Yandy Díaz knocks 10th homer.


Yandy Díaz had a strong performance in Saturday's 6-1 victory over the Astros, going 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double, and scoring an additional run. Since returning from attending to a personal matter, Díaz has maintained a .310 average, hitting two home runs and driving in four RBIs over seven games. While he has consistently reached double-digit home runs in four of the last six seasons, he has yet to match the 22 homers he hit last year. In the current season, through 101 games in 2024, Díaz holds a .276/.331/.410 slash line with 10 home runs, 50 RBIs, 40 runs scored, 23 doubles, one triple, and no stolen bases.



 

Yennier Cano sealed a 7-4 victory over the Guardians on Saturday by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.


Yennier Cano effortlessly secured a three-run lead in the ninth inning, requiring only eight pitches to retire the side in order. This right-handed reliever has successfully closed out two of his last three games and has conceded just one run in his past ten appearances. While Cano's recent save opportunity might have been influenced by primary closer Craig Kimbrel pitching in two of the previous three games, Kimbrel's recent struggles, including blowing his last two save chances, suggest that Cano could see more ninth-inning opportunities going forward. Cano has accumulated five saves this season and may be considered part of a closing committee alongside Kimbrel, although he is not assuming the full closer role, at least for now.


 

 

Pedro León made his major-league debut Saturday.


Pedro León made his highly anticipated MLB debut on Saturday against the Rays, starting in right field and batting ninth. He managed to get his first MLB hit in the third inning, hitting a single to left field off right-hander Zack Littell. Despite attempting to stretch it into a double, he was tagged out at second base. León was brought up from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, replacing Joey Loperfido who was traded to the Blue Jays in exchange for Yusei Kikuchi. Prior to his call-up, León had an impressive season with Sugar Land, boasting a .297/.377/.519 slash line with 23 stolen bases, 21 doubles, 19 home runs, and 74 RBI in 93 games and 424 plate appearances.




 

 

Adolis García was back in the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Red Sox.


Adolis García returned to play in right field and hit fifth in the lineup following his absence in Friday's series opener. He recorded a 1-for-3 performance in the game, securing his 17th double of the season. Additionally, he drew a walk and struck out. Adolis was rested on Friday after starting in the previous 19 games. Over his last 15 games, the 31-year-old has posted a .193/.246/.281 slash line with two stolen bases, one home run, and nine RBIs in 57 at-bats.
