Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources.

Yandy Díaz extended his hitting streak to 13 games.

Yandy Díaz went 2-for-5 with a striekout in Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Tigers. Yandy is in the midst of an 13-game hitting streak, leading all MLB, and has reached base safely in each of his last 17 games. He has a scorching .464 batting average (26-for-56) with 11 runs scored, four home runs, 10 RBIs, and a .768 slugging during his current hitting streak.

Randy Arozarena drove in three runs.

Randy Arozarena contributed three RBIs, hit a double, scored a run, and struck out in Sunday's 14-6 victory over the Cubs. Arozarena recorded his 19th double of the season, reached base twice, and scored once. Recently, he's been successful both with the bat and in maintaining plate discipline, achieving 18 hits in 55 at-bats (.327) along with nine walks, nine extra-base hits, three hit-by-pitches, and five steals over his last 15 games. Although his strikeout rate remains somewhat high at 27.6 percent, the outfielder is making an impact when he gets on base. He has accumulated 14 steals, eight home runs, 31 RBIs, 34 runs scored, and a .758 OPS over 74 games.

José Iglesias drives in three runs including a walk-off fielder's choice.

The 35-year-old infielder stepped in as a pinch-hitter for Jake Cronenworth in the seventh inning and hit a two-out, two-run single off Lucas Erceg, tying the game at 2-2. In the top of the ninth inning, he maintained the tie by delivering a perfect relay throw to the plate, cutting down Drew Waters and ending the inning. Iglesias then secured the win by driving in Luis Arraez with a walk-off fielder’s choice to the shortstop, with no chance for the Royals to get Arraez, who was running on contact from third base. This season, he is slashing .232/.297/.268 with no home runs, 19 RBIs, and two stolen bases in 160 plate appearances for the Padres.

Miguel Vargas had two hits in four at-bats, including a double, and drove in two runs in Sunday's victory over the Blue Jays.

In the eighth inning, Miguel Vargas hit a 73 mph bloop double that brought in two runs, breaking a 2-2 tie and putting Chicago in the lead. Vargas now has 34 RBIs for the season. Even though he's slowed down in terms of power since his impressive run in mid-May, he consistently makes solid contact and remains a key player in the middle of the White Sox lineup.

Adolis García went hitless.

Adolis García finished 0-for-2, drawing two walks, scoring twice, and striking out once during the Rangers' 8-3 defeat against the Pirates. After a rough start to the season, Adolis has significantly improved over the last 15 games, achieving a .304/.375/.518 line with 2 home runs, 10 RBIs, nine runs scored, and two stolen bases. His totals for the year now stand at 9 home runs and 37 RBIs.

Andy Pagés with one hit Sunday.

Andy Pagés went 1-for-4 with a strikeout on Sunday, playing in right field. On Saturday, Pagés hit his 16th home run of the year, but he didn't have any RBIs in Sunday's 13-7 victory over the Nationals. In his last 15 games, he has hit 4 home runs and collected 13 RBIs. He now has a total of 16 home runs and 52 RBIs this season, leading all Cuban players in both categories and ranking 17th-Tied and 13th-Tied, respectively, in MLB.

Yariel Rodríguez delivers another inning without allowing a run.

Yariel Rodríguez delivered a scoreless seven-inning performance in the Blue Jays' 4-2 defeat to the White Sox. In just 10 pitches, 8 of them strikes, he completed a perfect inning with two strikeouts. This marked his sixth scoreless performance in seven June games. Yariel's efforts reduced his ERA to 2.61 for the season, while he holds a 36:12 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 31 games and 38 innings.

The Reds have called up RHP Yosver Zulueta from Triple-A Louisville.

Before Sunday's game against the Cardinals, the Reds brought Yosver Zulueta back from Triple-A Louisville. To make room for a new bullpen arm, Cincinnati sent Chase Petty to Triple-A. Zulueta had a five-day stint with the major league team in May. Since being sent to Louisville, he has recorded a 5.06 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and a 19:12 K:BB ratio over 16 innings in 13 appearances.

Luis Robert Jr. went hitless.

Luis Robert Jr. went 0-for-4 with an RBI and two strikeouts on Sunday in a 4-2 victory over the Blue Jays. Robert continues to strike out at an alarming rate of 31.4 percent and has a .256 wOBA, placing him in the bottom 5% in all of MLB. It's surprising that he hasn't been sent to the Minors to refine his mechanics, unless the team is hesitant to engage with him, expecting the July 31 trade deadline.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was not included in Sunday's lineup.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was absent from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. After starting 18 games in a row, Gurriel, who has a .599 OPS over his last six games, was benched for the series finale in Colorado on Sunday.

José Barrero getting some playing time.

In Sunday's game against the Reds, José Barrero was the starting center fielder and batted ninth. Barrero made his eighth start of the season, stepping in for the resting Victor Scott. Given Scott's .498 OPS over 80 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers this season, Barrero might secure a role in a short-side platoon in center field. In Sunday's game he went 0-for-2 with a walk. In a very limited role Barrero is slashing .138/.194/.276 with a homer and three RBIs.

The Orioles have sent RHP Yennier Cano to Triple-A Norfolk.

This decision comes as a surprise. Cano has been a key part of Baltimore's high-leverage situations for the past three seasons, but the club seems to be sending a message by moving him to the minors. The 31-year-old right-hander delivered two scoreless outings after a four-run collapse earlier this week against the Rays. An All-Star in 2023, Cano's performance declined statistically in 2024 and has continued to deteriorate in 2025. Although he remains tied for second on the team with 11 holds, Cano has mostly been pitching in middle relief since early June, with unimpressive stats (4.73 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) over 30 games. Having pitched on Friday and Saturday, Cano was unlikely to be available for another day or two, prompting the Orioles to send him to Triple-A and bring in a fresh arm with right-hander Yaramil Hiraldo.

Johan Oviedo progresses to simulated games.

According to Alex Stumpf of MLB.com, Johan Oviedo has advanced to pitching simulated games. Oviedo is currently at the Pirates' spring training facility for the next phase of his recovery. Although he still requires an extensive rehab assignment before coming back, he is anticipated to rejoin the major league rotation sometime after the All-Star break.

Yoán Moncada is frustrated by the slow progress.

Yoán Moncada mentioned on Saturday that he continues to experience pain in his right knee and is frustrated by the slow recovery from his injury, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. Moncada was placed on the IL on June 2 due to inflammation in his right knee and has been sidelined for three weeks now. Although the veteran infielder said on Saturday that he is "feeling better," he admitted that the knee pain persists. Moncada noted that he has consulted several doctors who have assured him that the pain will eventually diminish, but he expressed frustration that the issue remains unresolved. Because of the ongoing pain, Moncada has been unable to swing right-handed or engage in any defensive drills, indicating he is not close to returning to game action.
