Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hits a two-run homer on Wednesday.

In the Diamondbacks' 6-2 win against Miami on Wednesday, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a two-run home run and went 1-for-4. Gurriel concluded the team's scoring by hitting their fourth home run of the game, a 415-foot two-run shot to left field off Tyler Phillips in the eighth inning. This marked Gurriel's third home run of the season and his first since April 2 against the Yankees. Although he has faced challenges this year, Wednesday's impressive home run might help the veteran outfielder improve his performance.

Andy Pagés drives in three runs in victory.

Andy Pagés went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs in Wednesday's 8-7 win against Colorado. Pagés drove in two runs with a single in the first inning and added another RBI with a single in the fifth. The second-year outfielder needed a strong performance, as he entered Wednesday in a 1-for-12 slump over his past four games. Despite his low .175 batting average this season, the Dodgers have remained patient with him, providing him with a nearly everyday position in the lineup.

Daysbel Hernández did not allow any runs on Wednesday.

Daysbel Hernández delivered a flawless performance in the Braves' 3-1 defeat to the Blue Jays on Wednesday. He pitched 1 2/3 innings, marking six of his eight outings this year as scoreless and improving his ERA to 3.38. Last season, Daysbel achieved a 2.50 ERA with a 26:11 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 18 innings, securing three wins and one hold in 16 appearances. In 2025, he holds a 1-0 record and one hold for the Braves.

Randy Arozarena records two hits.

Randy Arozarena delivered an impressive performance for the Seattle Mariners in their 5-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday. He recorded 2 hits, one of which was a double, and drove in a run. Arozarena also earned 2 walks and stole a base. After experiencing a three-game stretch without a hit, he has now achieved hits in consecutive games, going 3-for-7. Despite this, his current season stats remain at a modest .194/.359/.419.

Adolis García recorded two hits on Wednesday.

In a 3-1 victory over the Angels, Adolis García achieved his third multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base. He has now recorded at least one hit in 6 of his last 8 games. However, it is concerning that after hitting two home runs in five games in March, he hasn't hit any in April and has only one RBI.

Johan Oviedo has started throwing again.

According to MLB.com, Johan Oviedo is currently throwing from a distance of 75 feet. After being sidelined this spring due to a lat injury, Oviedo recently had a follow-up appointment with doctors. Although the Pirates haven't made an official statement, the results seem favorable since he has started throwing again. Oviedo is not eligible to come off the injured list until late May, and it's uncertain if he will be prepared for game play by then.

Luis Robert Jr. did not get any hits.

In Wednesday's 3-1 defeat to the A's, Luis Robert Jr. had an 0-for-4 performance, though he did not strike out. Robert continues to face challenges early in the season, posting a dismal .116/.224/.186 slash line for April. Following a home run and a walk in his last two at-bats on April 12 against the Red Sox, he has now gone three consecutive games without a hit, recording 0-for-11 with 5 strikeouts and a walk.

José Iglesias recorded one hit on Wednesday.

José Iglesias had a 1-for-3 performance in the Padres' 4-2 victory over the Cubs on Wednesday. It was his fourth straight game with a hit. Iglesias is taking advantage of jane Croneworth's absence due to injury, making the most of his opportunity by going 8-for-25 over his last seven games, with 6 RBIs, two walks, and a stolen base.

Andy Ibáñez did not get any hits.

Andy Ibáñez went hitless in two at-bats on Wednesday during Detroit's 5-1 defeat to the Brewers. He also drew a walk and was substituted later in the game. Ibáñez is currently slashing .161/.257/.290 with one home run and seven RBIs in 2025. Over his career, he has a .253/.304/.393 slash line with 25 home runs and 114 RBIs across five seasons with Texas and Detroit.

Jorge Soler hitless against the Rangers.

Jorge Soler went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to Texas. he struckout twice. Soler is slashing .279/.352/.525 in 2025 and has 4 homers and 8 RBIs in 17 games.

Yandy Díaz increased his hitting streak to six games.

Yandy Díaz extended his hitting streak to six games by going 1-for-3 on Wednesday in a 1-0 defeat against the Red Sox. He also drew a walk and struck out. In April, Díaz is now slashing .268/.317/.464, following a .111/.105/.167 performance over four games in March. Over his last seven games, he has been outstanding for the Rays, hitting .321/.367/.571 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs.

Miguel Vargas's instability persists.

After a decent performance on Tuesday, where he went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Miguel Vargas had another game without a hit. On Wednesday, he went 0-for-5 with a strikeout in a 3-1 defeat against the A's. Vargas is now displaying a poor offensive line of .138/.194/.207 with 8 strikeouts and 3 RBIs over his last seven games. The Cuban third baseman's struggles persist, following a 2024 season where he posted a disappointing 46 wRC+.

Yennier Cano earned his third hold.

Yennier Cano earned his third hold of the season on Wednesday as the Orioles defeated the Guardians 9-1. He pitched the eighth inning, recording a walk and a strikeout. Out of 14 pitches, 8 were strikes. Although he had a save opportunity earlier this year that he did not convert, he has not allowed any runs over 7 1/3 innings, maintaining a 7:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Edgar Quero was called up for the White Sox.

The White Sox called up Quero from Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday. Quero, a leading prospect in the White Sox's farm system, has achieved a .333/.444/.412 slash line with one home run, four RBIs, and nine runs scored over 63 plate appearances in Triple-A this season. The 22-year-old catcher will now experience the major leagues with Chicago, where he might have the opportunity to play almost daily as a catcher and designated hitter. He is already in the staring lineup for today's game against the A's.

Yordan Álvarez sat out on Wednesday.

Yordan Álvarez was not included in the lineup for Wednesday's game in St. Louis. Although Álvarez hit a home run in Tuesday's win against the Cardinals, he rested for Wednesday's afternoon game.
