Adolis García's hit streak ends at 23.

Adolis García struck out during a Texas rally that fell short in the ninth inning, ending his 23-game hitting streak as the Detroit Tigers held off the Rangers 9-8 Sunday. García's streak was the longest in the American League this season. He went 0 for 3 with two walks and fell one game short of matching the longest hitting string ever by a Cuban-born big leaguer, set by Rafael Palmeiro in 1994 for Baltimore. It was the fifth-longest streak in Rangers history.

''In the ninth inning, I wasn't thinking about the streak,'' García said. ''I was thinking about winning the game. I wanted to get something on the barrel,''. ''They tried to use the streak against me. They knew I wanted to hit, and they didn't throw me anything easy,'' he said.

Rays' Randy Arozarena: Doubles three times. Arozarena went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two runs scored and two RBI in Sunday's 12-4 win against Boston. Arozarena hit an RBI double in both the sixth and eighth innings Sunday. The 27-year-old improved his season slash line to .263/.333/.449 with 50 extra-base hits and 69 RBI through 513 plate appearances. In 24 games this month, Arozarena has gone 27-for-88 (.307) with 13 extra-base hits and 22 RBI.

Yasmani Grandal (knee) went 3-for-7 with a two-run homer and four RBI on Sunday in a pair of minor league rehab contests for Triple-A Charlotte.

Grandal plated a run with an RBI ground out in the sixth inning before also adding an RBI double in the eighth inning in the opening contest of Sunday's doubleheader. The 33-year-old veteran catcher proceeded to launch a two-run homer in the second contest of the twin bill. He certainly looks ready to rejoin the White Sox' lineup this week.

Luis Robert (wrist) remained out of the White Sox' starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

The positive news here is that Robert, who made an appearance as a pinch-runner in the ninth inning during Sunday's game, is expected to rejoin the White Sox' lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the Royals. The 25-year-old outfielder has sat out three consecutive games due to a lingering left wrist issue. Hopefully the extra time off will enable him to put the issue to bed.

Astros' Yulieski Gurriel: Two RBI.

Yulieski Gurriel went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI Sunday afternoon in a 3-1 victory against the Orioles. With a scoreless score in the seventh, Alex Bregman walked to start the inning, Kyle Tucker greeted reliever Bryan Baker with a double, and after one out, Gurriel hit a two-run single through the right side to give the Astros a decisive 2-0 lead. Gurriel is only slashing .244/.293/.371 this year but he has 8 RBI in his last 15 games.

Astros manager Dusty Baker said Sunday that Yordan Álvarez was out of the lineup after receiving treatment on his left hand.

Álvarez is dealing with left hand soreness and is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reported. Though it was a right hand injury that resulted in the 25-year-old landing on the injured list ahead of the All-Star break, Álvarez's other hand is now presenting complications. According to McTaggart, manager Dusty Baker expects Álvarez to rejoin the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers following Monday's off day, but it's unclear if the All-Star slugger will be able to quickly recapture the form he displayed in the first half. Since the start of August, Álvarez has produced only four extra-base hits and is batting just .234.

Yankees' Nestor Cortés: Optimistic about quick return. Cortés (groin) was running sprints shortly after he was placed on the 15-day IL on Thursday, and he's optimistic that his absence will be brief, Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media reported. It seems strange that Cortés was able to sprint so soon after being diagnosed with a Grade 2 groin strain, but it bodes well for his chances of being activated when first eligible. The lefty starter indicated optimism about that scenario, stating, "The way I feel (Thursday), I'm hoping another 15 days will be exactly what I need." Cortés has already exceeded his career high as a professional with 131 innings this season, so the time off could help prevent him from wearing down in the postseason.

White Sox's Yoán Moncada: Placed on injured list. Moncada was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Saturday, retroactive to Aug. 26. Moncada exited Thursday's matchup against the Orioles due to a hamstring issue, and the injury will ultimately sideline him for at least a week and a half. It's not yet clear when the White Sox expect him to return, but Josh Harrison and Romy Gonzalez are strong candidates to see increased playing time at third base, particularly after Leury Garcia (back) was reinstated from the injured list Saturday.

Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Hits injured list with infection. Chapman was placed on the injured list Saturday with an infection in his leg, Jack Curry of YES Network reported. The issue reportedly stemmed from a tattoo Chapman received. Chapman hasn't pitched in over a week and allowed three runs while walking four batters in his last two appearances, though it's unclear exactly when the problem started bothering him. The back of the Yankees' bullpen is quite beat up at the moment, with Clay Holmes (back) and Scott Effross (shoulder) also out, though Holmes should return Monday and now seemingly has a clearer path to reclaiming closer duties. Lou Trivino or Jonathan Loáisiga could be candidates to record a save over the weekend.
