The lower part of the Cardinals' lineup made an impact on Monday night, with José Barrero contributing significantly from the very end of the St. Louis order. He hit a solo home run in the third inning, and a ground-rule double extended a 4-3 lead to a 6-3 advantage in the sixth inning. This home run was the 27-year-old's first in the major leagues since 2023, as he spent the previous year and the start of this season in the minors. Barrero has participated in six games with the Cardinals since his call-up on April 28 and has a 3-for-13 performance during this time. He could stay in the Majors if he manages to maintain some consistency with his batting, but with a MLB lifetime .187/.243/.264 slash line, not much is anticipated from the Havana native.

Andy Pagés regained his form with a 2-for-4 showing in Monday's 7-4 victory for the Dodgers over the Marlins. His two hits featured his first triple of the season and the second of his MLB career. Meanwhile, Luis Robert continues to struggle with his batting average, which remains below .200 (currently at .188), but he is on track to improve, hitting .294 in May.
The Astros have placed outfielder Yordan Álvarez on the 10-day injured list, effective retroactively from May 3, due to inflammation in his right hand.
This was not the result everyone anticipated after Monday when it was mentioned that Yordan was improving and no imaging was required. Yordan is now on the injured list after missing two games over the weekend due to a persistent issue with his right hand. Astros manager Joe Espada didn't appear overly worried over the weekend, so this development is somewhat unexpected. There's no update yet on how long he'll be out, but we don't expect it to be a lengthy absence. Additional clarity on his condition is expected this week after Yordan undergoes further evaluation and imaging to assess the issue's severity.
