MLB 2024 | Randy Arozarena: swipes two bags; Soler clubs Grand Slam; Pagés with multi-hit game; Yordan remained out on Wednesday

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources

Randy Arozarena singled, doubled, walked, was hit by a pitch, scored a run and stole a pair of bases on Wednesday night, leading the Rays to a 3-2 victory over the Twins in 10 innings.

After striking out in his first at-bat on the night, Arozarena reached base in each of his final four plate appearances. He led off the fourth inning with a double, but the Rays couldn’t cash him in. He then singled and swiped second base with two outs in the sixth inning, but was left stranded there. He then led off the eighth inning with a walk but was stranded at third base. Arozarena was plunked leading off the 10th inning, he swiped second base and scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error by Royce Lewis. Arozarena extended his hitting streak to a modest five games with the performance. He's been very productive in that span, swatting two homers while also swiping two bags, scoring five runs and driving in five. Even with the encouraging stretch, Arozarena has only a .293 wOBA and .185 batting average on the season. Also with his two-hit attack, the 29-year-old outfielder is now hitting .185/.299/.345 to go along with 10 homers, 25 RBI and nine stolen bases on the season.

Another scoreless inning from Atlanta's Daysbel Hernández. Andy Ibáñez with two hits for Detroit.

As he pitched for the Braves, Daysbel continued to go scoreless. With two strikeouts, Daysbel completed a perfect eighth inning in a 7-0 win over Detroit. The Cuban reliever, who is trying to establish himself in the Majors with the competitive National League East team, has now pitched five scoreless innings in five games. He owns a 7/3 SO/BB ratio. In the same game Andy Ibáñez went 2-for-4 with a strikeout for Detroit. Ibáñez, who is playing first base for Detroit, is hitting .310/.333/.414 in June and overall in 2024 has a slash line of .282/.309/.398 with two homers and 16 RBIs in 41 games and 110 PA.

Jorge Soler walloped a grand slam on Wednesday in the Giants’ loss to the Cubs.

Soler went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs. With his team down 6-1 in the eighth inning, Soler took Tyson Miller deep to make things interesting, but the Giants couldn't tie it up late. The veteran slugger has found a groove in June, slashing .298/.403/.526 through 16 games this month with three of his nine homers and 10 of his 26 RBI on the season.

Andy Pagés with multi-hit game.

Pagés se apuntó otro multi-hit game en la derrota de los Dodgers 6-7 ante los Rockies. Pagés went 2-for-5 with a run scored despite striking out three times. Andy Pages has faced many hurdles since making his MLB debut on April 16 as he settles into life in the big leagues. While he has staked his claim for a starting outfield spot, the 23-year-old could be a real game changer if he is consistent at the plate in the second half. After hitting 31 home runs at High-A in 2021, and 26 home runs and 80 RBIs at Double-A in 2022, his raw power can't be matched by many of the other young players in the game today.

Yankees hit hard Orioles' relievers Cionel Pérez and Yennier Cano.

Against the Yankees on Wednesday, Cionel and Cano had some poor performances. Cionel, who despite his poor work scored his seventh hold of the year, gave away two walks to load the bases in the 6th inning. After dominating pinch-hitter Jahmai Jones with a fly ball to center field, he began accepting consecutive singles from Anthony Volpe and Juan Soto an inning later. The Orioles eventually replaced him, but both players scored when Yennier Cano came to pitch and accepted Giancarlo Stanton's three-run homer. Neither pitcher was in his usual form. During Cionel's 1/3 inning of work, he had two hits and two walks, raising his ERA to 4.87, while Cano - who got his 18th hold of the year - only allowed one unearned run - Stanton's HR - with a walk. In the outing, no one struck out a batter.

Luis Robert swipes second bag.

Robert went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base Wednesday against the Astros. Robert has popped five home runs in 14 games since returning from the injured list, but he's otherwise been a poor hitter at the moment. He has a 39.3 percent strikeout in that span and is hitting just .184. Positively, on Wednesday Robert did swipe his first base since returning and his second of the season.

A multi-hit game for Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

In Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Nationals, Gurriel went 2-for-4 with a strikeout. This was Gurriel Jr.'s seventh multi-hit game in June, a month where he owns a slash line of .317/.339/.500, with 8 runs, 3 HRs, and 11 RBIs. RBIs.

Yordan Alvarez (family matter) remained out of the Astros’ starting lineup on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old slugger missed Tuesday’s game due to a family matter and is still away from the club on Wednesday.

Edgar Quero is heating up.

White Sox catcher prospect Edgar Quero is heating up in a big way in June for Double-A Birmingham. He is coming off a five-hit, three-RBI game on Tuesday at Rickwood Field and is hitting .467 this month with four homers and 13 RBI. The White Sox' No. 4 prospect is one of the purest hitting catcher prospects in the game. The Cuban looks to be the catcher of the future for Chicago after coming over from the Angels in a July trade that sent Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo López to Los Angeles. Quero is hitting .284 with 11 homers and 49 RBI for Birmingham this season and looks like he could be a future star behind the plate.
