Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 27, 2022 José Iglesias went 4-for-4 with a run scored Wednesday in Philadelphia. All four base hits were singles. It's actually Iglesias' second four-hit game of the season, and both of them have come away from Coors Field. He's batting .444 on the road and .200 at home thus far. Vladimir Gutiérrez walked six and gave up six runs over four-plus innings in Wednesday's loss to the Padres. Gutiérrez was facing the Pads for the second start in a row and he again struggled to throw strikes. It's actually been a theme for him all season, as he now sports a hideous 11/15 K/BB ratio over 17 innings. With Luis Castillo (shoulder) beginning a rehab assignment soon, Gutiérrez might have to kick it in gear in order to avoid losing his rotation spot. Yordan Álvarez got on base four times Wednesday night against the Rangers. Yordan Álvarez went 2-for-2 with a run and two walks on Wednesday night against the Rangers. Álvarez also reached three times yesterday, so he's raised his OBP nearly 100 points in 48 hours. He's hitting .234/.333/.532 in 54 plate appearances. The Cuban outfielder is also improving his defense in left field. On Wednesday night the Rangers tried to run on him but Yordan burned the runner - Jonah Heim - at the plate with an accurate throw. Giants claimed LHP Darién Núñez off of waivers from the Dodgers. He'll be optioned to Triple-A Sacramento. The 29-year-old southpaw will miss the entire 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but the Giants see an opportunity here to let him do his rehab and recovery with them and hopefully re-sign him afterwards. Given all of the success that they have had over the last few years with these types of signings, it makes plenty of sense. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (hamstring) is back in the Blue Jays' lineup Wednesday versus the Red Sox. Gurriel was held out of the starting lineup on Tuesday night due to some mild hamstring soreness. The 28-year-old will cover left field and bat fifth Wednesday against right-hander Michael Wacha. Yasmani Grandal is at DH on Wednesday due to leg soreness. Grandal experienced a bit of leg discomfort after stroking a double on Tuesday night, but it's clearly a relatively minor issue. Reese McGuire will start behind the plate for the White Sox on Wednesday against the Royals. Yoan Moncada (oblique) will report to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday to begin a minor league rehab assignment. Moncada started the season on the injured list after suffering a right oblique strain near the very end of White Sox camp, but he's made steady progress and figures to be activated sometime late next week. His return should provide a boost for an offense that is going to be without Eloy Jimenez (hamstring) until probably June. Luis Robert (groin) remains out of the White Sox starting lineup on Wednesday. Robert hasn't appeared in a game since he tweaked his groin last Thursday. He's said to be feeling much better but will grab at least one more day of rest and treatment. Andrew Vaughn, Adam Engel, and Gavin Sheets are covering the outfield for Chicago on Wednesday afternoon versus the Royals.

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 26, 2022 Yordan Álvarez went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored Tuesday as the Astros defeated the Rangers. On a night where he hit a 109.6 single and a 103.5 mph double, it's a shame that he was unable to drive anyone in. Nonetheless, he was driven in himself by a Jeremy Pena single in the top of the second. The 24-year-old slugger's .200 batting average through 45-at bats isn't an accurate representation of his skill set. If he can remain healthy, he should have a highly productive campaign. Adolis Garcia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Astros. With one man out and nobody on in the bottom of the second, Garcia connected on an 86 mph splitter from Jake Odorizzi and sent it 385 feet to left field, tying the game up at 1-1. The 29-year-old slugger has plenty of pop in his bat, but his subpar plate approach will continue to hold him back. Aroldis Chapman preserved Yankees' 12-8 win over the Orioles on Tuesday night. Aroldis Chapman struck out two over a ninth inning Tuesday against the Orioles. Chapman had some command issues walking two but securing the 12-8 win at Yankee stadium. The veteran closer hasn't allowed a run over 7 1/3 innings this season with 11 strikeouts and four saves. Raisel Iglesias earned his fourth save of the season after striking out a pair of batters in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Guardians. Iglesias should have had the night off -- the Angels led 4-0 to open the ninth inning -- but after Jimmy Herget let in a run on Jose Ramirez's one-out RBI double, the closer was called in from the pen to make sure no further drama was injected into the proceedings. He proceeded to strike out Franmil Reyes and Owen Miller to polish off the two-out save. Iglesias is now 4-for-4 in save chances while boasting a 1.17 ERA and 10/0 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was out of the Blue Jays' lineup on Tuesday due to hamstring soreness. It's considered to be a minor issue and Gurriel was be available off the bench. He homered and doubled for a second straight game in Monday night's series opener against the visiting Red Sox. Yoán Moncada (oblique) could begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend at Triple-A Charlotte. Moncada has still been dealing with some issues on his left side while hitting, but is apparently close to embarking on a minor league rehab assignment. Barring any setbacks, it sounds like he could be back for the White Sox at some point early next month. Luis Robert (groin) is expected to return to the White Sox' lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Royals. With the start time for Wednesday's contest moved up due to freezing temperatures in Chicago, the White Sox have decided to push back Robert's return an additional day to avoid him playing in back-to-back games in less than 24 hours. Fantasy managers should expect him to be back out there in center field on Wednesday afternoon.
- MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News
Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 26, 2022 Mets recalled RHP Yoan López from Triple-A Syracuse. López served as the Mets' 29th man last week for a doubleheader against the Giants, but didn't end up making an appearance in the twin-bill. He's been brought back to provide New York with a fresh bullpen arm moving forward. Dodgers released LHP Darien Núñez. Núñez was designated for assignment last weekend and has been officially cut loose by the Dodgers. The 29-year-old left-hander, who is scheduled to undergo Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery, made six relief appearances last year at the major-league level. He's expected to miss the remainder of the 2022 campaign and be sidelined for a portion of the 2023 season as well. Raisel Iglesias fired a scoreless ninth with a strikeout to get a save on Monday against the Guardians. This was an easy one for Iglesias. He only had to throw seven pitches -- six of them for strikes -- to procure his third save of the year while lowing his ERA 1.29. It's still amazing to think how little the Angels had to give up to get a hurler of his talent last winter, as Iglesias is clearly one of the best stoppers in the sport right now. Adolis García drove in three runs on Monday in a 6-2 win over the Astros. García, 29, drove in all three runs in the eighth with a double that cleared the bases. The 29-year-old was hitting second on Monday, and the two-hit game may see him back in that spot going forward. There were flashes of brilliance for García in his rookie campaign, but he's a very risky fantasy option going forward. Yordan Álvarez blasted a solo homer in a loss to the Rangers on Monday. Álvarez gave the Astros a 1-0 lead with a solo homer off Dane Dunning. It's the fourth of the year for the slugger, and it's worth pointing out that he's played just 11 games because of his stint on the IL. Álvarez is still hitting just .176, but the hits should start falling soon. He's way too good a hitter for them not to come in bunches in the coming weeks, if not days. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. homered and doubled in a second straight game Monday against the Red Sox. Gurriel hit his first homer and doubled Sunday in the loss to the Astros. He's up to .297/.329/.469 with 10 RBI in 17 games this season. Apr 25, 2022 Rusney Castillo has signed with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League. Castillo inked a minor league contract with the Nationals earlier this year, but was released before appearing in a game at Triple-A Rochester. The 34-year-old outfielder, who signed a massive seven-year, $72.5 million contract with the Red Sox back in 2014, spent the 2021 campaign with the Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball. He last appeared in the majors back in 2016. Apr 24, 2022 Lourdes Gurriel Jr. collected his first homer and doubled Sunday against the Astros. Everything worked out for Gurriel today. In the eighth, he made an ugly sliding stab at Michael Brantley's liner to left and then had to run back to the wall to track it down. Fortunately, he unleashed a terrific throw from there, nailing Brantley as he tried to take third. The nice game put Gurriel at .283/.318/.400 for the season. Yadiel Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI on Sunday in the Nationals' loss to the Giants. Hernandez put the Nationals on the scoreboard with an RBI single to center field in the opening frame before taking Giants' ace Logan Webb deep for a two-run shot in the third inning. It was his first round-tripper of the season. The 34-year-old outfielder doesn't possess a ton of relevance for fantasy managers, but he's off to a hot start, slashing .333/.361/.485 across 36 plate appearances. Yandy Díaz slugged a solo homer Sunday, leading the Rays to a 5-2 victory over the Red Sox. Díaz plated a key insurance run for the Rays in the seventh inning with a solo shot to right-center field -- his first round-tripper of the season -- off Red Sox' lefty reliever Jake Diekman. The 30-year-old corner infielder has always possessed plenty of raw power, but hasn't put the ball in the air consistently enough to hit for a ton of over-the-fence power. He's off to a nice start at the dish this season, hitting .286/.412/.405 with seven runs scored, one homer and three RBI in 51 plate appearances.
- MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News
Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 24, 2022 Rays activated INF Yandy Diaz from the COVID-19 injured list. Diaz has recovered and is cleared to return to the Rays after missing Saturday's contest with an illness. The 30-year-old infielder has hit .275/.383/.325 across 47 plate appearances. Jeffery Springs was placed on the COVID-IL in the corresponding move. Apr 23, 2022 Jose Abreu went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI Saturday as the White Sox fell to the Twins. Down by eight runs in the top of the sixth, Abreu connected on a high fastball from Cody Stashak and sent it right-center field -- the White Sox's first run of the game. He also collected an RBI on a ground out in the top of the eighth. The veteran slugger is slashing .208/.283/.396 with two home runs over his first 48 at-bats of the year. Darién Núñez (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery. Núñez started in Triple-A as relief help for the Dodgers to begin the season. Sadly, he will miss the rest of the year because of the procedure. The southpaw split his time between Triple-A and the major leagues last season with a 39 percent strikeout mark in his 52 innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City last year. White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Saturday that Yoan Moncada is still "feeling something" while swinging left-handed. Moncada has been sidelined since the late stages of spring training due to a right oblique strain and its an ominous sign that he's still experiencing discomfort a few weeks later. There isn't a timetable for his return at the moment and it sounds like he's still pretty far away from returning to the White Sox' lineup. Soler helps Marlins offense after getting WS ring. The 30-year-old would like to recreate some championship memories with his new club in Miami, which beat Atlanta, 9-7, on Saturday night at Truist Park. Soler has gotten off to a slow start, but he is 4-for-12 with two walks over his last three games. He collected a pair of hits on Friday, then added a then-go-ahead RBI single on Saturday. Soler had hoped the familiar surroundings would jumpstart his season. Néstor Cortés yielded two runs over 6 1/3 innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Guardians. Cortés retired 13 consecutive batters to open the contest before issuing a walk to Amed Rosario and coughing up a two-run homer to ensuing batter Josh Naylor in the fifth inning. He finished with eight strikeouts and only issued two walks. The 27-year-old lefty holds a microscopic 1.15 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and 25/3 K/BB ratio across 15 2/3 innings (three starts). He's in line for a tasty road matchup on Friday against the Royals. Adolis García is hitting seventh on Saturday against the Athletics. García has been dropped to the lower third of the Rangers' order Saturday afternoon after getting off to a glacial start at the dish this season, hitting .184/.281/.347 with two homers and two steals in 57 plate appearances. Luis Robert (groin) remains out of the White Sox' starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Twins. Robert is expected to miss the remainder of the White Sox current series against the Twins due to a minor groin strain. However, manager Tony La Russa has expressed optimism that he could be back for Tuesday's series opener against the Royals. It'll be Adam Engel taking his spot in center field on Saturday afternoon. Rays placed INF Yandy Diaz on the COVID-19 injured list. Diaz is symptomatic, and will be out of the lineup for at least five days while he recovers. Top prospect Vidal Bruján has been recalled in his place. Apr 22, 2022 Yuli Gurriel drove two on Friday. Gurriel went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Blue Jays. His bases-loaded dribbler the other way beat the shift with two outs in the third inning, giving the Astros a 3-0 lead they couldn't hold. Gurriel came into Friday's game with zero RBI on the season, and even after the multi-hit effort he's still slashing only .184/.205/.289 through 10 games. Jorge Soler went 2-for-3 with two singles Friday as the Marlins fell to the Braves. It was hard for any of the Marlins' batters to get anything going against Kyle Wright on Friday night, but Soler still managed to hit two singles off of him -- one in the top of the first and one in the top of the sixth. The slugging outfielder is off to a slow start (.184/.286/.286 over 49 at-bats), but he still has plenty of time to turn things around. Andy Ibáñez walloped a solo homer Friday in the Rangers' win over the Athletics. Ibáñez padded the Rangers' early lead with a solo shot left field off Athletics' starter Adam Oller in the second inning. It was his first long ball of the season. Aroldis Chapman earned his fourth save by throwing a scoreless ninth against the Guardians on Friday. Chapman's velocity was mosttly back tonight after being well down Wednesday; he topped out at 102 mph with his five fastballs. Still, he mostly threw sliders and splitters tonight. He gave up a double to Josh Naylor, but he struck out two in the save. White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Friday that Luis Robert (groin) is likely to miss the entire weekend series against the Twins. The silver lining though, is that the club was optimistic after reviewing his MRI results and believe that he'll be able to return to the lineup on Tuesday after Monday's off-day. While it's disappointing for fantasy managers to lose him for three additional games, it's a huge win if he's able to avoid the injured list. The superstar outfielder is slashing .205/.222/.386 with two homers, three RBI and a league-leading five stolen bases through his first 11 games. Apr 20, 2022 Yasmani Grandal went 0-for-3 with a sac fly Thursday in the loss to the Guardians. Grandal put four balls into play today, none of them hit harder than 78 mph. For the season, he's collected just one extra-base hit and walked only twice in 39 plate appearances. He's swinging more and making worse contact, which doesn't seem like the best of signs for a 33-year-old catcher. Still, it's only 10 games. White Sox manager Tony La Russa told reporters after Thursday's game against the Guardians that Luis Robert left the contest with a groin injury. Robert tweaked the groin while attempting to run out a grounder in the eighth inning. The White Sox will assuredly have their star outfielder undergo testing, and there should be a better idea of his status before Friday's series opener against the Twins. LaRussa also mentioned that an injured list stint is very possible, but seemed confident it wasn't a long-term injury. This would be a massive blow for both the White Sox and fantasy managers if Robert has to miss significant time. Royals recalled RHP Ronald Bolanos from Triple-A Omaha. Bolanos will jump into the Royals' bullpen for Thursday's series finale against the Twins. The 25-year-old right-hander posted a 1.42 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings for Kansas City last season.
- MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News
Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 19, 2022 Aroldis Chapman tossed a spotless frame to notch a save Tuesday in Detroit. On to protect a two-run lead, Chapman needed only nine pitches to set the Tigers down in order, picking up a strikeout along the way. Chapman still hasn't been charged with a run this season, but with his velocity still down significantly and his occasionally fleeting control, he's skating on thin ice. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 0-for-4 in a 2-1 loss to Boston on Tuesday. Gurriel Jr. struckout twice in the game and left four runners on bases, while his BA went down to .275 for the year. The Cuban outfielder is trying to beat his numbers from last year, when he was capable of adding 138 Hits, 21 HR and 84 RBI, the highest of his MLB career. Yuli Gurriel recorded his 170th career double in a 7-2 loss to the Angels. Yuli Gurriel went 1-for-3 with a walk on Tuesday night against the Angels, adding his fourth double of the year and #170 of his MLB career. The 2021 AL batting champion is still struggling with his bat, showing a slash line of .161/.188/.290 for the year. Yordan Álvarez had a different night. Monday night was great for the Cuban slugger who had two homers and 4 RBI against the Angels, but on Tuesday night Álvarez went hitless in a 7-2 loss to the Angels. Yordan went 0-for-3 with a walk and left two runners stranded, while batting cleanup and DHing in the Astros lineup. José Iglesias had one hit in a 6-5 win against the Phillies. Iglesias went 1-for-4 and one struck-out against the Phillies, leaving his BA to .286 for the year. The Cuban shortstop, playing for his sixth MLB team, is a .277 BA career player and is searching for his 1000 MLB career hit this season, sitting now at 931. Arozarena went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI on Tuesday against the Cubs. Arozarena broke open the game in Tampa Bay's favor in the seventh inning, doubling in Taylor Walls. He was then driven in on a single by Harold Ramirez, accounting for the majority of his production. Arozarena has now collected five hits in his last 16 at-bats, including three doubles to go along with three runs scored and two RBI. Adolis Garcia went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in a 6-2 loss to Seattle on Tuesday. Garcia reached on an infield single and subsequently stole second in the top of the first inning, though that would be the entirety of his damage. It's been a disappointing April after the 29-year-old experienced a breakout rookie campaign, but Garcia has registered a homer and stolen base in consecutive games and looks to build on that momentum. Yoan Lopez will serve as the 29th man for the Mets in the second half of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Giants. He'll presumably head right back to Triple-A Syracuse once the game concludes. Lopez, claimed off waivers from the Marlins in late March, holds a 4.25 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 101 2/3 career MLB innings. Jorge Soler got the day off Tuesday against the Cardinals. Soler has started nine consecutive games as the Marlins' leadoff hitter this season. The 30-year-old slugger has just one round-tripper in 42 plate appearances so far. Jesús Sánchez was bumped up to the top spot in the lineup in his place. Yadiel Hernández sat for the evening portion of Tuesday's twin bill against the Diamondbacks. Early in the season, it looked as though Hernández would start in left field against most righties while Lane Thomas handled the lefties. Hernández has now sat against three straight righties, however, including both halves of Saturday's doubleheader, so it's possible he's slipping into a bench role. Thomas remained the starter for the nightcap.
- MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News
Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 19, 2022 Nationals' Yadiel Hernández: Sitting first game of doubleheader Hernández is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports. Hernández will take a seat for the third consecutive contest as the Nationals take on left-hander Madison Bumgarner in first game of Tuesday's doubleheader. Lane Thomas will start in left field and bat sixth. Apr 18, 2022 Yordan Álvarez homered twice and drove in four runs while going 3-for-5 to help the Astros to an 8-3 win Monday over the Angels. Well that's one way to return to a lineup. Álvarez was activated off the COVID-19 injured list, and immediately showed why he's one of the best power-hitters in the sport. He homered in the first with a runner on in the seventh, and the 24-year-old hit another two-run shot against Archie Bradley in the seventh. Álvarez also scored three times, so fantasy managers have to be thrilled with the production after he missed five games last week. As long as he's healthy, Álvarez is going to produce. Randy Arozarena went 0-for-4 in a loss to the Cubs. Randy Arozarena went 0-for-4 against the Cubs on Monday, leaving 4 runners on base. The Cuban outfielder is hitting .214 for the season with 10 strikeouts. Arozarena had an assist in the game, throwing out rookie Seiya Suzuki who was trying to stretch his hit to a double in the fourth inning. Yuli Gurriel had a hitless night in Houston's 8-3 win against the Angels. Gurriel had another terrible night going 0-for-4 with a strikeout against the Angels, and now his BA is reduced to .143 for the season. It's the second worst start of a season for Gurriel, who in 2017 was hitting just .125 (3-for-24) after the first seven games of the season. Heredia went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Monday in a loss to the Dodgers. Los Angeles starter Clayton Kershaw cruised through four innings before Heredia got to him for a solo homer in the sixth. The long ball was Heredia's third hit and first home run this season. The 31-year-old hasn't hit more than six homers in any MLB campaign, so there's no reason to expect this to be part of a power surge. Aledmis Diaz will return to the bench for Monday's game against the Angels, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Diaz enjoyed a run of five consecutive starts from April 8 through 13, but his playing time has tailed off following Yuli Gurriel's recent return from paternity leave. He'll be on the bench Monday for the third time in four games, and at-bats are likely to become even harder to come by for Diaz with Yordan Alvarez (illness) making his return to the lineup after a five-game stint on the COVID-19 injured list. Yandy Diaz was added to the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs after Wander Franco was scratched with quad tightness, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Diaz was scheduled to hit the bench after starting five straight games, but he'll instead remain in the lineup. He'll bat fifth and play third base, with Taylor Walls moving from third to shortstop.
- MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News
Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 17, 2022 Nestor Cortés recorded 12 strikeouts over five shutout innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Orioles. Cortes fired an immaculate fourth inning and needed just 88 pitches (66 strikes) to navigate five flawless frames. He scattered three hits and only issued one walk while generating 15 swinging strikes and finishing with a sublime 39 percent CSW (called strikes plus whiffs). The 27-year-old left-hander has reeled off nine consecutive scoreless innings with a 17/1 K/BB ratio to open the season. He'll square off against the Guardians on Saturday in New York and should be rostered in all fantasy formats. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 2-for-3 with an RBI on Sunday, lifting the Blue Jays to a 4-3 win over the Athletics. Gurriel put the Blue Jays on the board with an RBI sacrifice fly in the opening frame and went on to notch a pair of hits in the low-scoring affair. The 28-year-old burgeoning slugger is hitting .306/.350/.389 with seven runs scored and five RBI across 40 plate appearances this season. José Iglesias went 1-for-3 with a walk Sunday in his return to the Rockies' starting lineup. Iglesias missed a pair of games due to a right hamstring issue. It sounds like a relatively minor concern moving forward and the 32-year-old defensive wizard should be good to go as the Rockies' everyday shortstop. Randy Arozarena went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles against the White Sox on Sunday. Arozarena is still looking for his first homer (and first steal and first walk), but this makes four doubles. He still has just two RBI and two runs scored through nine games. Adolis Garcia went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's loss to the Angels. Down by three runs in the bottom of the third, Garcia hit a 400-foot blast to left-center field off of Jose Suarez, bringing the Rangers within one run of the Angels. The slugging outfielder should continue to hit baseballs over the wall and swipe bags, but his batting average and on-base percentage will likely leave much to be desired. White Sox OF prospect Yoelquis Céspedes went 2-for-5 with two homers on Sunday for Double-A Birmingham. Céspedes picked up his first two homers of the season in the contest. The younger brother of Yoenis Céspedes, Yoelqui isn’t the same kind of talent as his older brother, but there’s a lot to like thanks to above-average power potential with a speed grade that isn’t far behind. He also has a strong arm like big bro, although not quite the cannon Yoenis had. Céspedes can be a regular, and because of the pop/wheels, he has a chance to be a fantasy helper. He could help Chicago before this season comes to an end. Yordan Álvarez said Sunday that he expects to return to the Astros lineup on Monday. Welcome news for fantasy managers. The 24-year-old slugger has been out for a week battling a stomach bug. He expects to be activated from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of Monday's contest against the Angels. Apr 16, 2022 José Abreu slugs first homer. Abreu went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Saturday against the Rays. Abreu took Corey Kluber yard in the fourth inning to record his first homer of the season. It was his only knock of the game, and he entered Saturday having collected zero in hist last 12 at-bats while striking out six times in that span. Though he's hitting only .200/.273/.367 through 33 PA, Abreu has scored seven runs and collected four RBI. Luis Robert racking up steals. Robert went 0-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base Saturday against the Rays. Robert has failed to collect a hit in each of his last three starts, spanning 12 AB. However, he reached base Saturday after a throwing error, and proceeded to steal second base before coming around to score. Robert now has five stolen bases and six runs scored across 29 PA this season.
- MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News
Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 15, 2022 Cionel Pérez dealt with Anthony Rizzo with ease. Cionel Pérez, the lefty Cuban reliever that found new home in the rebuilding environment of Baltimore, came on relief on Friday night against Anthony Rizzo in the top of the 10th inning, and dealt with the situation with ease. Pérez ended up stranding a runner on second and using only three pitches to struck out Rizzo, who was seen defenseless against Cionel' slider. Cionel is showing with the Orioles what he is capable off, after a tremendous Spring Training where he pitched six scoreless innings with three hits allowed and a 7:2 K/BB ratio. Gurriel Jr. had first multi-hits game of the season. Gurriel Jr. had his first multi-hits game of the season on Friday night against the A's. Gurriel went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI on Toronto's 4-1 victory against the A's. The Cuban outfielder lifted his batting average to .241 for the year, and will face RHP Paul Blackburn - 4 RBIs vs. Blackburn - on Saturday afternoon at Rogers Centre in Toronto. Yandy Díaz went 1-for-4 and Randy Arozarena was hitless Friday against the White Sox. Ji-Man Choi and Yandy Diaz doubled in runs off reliever Aaron Bummer in Tampa Bay’s third straight loss. The Rays have dropped four of five after starting the season 3-0. Díaz went 1-for-4 with his first RBI of the year. Meanwhile, Randy Arozarena went 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts against Chicago. Arozarena is hitting just .167 for the year. Yuli Gurriel looked better in Houston 11-1 defeat against the Mariners. Yuli Gurriel had his third double of the season and overall went 2-for-4 on Saturday night againt the Mariners, in a crushing 11-1 defeat. The 2021 AL batting champion scored Houston's only run of the game in the top of the seventh, and saw his batting average rise to .250 for the year. Adolis García and Andy Ibáñez saw action against the Angels. While Adolis García went hitless - 0-for-4 - in Texas' 9-6 defeat against the Angels on Friday night, Andy Ibáñez played third base and went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Ibáñez is now hitting .231 for the season and has been able to put hits in five of the seven games he has played this year. Yadiel Hernández had another single on Friday night. Yadiel Hernández recorded his fifth consecutive game with a hit, after going 1-for-3 with a run on Friday night as the Nationals beat the Pirates 7-2. Hernández was also walked in the game and now the Cuban outfielder is hitting .400 (8-20) with 3 RBIs for the season. Hernández is in a hitting streak of five games and will face RHP Bryse Wilson - 1-for-3 against him - on Saturday night at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Robert, Abreu, and Grandal had a hitless night. The Cuban trio had a night to forget, going 0-for-11 with two strikeouts and leaving four men on bases. While Roberts already have 2 homers, 3 RBIs, and is hitting .250 after the first week of the season, Abreu - a traditional slow start player - and Grandal are still trying to find their swings. Raisel Iglesias gave up one hit and fanned two in a scoreless bottom of the ninth on Friday. After allowing a leadoff single to Corey Seager to begin the bottom of the ninth, he struck out two batters in a row and got Nathaniel Lowe to fly out to left field to end the game. The 32-year-old veteran is one of the safest closing options in fantasy. Vladimir Gutierrez allowed three runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over four innings in a loss against the Dodgers on Friday. After a clean first inning, Gutierrez allowed a double and a walk to start the second. Chris Taylor would bring the first run in for the Dodgers with a two-out base hit. Trea Turner would triple to drive in a run in the third. Gavin Lux led off the fifth with a triple before Gutierrez loaded the bases with a hit batter and a walk. Jeff Hoffman would take over on the mound and allowed an inherited runner to score. The 26-year-old right-hander will get a matchup against the Cardinals in Cincinnati his next time out. Aroldis Chapman walked the second batter he faced in the 11th inning to score the winning run in the Yankees' 2-1 loss to the Orioles on Friday. Chapman inherited a bases-loaded situation with one out in the 11th. He came out throwing oddly soft for him -- his fastball was merely in the mid-90s -- but that could have been a combination of him needing to throw strikes and him having worked the previous night. He struck out Cedric Mullins anyway, but he then walked Ramon Urias to end the game, with Urias getting the benefit of the doubt on a couple of close pitches. We're not particularly concerned about Chapman at the moment, but that will change if his velocity fails to bounce back next time out. He probably won't be used Saturday, which could result in a save chance for Chad Green or Jonathan Loaisiga. Astros placed DH/OF Yordan Alvarez on the COVID-19 injured list. Alvarez was set to miss his third straight game on Friday due to illness, so the team decided to place him on the injured list for health and safety protocols, giving them the ability to add Joe Perez to the roster. Once Alvarez is feeling better, he'll be able to be activated immediately and return to the Astros lineup.
- MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News
Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 14, 2022 José Iglesias collected another single and shines defensively. Shortstop José Iglesias is off to a good start this year, and on Thursday night he went 1-for-4 against Chicago Cubs at Coors Field, raising his batting average to .333. Iglesias also made a great defensive play in the third inning, reaching a ground-ball near second base and completing the play with a spinning throw to first base to get Frank Schwindel out, and keeping Jonathan Villar at second. Iglesias slash line during the first week of the season is .333/.400/.389 Abreu went hitless against Seattle. José Abreu went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on Thursday afternoon as a DH, in a 5-1 loss to Seattle. Abreu batting average descended to .227 for the year. Aroldis Chapman walked all three batters he faced after coming into a save opp against the Blue Jays on Thursday. Fortunately, Michael King bailed him out in a 3-0 game, allowing none of the inherited runners to score. Chapman threw just four strikes among his 16 pitches tonight. He had looked strong up to this point -- he entered the game with a 5/0 K/BB ratio and no hits allowed in three innings -- but he's good for a few scares per year at this stage of his career. Luis Robert, first hitless game of the year. After hitting safely in each of the White Sox's first five games of the season, including back-to-back contests with a solo home run, Luis Robert went hitless on Thursday afternoon against Seattle. Robert went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, and now the Cuban outfielder is slashing .292/.320/.583 through the first week of the season. Yadiel Hernandez went 3-for-4 and knocked in two runs versus the Pirates on Thursday. Hernandez, who had a solid .273/.329/.413 line last year, is 7-for-17 in the early going. He probably would have been an adequate DH had the Nationals not signed Nelson Cruz for that role. Playing Hernandez in left does weaken the Nationals' outfield defense, so he shouldn't be a full-timer out there. It'd be easier to start him with the rangier Victor Robles in center than with Lane Thomas there, but it's Robles that the team needs to be replacing. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. made a fielding error in Toronto's 3-0 loss in New York. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is having a terrible 2022 season start. On Thursday night at Yankee Stadium, the Cuban outfielder made a fielding error that allowed New York to score the first run of the fourth game of the series against Toronto. The run proved to be decisive. Gurriel, batting cleanup, went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts and a HBP. His batting average ascended to .192 from .174 the night before. Yasmani Grandal got the day off Thursday. Reese McGuire started at catcher and hit seventh versus the Mariners and right-hander Logan Gilbert. Jose Abreu was at DH and Gavin Sheets covered first base in the afternoon tilt at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Reese McGuire will start at catcher and hit seventh versus the Mariners and right-hander Logan Gilbert. Jose Abreu is at DH and Gavin Sheets will cover first base in the afternoon tilt at Guaranteed Rate Field. Apr 13, 2022 Luis Robert homered for the second consecutive game on Wednesday, helping to power the White Sox to a 6-4 victory over the Mariners. Robert went back-to-back with teammate Tim Anderson off of reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray in the seventh inning -- extending the White Sox lead to 6-3. It was his only hit in four at-bats on a cold and rainy night in Chicago. The 24-year-old rising superstar is off to a sizzling start, slashing .350/.381/.700 with two homers, three RBI and four stolen bases through five games. Aledmis Díaz and Yuli Gurriel hitless on Wednesday. Aledmis Díaz and Yuli Gurriel went 0-for-4 each in Houston's 3-2 defeat against Arizona in 10 innings on Wednesday afternoon. Gurriel struck-out once and Díaz twice, both having a difficult start of the 2022 season showing low batting averages of .167 and .150, respectively. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-3 scoring go ahead run in the seventh. Gurriel Jr. had a nice night at the plate scoring an important run in the seventh inning when the game was tied at 3-3. Gurriel went 1-for-3, walking one time against the New York Yankees on Toronto 6-4 win on Wednesday night. The young outfielder is having a low start of the season showing only four hits and 3 RBIs in 6 games and 24 AB for a poor .174 AVG. Yandy Díaz had a great day. The A's beat the Rays 4-2 on Wednesday night, and Yandy Díaz - batting fifth - had his best game of the new season. Díaz went 3-for-4 with a run, improving his batting average to .267. Later in the game he was replaced by PH Taylor Walls, and will lead off on Thursday final game of the series. Yordan Alvarez (illness) remains out of the Astros' starting lineup on Wednesday. Alvarez caught a stomach bug that has been traveling around the Astros' clubhouse. A few coaches are also currently affected. Michael Brantley will DH and hit second Wednesday afternoon against the Diamondbacks and right-handed starter Merrill Kelly. Aledmys Diaz, Chas McCormick, and Kyle Tucker are in the outfield. Apr 12, 2022 Guillermo Heredia scored three times Heredia went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, three runs and an RBI in Tuesday's win 16-4 over the Nationals. Heredia made most of his first start of the season, but he's unlikely to see a major uptick in opportunities as a result. he filled in in right field for Eddie Rosario due to the Nationals bringing lefty Patrick Corbin to the hill.
- Luis Robert continues crushing the baseball
Four plate appearances, seven pitches, one hit: but you just can't stop it. That's how it is. Luis Robert went 1-for-4 on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners, and any of us might remember that he hit just .250. However, being in this age of analytics and sabermetrics, it is important to get here: Robert, once again, seemed unstoppable. So the bottom line in a 4-1 game often seems too simple if you don't remember this: Robert didn't miss a swing. His hands furiously went after all seven pitches the Mariners threw at him on Wednesday night, and he hammered the ball every time. His last ball put into play was an 111.6-mph blast that wound up traveling 405-ft at Guaranteed Rate Field. Sometimes it happens, and you just can't stop it. This was one of those nights, and the final lunge Robert provided was enough for the White Sox bullpen to take over the final lead, 6-4.

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 12, 2022 Andy Ibanez went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Tuesday's loss to the Rockies. With men on first and second and two out in the bottom of the second, Ibanez connected on a 95 mph sinker from Chad Kuhl and sent it to left field, scoring Mitch Garver and putting the Rangers on the board, 1-0. The 29-year-old is an above-average contact hitter and he's seen time at third base, first base, and designated hitter to start the season. Given how shallow third base is in fantasy land, he could be worth a look in the right situation. Lourdes Gurriel went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts versus the Yankees on Tuesday. The Blue Jays were shut out by the Yankees in this one, picking up only five hits along the way. Gurriel is off to a rough 3-for-20 start this season, with his one extra-base, hit coming back on Opening Day. Luis Robert homered, walked, stole two bases and scored a second run Tuesday as the White Sox edged the Mariners 3-2. Robert's homer off Matt Brash was his first of the year, a 408-foot to right-center. He's off to a nice 6-for-16 start at the plate, and he's already swiped four bases in four tries. On Tuesday, Luis Roberto also made a great running catch on Jesse Winker's long fly ball to center field in the third inning, saving two runs. Yordan Alvarez was away from the Astros on Tuesday because of an illness. Astros manager Dusty Baker told reporters that a number of coaches are absent too because of a stomach bug that has been making its way around the clubhouse. Aledmys Diaz will serve as the Astros' designated hitter and bat sixth on Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks and lefty starter Madison Bumgarner. Astros activated 1B Yuli Gurriel from the paternity leave list. Gurriel will start at first base and bat cleanup in his return to action Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks and left-hander Madison Bumgarner. Joe Perez was already optioned out to make room.
