Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources.

Edgar Quero achieves his first night with three hits and three RBIs.

Edgar Quero had a stellar performance, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs on Tuesday night, leading the White Sox to victory over the Tigers. Quero hit a 383-foot solo home run off Tigers’ right-hander Codi Heuer in the seventh inning, increasing the White Sox's lead to 7-3. He further contributed with a two-run single in the eighth inning, making the score 9-3. Additionally, Quero singled and scored during the team’s five-run surge in the fifth inning. With this two-hit game, the 22-year-old catcher is now hitting .275/.342/.381 with four home runs and 29 RBIs in his first 272 plate appearances.

Néstor Cortés records six strikeouts in a no-decision. Adrián Morejón with scoreless inning.

Néstor Cortés gave up one run on six hits and a walk, striking out six over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Tuesday. Cortés was just one out away from qualifying for the win. He threw 79 pitches (54 strikes), only three more than in his San Diego debut last Wednesday, so it's likely the Padres will maintain some restrictions. Over his two starts with the Padres, he's allowed a total of three runs on nine hits and four walks over 9.1 innings. The left-hander is tentatively set for a rematch with the Giants early next week, which will take place in San Diego.

In the same game, Adrián Morejón delivered a flawless, scoreless inning for San Diego, recording one strikeout. He accomplished this with just 10 pitches, 8 of which were strikes. This marked his 58th appearance of the year, and he now holds a SO:BB ratio of 55:11 (including 2 intentional walks) in 2025.

Víctor Mederos did not receive a decision in the game against the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Víctor Mederos allowed three runs on three hits and three walks, striking out three over four innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Tuesday. Mederos surrendered all three runs in the first two innings before finding his rhythm. He threw only 43 of his 72 pitches for strikes, as he was pitching on short rest after appearing for Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. Mederos has a 5.63 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and a 7:7 K:BB ratio over eight innings in the majors this year. This was his first start in the big leagues, and it appears the Angels might give him more opportunities in the rotation. He is tentatively scheduled for a home start against the Reds next week if he gets another chance.

José Iglesias homered against the Giants on Tuesday.

José Iglesias went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 5-1 victory over the Giants. Iglesias regained the Padres' lead at 3-1 by hitting a deep shot off Robbie Ray in the second inning. This marked Iglesias' first home run of the year, achieved while he was serving as the designated hitter. He currently holds a .234/.305/.285 slash line with 27 RBIs, 23 runs scored, nine doubles, and four stolen bases over 265 plate appearances. Iglesias is experiencing career-low numbers in nearly every category and, as a part-time player in a strong offense, he won't have many opportunities to improve them.

Luis Robert Jr. recorded one hit.

On Tuesday, Luis Robert Jr. went 1-for-4 in a 9-6 victory over the Tigers. He also walked, recorded an RBI, and struck out once. Since the All-Star break, Luis Robert has transformed his performance, hitting .329/.398/.466 with 3 home runs and 12 RBIs, securing at least one hit in 16 of the 20 games he has played in during this period.

Andy Pagés continues his hitting streak, reaching seven consecutive games.

Andy Pagés recorded two hits in four at-bats, drove in one run, and drew a walk during Tuesday's 7-6 defeat against the Angels. Pagés has lengthened his hitting streak to seven games, during which he's achieved 10 hits in 27 at-bats (.370) with three RBIs and two stolen bases. Although Pagés had a slow start to the year, he has improved his stats to a .280/.323/.462 slash line, accumulating 19 home runs, 11 steals, 69 RBIs, 52 runs scored, 20 doubles, and a triple over 116 games this season. He has recorded hits in eight of his 11 games in August.

Miguel Vargas with two walks in return.

On Tuesday against the Tigers, Miguel Vargas had no hits in three at-bats but drew two walks and scored a run. After a brief period on the injured list, Vargas made his return on Tuesday. He batted sixth and played first base, scoring in the eighth inning thanks to an RBI single by Edgar Quero. Vargas is expected to be a consistent presence in the lineup going forward.

Yoán Moncada in a game with one hit.

Yoán Moncada recorded a hit in two at-bats, including a double, during the Angels' 7-6 victory over the Dodgers. He also contributed an RBI and struck out once. Over his last two games, Moncada has achieved 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs, though his playing time has been restricted due to increased competition in the infield. Despite maintaining a .294/.368/.353 slash line in August, he is enduring a disappointing season marred by injuries.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Adolis García had games without any hits.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (D-backs) and Adolis García (Rangers) both went hitless on Tuesday in the D-backs' 3-2 victory over the Rangers. Gurriel was 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout, while Adolis went 0-for-4 but managed an RBI. Gurriel is now in a stretch of 10 consecutive at-bats without a hit, dropping his slash line to .244/.292/.401 in the season. Meanwhile, Adolis recorded his 64th RBI of the year but continues to struggle offensively, with a line of just .185/.197/.338 over his last 15 games.

Yandy Díaz had one hit for the night.

Yandy Díaz recorded a hit in one of his three at-bats against the A's on Tuesday. This marked his 126th hit of the season for the 34-year-old, who could be on track for a new career high with just 48 games left in the season. Díaz is currently slashing .279/.369/.437, with 59 runs scored and 67 RBIs over 503 plate appearances.

Randy Arozarena achieved his 23rd stolen base.

Randy Arozarena went 1-for-4 and scored the Mariners' only run in their 1-0 victory over the Orioles on Tuesday. He started the game with a single, stole second base, and then scored on Josh Naylor's single. This was his 23rd steal in the majors this year, and his run was his 70th, topping all Cuban players in that category in 2025. Arozarena is currently on a five-game hitting streak.

Astros' manager Joe Espada mentioned on Tuesday that Yordan Álvarez is tentatively set to participate in live batting practice this weekend.

The 28-year-old power hitter has been out of action since early May because of a fracture in his right hand. Over the past two weeks, the Astros have mentioned that he's nearing the point of taking live batting practice, but each time, it seems to be delayed by a few days. Hopefully, he will soon overcome this obstacle and move closer to rejoining the Astros' lineup.
