MLB 2022 | Yuli is getting better, Soler homers again, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources.

Gurriel helped Astros beat Guardians 2-1. Yordan Álvarez and Aledmis Díaz went hitless.

Yuli Gurriel went 2-for-4 with a strikeout, even when in the third inning, with bases loaded, was retired on a fly-out. It was a much-needed performance from Gurriel, who hit .319 last season to win the AL batting title but has struggled this year. He entered in an 0-for-9 slide and is hitting .224 this year. Meanwhile, Yordan Álvarez and Aledmis Díaz combined 0-for-6 with three strikeouts - two Álvarez - and two walks - Álvarez again - for the night.

Marlins' Jorge Soler: Solo blast in loss. Soler went 1-for-4 with one homer, one RBI and one run scored in Wednesday's loss against the Rays. After striking out in his first plate appearance, Soler blasted a leadoff homer in the fourth to cut Tampa Bay's lead to 5-1. It was the slugger's seventh home run in May and his ninth of the season. Soler is currently slashing .207/.292/.725 with 22 RBI and 16 walks.

Rays' Yandy Díaz: Scores once in return. Díaz went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored Wednesday against the Marlins. Díaz missed the Rays' previous two games while dealing with a strained left shoulder. However, he returned to hit third in the lineup and worked a walk in his first plate appearance prior to scoring. He has maintained a .275/.396/.375 line across 144 plate appearances this season, tallying three homers, 10 RBI, and 19 runs scored.

Rangers' Adolis García: No hit on Wednesday.

Adolis García went 0-for-4 Wednesday night against the Angels in a 7-2 win for the Rangers. Adolis struck out once and is now batting .209 for the season.

Rays' Randy Arozarena: Drives in pair. Arozarena went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Marlins. Arozarena played a part in a five-run first inning for the Rays, delivering a two-RBI double and then coming around to score. He has at least one hit in nine of his last 10 games, during which he's also collected three home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored. After a slow start to the season, Arozarena has improved his line to .264/.313/.423 across 176 plate appearances.

José Abreu added his 10th double of the season.

José Abreu went 1-for-2 with two walks Wednesday night against the Rex Sox in a 3-1 win. It was Abreu's tenth double of the season, and the veteran first baseman is slashing .229/.320/.392 for the year with 5 HR and 19 RBI.

Rangers' Andy Ibáñez: Riding pine Wednesday. Ibáñez didn't start Wednesday against the Angels. Ibáñez has gone just 1-for-17 with a walk and four strikeouts over his last six games, and he took a seat for the third time in the last five matchups. Charlie Culberson started at the hot corner and batted eighth.

Yoán Moncada had another rough night at the plate in Wednesday's victory over the Red Sox, going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts.

Things haven't gone smoothly for Moncada since returning from the injured list, as he's hit a paltry .153/.194/.271 with two homers, four RBI and a 19/2 K/BB ratio over 62 plate appearances in his first 14 games. His bat should start to perk up eventually, provided that his recent right leg soreness isn't a bigger issue than he's letting on.

Nationals' Yadiel Hernández: Idle versus lefty. Hernández was out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. With lefty Julio Urias on the mound for Los Angeles, the lefty-hitting Hernández allowed Lane Thomas to play left field. Hernández saw action as a PH in the seventh facing RH Yency Almonte, but grounded to first baseman Freddie Freeman. Hernández went 0-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's 9-4 loss, but he's still sitting on a solid .806 OPS over 128 plate appearances this season.

White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Not in Wednesday's lineup. Grandal didn't start Wednesday against the Red Sox. Grandal got a chance to reset after he went 0-for-9 with five strikeouts over the last two games. Reese McGuire started behind the dish and batted eighth.
