Aroldis Chapman secured the save against the Cardinals on Thursday by pitching a flawless ninth inning.

Chapman closed out the game against the Cardinals on Thursday, conceding just one hit in a scoreless inning. He took the mound in the bottom of the ninth with a one-run lead and surrendered a leadoff single to Brendan Donovan. Despite this, Donovan was unable to advance further as Chapman efficiently retired the next three batters on only four pitches. Chapman has successfully converted his last four save opportunities, with this outing marking the second time in that stretch that he did not concede a run. This save was Chapman’s 10th of the season and the 331st of his MLB career, surpassing John Wetteland to claim the 16th spot on the all-time saves list. His next milestone will be surpassing Rollie Fingers, who currently holds the 15th spot with 341 saves, a feat Chapman will achieve after securing another eleven saves. While Chapman's 4.03 ERA and 1.41 WHIP this season raise concerns, his impressive rate of 14.3 strikeouts per nine innings remains noteworthy.

Yasmani Grandal hit 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run against the Cardinals on Thursday.

Yasmani Grandal went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI in the Pirates' 3-2 victory over the Cardinals. His notable performance included a key home run that contributed to the narrow win, in addition to earning a walk. This marked Grandal's eighth home run of the season. Despite facing challenges with a .220 batting average and modest power stats, Grandal's knack for delivering crucial home runs and maintaining a respectable walk rate (10%) brings value to the team. While his wOBA of .298 indicates some effectiveness, a low BABIP (.240) suggests possible bad luck or a decline in skill as the season progresses.

Andy Pagés records three RBIs.

Andy Pagés made an impressive comeback on Thursday against the Marlins, going 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs, and a walk. After a brief absence, he returned to the lineup and matched his season high with three RBIs. Despite being overshadowed by Shohei Ohtani's outstanding display, Pagés quietly achieved three RBIs for the third time this season. This game marked his first multi-hit performance since August 11 and his first three-RBI game since late April. Since being called back on September 1, Pagés has maintained a .286 batting average with two home runs in 28 plate appearances. If he continues this strong form, he might secure some starting opportunities in center field during the postseason.

Jorge Soler Leads Braves to Victory Over Reds.

In the Braves' dominant 15-3 win against the Reds, Jorge Soler had an impressive performance, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. He also scored three runs, drew a walk, and struck out. This game showcased Soler's power, as evident from his 20 home runs this season. Despite his average batting average of .240, his ability to bring in runs (61 RBI) and score (81 runs) makes him a key player for the Braves. With a .337 wOBA, Soler proves to be a valuable asset when making solid contact, although his high strikeout count (136 Ks) remains a point of concern.

Yandy Díaz returned to the lineup as the designated hitter batting third for the Rays on Thursday.

Having rested in the previous game, Yandy Díaz resumed his position in the lineup hitting third, while Dylan Carlson took on left field and led off against the Red Sox. Yandy achieved a 1-for-3 performance in the match.

Edgar Quero is back in action in Triple-A.

According to a report by James Fegan of SoxMachine.com, Edgar Quero returned to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday after a month-long absence. He had been placed on the 7-day injured list on Aug. 17 due to a back injury. Prior to the injury, there were expectations of his MLB debut in September, but with only nine games remaining in the 2024 season, those prospects seem unlikely for the White Sox.
