in its 57th edition and everything is ready for the postseason, although we will have to wait until the New Year for the final battles for the title to begin.

At the end of the second half of the 2017-2018 season, Matanzas (60-29), Las Tunas (59-31), Industriales (51-38) and Granma (49-39) won the right to play the most coveted crown of Cuban sports, thanks to their good performances throughout the campaign.

Cuban League Update

Myworld has been remiss in our reporting of the Cuban Nacional Series. They have already completed the first half of the season and are now in the round robin portion. With the many defections the power structure of the league has changed. Myworld was not able to get numbers on relievers because many of the websites we normally relied on for stats either have an innings limit for their pitchers or their stats are incomplete or only provide second half numbers. So we did the best with what we could piece together. Below are the standings of the league to date:

After a long recess Cuban Baseball’s 2017 regular season has finally arrived, with the Opening Day celebrated last Saturday.


The season officially began on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET when the Granma Horses starter César García delivered the first pitch to the Villa Clara Leopards. The Leopards started one of their aces, RHP Alaín Sánchez, but needed extra innings to beat the defending champions, 2-0. It was the first extra innings game in Opening Day since the 2012-13 (52 NS) season.
