Néstor Cortés (1-1) secured the win after pitching six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and two walks on Thursday against the Reds. He struck out six batters. After being hit hard for eight runs in his first start of the season against the Yankees, Cortés made a strong comeback in his second start, not allowing a baserunner in four of his six innings. Apart from a José Trevino double in the third inning, Cincinnati posed minimal threat on Thursday. Cortés will carry some momentum into his next outing, but a scheduled game in Colorado in the middle of next week presents a challenging scenario for the left-hander.

Yordan Álvarez begins campaign with a slow start.

Yordan went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the Astros' 5-2 victory over the Twins on Thursday. The Astros' offense has been sluggish at the start of this season, with Yordan being a major factor. He hasn't managed a hit in five of the seven games he's started, going just 3-for-24 overall with no home runs and 4 RBIs. On a positive note, the team has a day off on Friday, giving Yordan an opportunity to improve over the weekend.

The 31-year-old outfielder saw a decline in slugging (.435, 61st in MLB) and was ranked 114th with 42 extra-base hits in 2024. However, if he remains healthy in 2025, it could be a promising year for him.
