PanAm-U23 ‘2023 | Cuba beat Costa Rica 13-0 in World Cup qualifier debut

The Cuban U-23 baseball team made its debut in the Pan American U-23 baseball tournament - qualifier for the 2024 World Cup - with a 13-0 win over Costa Rica at the new Roberto Clemente stadium from Masaya, Nicaragua. as part of Group B of the tournament, which runs until 30th of this month. Box score Dorvis Navarro of Cuba won after four solid innings in which he allowed only one hit while striking out four and walking two. Cuban pitching ended with a perfect fifth inning that included a strikeout from Reynaldo Alvarez. In the meantime, Escobar hit a home run, Carlos Monier had two RBIs and one run scored, Adrián Pérez also had a 3-for-3 game, and Andrys Pérez also went 3-for-3 with a run, leading the Cuban attack against the starter Donovan Holmes and three relievers. The game ended after five innings by the use of the Mercy Rule, after Cuba was leading for more than 10-runs. In Group B, where complex rivals like Curacao, Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Colombia are waiting, it was a match of pure formality. The Cubans will face Curacao in the second game of the tournament this Sunday starting at 3:05 pm, local time.
