Rangers lead 2-1

On Monday night at Chase Field, the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 in Game 3 of the World Series.

With the win, the Rangers now lead the best-of-seven series 2-1 as they seek to win it all for the first time in franchise history.

During the game, Texas starter Max Scherzer suffered an injury. Despite Scherzer's early departure due to back spasms, the bullpen held the lead thanks to Corey Seager's two-run home run in the third inning.

As well, Texas slugger Adolis García appeared to hurt his side on a swing in the eighth inning. After that, he also left the game. As the team's leading hitter at the moment, Garcia's injury is cause for concern. Whether he will play in tomorrow's Game 4 is unknown.

Ketel Marte extended his record hit streak to 19 games with a line-drive single in the sixth inning for Arizona.

As a result of the win, the Rangers are now 9-0 on the road this postseason. Nine road wins are the most ever by a team in a postseason.

A team that wins Game 3 in a best-of-seven MLB postseason series after being tied 1-1 in the series wins 69% of the time. No matter how those first games turn out, teams up 2-1 in MLB postseason series win 70.3% of the time.

Game 4 is Tuesday night.

Adolis García was removed from Game 3 of the World Series against the Diamondbacks in the eighth inning due to tightness in his left side.

The 30-year-old sustained the injury on a swing during his last at-bat in the eighth inning. Fortunately, it doesn’t sound initially like it should sideline him for long, though his availability for Game 4 will likely depend on how he wakes up feeling on Tuesday. Travis Jankowski replaced him in right field for the bottom of the eighth. Any sort of missed time though would obviously be a major blow to the Rangers’ offense. He went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.

Aroldis Chapman made World Series debut.

In Game 3 of the 2023 World Series, Aroldis Chapman made his World Series debut in the eighth inning. Chapman allowed two hits and the only Arizona run. In the inning, shortstop Corey Seager initiated an excellent double play that saved Chapman once again. Chapman also struck out one and was credited with his fifth postseason hold. After being a part of the historic Cubs team that broke the curse of the Billy Goat in 2016, this was Chapman's second World Series appearance as well as the sixth overall game.

The streak of Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is broken.

It wasn't Gurriel Jr.'s best night on Monday, when the D-backs lost to the Rangers 3-1. Gurriel was 0-for-3 with a strikeout, ending his seven-game hitting streak. Gurriel, however, continues to play solid baseball, posting a slash line of .254/.279/.407 in 59 at-bats this postseason.
