Despite issuing one walk, Chapman delivered a scoreless inning, securing his ninth save of the season. Although the trainer visited him on the field, he continued pitching without any issues. Chapman has been performing exceptionally well, allowing just one earned run over his last eight innings. Following this performance, Chapman boasts a 1.88 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and a 32/9 K/BB ratio this season. Remarkably, the 37-year-old shows no signs of slowing down. Lourdes Gurriel Jr.'s double and RBI propel Diamondbacks to victory over Nationals on Sunday. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. put the Diamondbacks ahead initially with an RBI double against Mitchell Parker in the first inning. He later scored on a two-run homer by Eugenio Suárez. With a 3.09 ERA and a WHIP of 1.03 over 23 1/3 innings, he has delivered consistent performances throughout the season. The veteran outfielder has gone 0-for-10 with seven strikeouts in the past three games after sitting out a couple days due to knee soreness. For Sunday manager Will Venable has elected to move Robert down the lineup given his season-long struggles at the plate, but that did not help either. The 27-year-old leads the league with 21 stolen bases but has otherwise struggled offensively with a .180/.270/.291 slash line, five homers, 20 RBIs and 24 runs in 54 games. Yandy Díaz went hitless on Sunday. Following an impressive showing on Saturday, Yandy Díaz went 0-for-4 against the Astros on Sunday, resulting in a 1-0 defeat for the Rays. The 33-year-old has shown inconsistent performance at the plate, batting .234 with 14 RBIs and 11 strikeouts over his last 15 games for the Rays. After Sunday's loss, Yandy has a .237 batting average with 34 RBIs and eight home runs over 55 games this season. The Royals sent OF Dairon Blanco to Triple-A Omaha. The team required a position for top prospect Jac Caglianone, leading them to assign Blanco to the minors. This decision is somewhat unusual, as Blanco is an excellent fourth outfielder and exceptional baserunner, but the Royals appear to think that their current MLB roster doesn't require those skills. On Sunday, Miguel Vargas and Edgar Quero did not achieve any hits. In Sunday's 3-2 defeat against the Orioles, Miguel Vargas and Edgar Quero collectively went 0-for-8. Quero struck out twice. Vargas is currently experiencing a hitless streak, having gone nine consecutive at-bats without a hit over the past three games. Adolis García was absent from the lineup for the third straight game on Sunday against the Cardinals. Adolis García had the entire weekend off, marking his third consecutive game sitting out, as the Rangers aim to give him a mental break from the field. Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News also reported that manager Bruce Bochy has not indicated that García will be removed from his regular spot in right field. The Rangers are optimistic that this break will allow the two-time All-Star to make adjustments at the plate and return to peak performance. Over his past 15 games, Adolis has posted a terrible .173/.218/.346 slash line and has a strikeout rate of 34.5 percent. Jorge Soler went hitless on Sunday. The Angels were defeated 4-2 by the Guardians, with Jorge Soler failing to get a hit. Soler went 0-for-4 with a strikeout while playing as the designated hitter and batting cleanup for the Angels. Soler is struggling offensively, posting a slash line of .185/.241/.296, with one home run and three RBIs in his last seven games. Yoán Moncada was not included in Sunday's lineup. According to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, Yoán Moncada was not included in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians. After missing a game due to knee soreness, Moncada returned on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run. However, he was back on the bench on Sunday. There is no indication that the veteran third baseman's injury has deteriorated, so this may have just been a rest day.

Andy Pagés went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two walks on Saturday in the 18-2 win against the Yankees. Before the seventh inning, Pagés was the only Los Angeles starting position player who hadn't scored, but he changed that with a solo home run to center field off Luke Weaver. The second-year outfielder concluded May with seven RBIs in his last five games, hitting .350 (7-for-20) during that stretch. Over the month, Pagés batted .259 with four home runs, 25 RBIs, 12 runs, and three stolen bases in 26 games. Yariel Rodríguez scoreless streak extended. On Saturday, Yariel delivered a strong performance in a high leverage situation, pitching 1 1/3 flawless innings with two strikeouts, securing his seventh hold of the season in the Blue Jays' 8-7 victory over the A's. Currently, Yariel is one of the top-performing middle relievers in the majors, boasting a 1.40 ERA over his last 15 games, with 19 1/3 innings pitched and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 20:3. Yoán Moncada hits a home run in his comeback. Yoán Moncada had a 2-for-4 performance, hitting a solo home run and scoring another run in Saturday's 7-5 defeat against the Guardians. Moncada rejoined the Angels' lineup on Saturday after sitting out Friday's game due to soreness in his right knee. Moncada concludes the month of May with a .253/.329/.573 slash line, recording six home runs and 15 RBIs over 85 plate appearances. Daysbel Hernández was perfect on Saturday. Daysbel Hernández returned to form in the Braves' 5-0 victory over Boston on Saturday. In his previous two outings, Daysbel had been erratic, allowing four walks and two runs in the Braves' losses. However, this Saturday, he delivered a perfect performance in the win. Daysbel entered the game after starter Spencer Schwellenbach pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings and continued the trend by securing two outs, both via strikeouts. He used only 8 pitches in his performance, with 6 of them being strikes. This is the level of play the Braves expect from Daysbel, who now has a 2.25 ERA over 24 games. Randy Arozarena hitless on Saturday. Randy Arozarena went hitless again on Saturday during the Mariners' 5-4 victory over the Twins. Arozarena was 0-for-5 with one strikeout, which brought his slash line down to .219/.346/.388 for the year. He has had a tough May, going 22-for-95 (.232) with an OPS of .698. He is looking to reset in June to enhance his season, where he currently has 7 homers, 23 RBIs, and a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen bases. Miguel Vargas, Luis Robert Jr., and Edgar Quero did not get any hits on Saturday. Miguel Vargas, Luis Robert Jr., and Edgar Quero collectively went 0-for-9 in the White Sox's 4-2 defeat against the Orioles. Quero came in as a pinch hitter and drew a walk. Yennier Cano secures hold No. 10. Yennier Cano achieved his 10th hold of the year during the Orioles' 4-2 win over the White Sox. However, Cano faced difficulties once more, giving up two hits—Vinny Capra's double and Mike Tauchman's single—resulting in one run in just 1/3 of an inning. With a 0-4 record and a 4.74 ERA over 19 innings, Cano is aiming to avoid the same outcome as his former pitching partner Cionel Pérez. Jorge Soler went hitless on Saturday. During Saturday's 7-5 defeat against the Guardians, Jorge Soler had a 0-for-4 performance, including one strikeout. This outing reduced his season slash line to .226/.298/.400, with 8 home runs and 23 RBIs. Dairon Blanco did not get any hits in the game against the Tigers on Saturday. Dairon Blanco started on Saturday against the Tigers, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout against the impressive Tarik Skubal. He was subsequently replaced by Kyle Isbel. Blanco spent much of the season sidelined with right Achilles tendinopathy but was activated from the IL on May 16. Since then, he has appeared in just five games, recording one hit in five at-bats, with one RBI and one stolen base. Currently, the speedster is in a reserve role, but there's potential for him to climb the depth chart in a Royals outfield that lacks talent. José Iglesias hitless on Saturday. José Iglesias went 0-for-1 in the Padres' 5-0 defeat against the Pirates on Saturday. Iglesias did not start the game but came in as a pinch hitter. After a productive April where he posted a .286/.342/.343 slash line with 75 at-bats over 22 games, his playing time has decreased in May to just 13 games with 35 at-bats, as he serves in a limited role with the team. Unless he improves his performance when given opportunities, his situation with the Padres is unlikely to change. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was absent from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Nationals. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. took a break on Saturday against Michael Soroka and the Washington pitching team. Gurriel went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday's game, pushing his hitting streak to seven games, with five of those being multi-hit performances. The Orioles have outrighted LHP Cionel Pérez to Triple-A Norfolk. Cionel Pérez went unclaimed on waivers after being taken off Baltimore’s 40-man roster last weekend. The 29-year-old left-hander struggled with an elevated 8.31 ERA over 21 2/3 innings (19 appearances) this season. Considering his history, he should be able to find a spot elsewhere if he chooses free agency. However, he may need to accept a minor league contract. If he stays with the Orioles organization and reports to Triple-A, he'll aim to regain his control and perform well enough to earn a return to the majors. Uncertain timeline for Adolis García's return. Adolis García received additional time off to mentally reset after batting .208 with seven home runs and five stolen bases over the first 56 games of the season. The 32-year-old power hitter is expected to return to right field later this weekend, but Rangers manager Bruce Bochy might consider giving him the entire series off to take a break from the game. Bochy mentioned following Saturday's 2-0 defeat by the Cardinals that the Rangers have devised a strategy for Adolis's rest, intending to provide the 32-year-old slugger with as many days off as necessary to regain his form, according to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. The situation is crucial for Adolis and closely resembles what the Astros faced with José Abreu last year. We hope Adolis's journey concludes differently than Abreu's did. Yordan Álvarez has a minor fracture in his right hand. According to Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest, Yordan Álvarez underwent imaging after Friday's batting practice, which revealed a fracture that is 60 percent healed. As a result, he will refrain from hitting until the fracture is completely healed. Despite the batting practice going well, Yordan experienced some discomfort, prompting the examination. Morales noted that the fracture was previously undetected due to inflammation in Yordan's hand. Although he seemed close to returning from the injured list, the veteran slugger is now expected to be out for at least a few more weeks. Astros general manager Dana Brown told reporters on Saturday that the 27-year-old star has been temporarily halted from swinging, but he is expected to return in the "near future." This development is concerning but explains why Yordan's recovery seemed to stall recently, as he continued to feel discomfort while swinging a bat. There is currently no specific timeline for his return. The Marlins have sent OF Víctor Mesa Jr. to Triple-A Jacksonville. Víctor Mesa Jr. returns to the minors after a brief stint with the Marlins, where he went 1-for-7 with an RBI in four games. The 23-year-old prospect is expected to have a longer opportunity in the major leagues eventually, but currently, there isn't a place for him with regulars Kyle Stowers and Dane Myers in good health.

  • MLB 2025 | Pagés reaches 35 RBIs; Soler and Arozarena homered; Chapman delivers another scoreless inning; Yariel' streak of scoreless innings persists; Yordan wasn't activated on Friday

Andy Pagés drove in three runs as the Dodgers triumphed over the Yankees 8-5 on Friday night. Pagés contributed with two hits and scored a run. After starting 0-for-2, he tied the game in the sixth inning with a single to left field. Then, in the seventh, he singled to center field with runners on third and second, pushing the score to 8-5. Pagés has been a reliable part of the Dodgers' lineup, boasting a .275 batting average with 9 home runs and 35 RBIs over 53 games. His 35 RBIs are the highest for any Cuban player in the Majors at present, a surprising achievement at the season' start. Over his last 31 games, he has improved his performance with 29 RBIs. His recent performance against the Yankees contributes to a strong stretch over his last five games, where he has maintained a .297 average with six RBIs. Notably, he excels in home games, batting .289 with five home runs and 20 RBIs, showing his comfort at Dodger Stadium. Luis Robert Jr. hitless on his return. In his return to the lineup on Friday against the Orioles, Luis Robert Jr. went 0-for-3 with a walk. He struck out three times after missing two games due to knee soreness. The 27-year-old has been aggressively running the bases but hasn't contributed significantly in other areas. Robert has a poor .207/.258/.293 slash line with one home run over 24 games in May, although he's added value with nine steals. He is likely to see significant benefits from being traded to a strong contender in the coming weeks before the trade deadline on July 31, rather than remaining stuck in the White Sox's ongoing rebuilding phase. Lourdes Gurriel, Jr. has another multi-hit game. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. recorded 2 hits and an RBI on Friday, even though the D-backs fell to the Nationals 9-7. Gurriel made a significant contribution to the Arizona Diamondbacks' efforts against the Washington Nationals with 2 hits, an RBI, a run scored, and a walk. His recent performance against the Nationals highlights his steady presence at the plate. Over his last 30 games, he boasts a .319 average with an OPS of .889, indicating a strong mid-season form. His performance on May 31 adds to his consistent streak, batting .345 over the past 15 games. He ranks second in RBIs among all Cuban players in the Majors with 32. Aroldis Chapman pitched another inning without allowing any runs. Aroldis Chapman delivered a scoreless ninth inning during Boston's 5-1 win against Atlanta. He entered the game to finish it in a non-save situation, requiring just 14 pitches, with nine being strikes. Chapman struck out two batters efficiently. Since his first blown save on May 27, he has resumed his duties, pitching two scoreless innings and recording three strikeouts in his last two appearances. He maintains an impressive season with a 1.96 ERA over 23 innings, a 31:8 strikeout-to-walk ratio, and eight saves in 25 games. Yandy Díaz did not get a hit on Friday. In a 2-1 defeat against the Astros, Yandy Díaz didn't manage to get a hit. He went 0-for-4 with one strikeout. Although he hit a home run the previous day, he's clearly having trouble maintaining his performance right now. We all hope this is just a temporary setback for the reliable hitter, who boasts a solid .284 career batting average in the Majors. Yariel Rodríguez's streak continues. Yariel Rodríguez made his return on Friday in Toronto's 11-7 win over the A's. He pitched a scoreless seventh inning, allowing one walk and recording no strikeouts, which extended his streak of scoreless innings to 14. Throughout this period, he has achieved a 14:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. This May, Yariel has finally demonstrated his true worth since Toronto signed him to a five-year, $32 million contract, despite not having the opportunity to regain his role as a starter in Toronto's rotation. He currently holds a 2.86 ERA over 28 1/3 innings, with 26 strikeouts in 23 games. Miguel Vargas and Edgar Quero, one hit each. Miguel Vargas and Edgar Quero each had a hit in the White Sox's 2-1 defeat against the Orioles. Vargas went 1-for-4 with a strikeout, and Quero went 1-for-3 with a strikeout. Both Vargas and Quero have been standout stories for Cuban baseball players in 2025. Vargas adapted his hitting style to secure a starting position, turning around a season that seemed headed for the Minors. Meanwhile, at 22, Quero looks set to be a future talented catcher, and he has demonstrated his potential throughout this season. Vargas has a slash line of .245/.321/.440 with 8 home runs and 26 RBIs this year, while Quero, in his rookie season, is slashing .257/.341/.312 with 10 RBIs. Randy Arozarena hits a home run on Friday. Randy Arozarena went 2-for-4, hitting a solo home run in Friday's 12-6 extra-inning defeat against the Twins. Before this game, Arozarena was in an 0-for-14 slump. He ended it early by hitting a home run in the first inning, his first since May 18. During the 10 games between home runs, he struggled, hitting .128 (5-for-39) with 17 strikeouts. Currently, the outfielder has a .224/.353/.398 slash line with seven homers, 23 RBI, 24 runs scored, and nine stolen bases over 54 games. His 29.4 percent strikeout rate is the highest of his career, limiting his potential until he improves his contact consistency. Jorge Soler hits his eighth home run. Jorge Soler had a strong performance on Friday evening, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, leading the Angels to a 4-1 win over the Guardians. Soler started the second inning with a walk and scored the first run of the game on Jo Adell's RBI single. The 33-year-old hitter contributed a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning, extending the Halos’ lead to 3-0. He sealed the victory with a 393-foot solo home run (105.4 mph exit velocity) off Andrew Walters in the eighth inning. Soler's run production has significantly increased over the past week, bringing his season total to 23 RBI, with seven of those in his last eight games. This season, Soler is hitting .230/.304/.408 with eight home runs and 23 RBI. Adolis García was absent from the Rangers' starting lineup for Friday night's game against the Cardinals. Rangers’ captain Bruce Bochy announced that Adolis García was given the night off to take a mental break and reset. The outfielder is hitting .122 (5-for-41) with 18 strikeouts over his last 12 games. The 32-year-old power hitter has a disappointing slash line of .208/.256/.371 with seven home runs, 27 RBIs, five stolen bases, and a 57/11 K/BB ratio in 215 plate appearances this season. Prior to Friday's game against the Rays, Yordan Álvarez participated in live batting practice on the field. Yordan Álvarez hit a home run to finish his live batting practice session before Friday's game against the Rays, as reported by Chandler Rome of The Athletic. Although Yordan was eligible to be activated, it seems he wasn't ready for Friday's game. Rome observed that Mauricio Dubón and José Altuve stood up as if to signal they were convinced of Yordan's recovery after his home run, suggesting he might be activated as a designated hitter on Saturday or Sunday. Yoán Moncada was absent from the lineup for Friday’s game against the Guardians. Yoán Moncada exited Wednesday's game against the Yankees due to knee soreness and will be out for at least one additional game because of the injury. Mariners outfield prospect Lázaro Montes went 2-for-3 and hit a two-run home run on Friday for High-A Everett. Lázaro Montes hit his Northwest League-leading 11th home run of the season on Friday night with a powerful shot that exited his bat at an impressive 114 mph. As a 20-year-old corner outfielder, Montes needs to excel offensively as a bat-first prospect to make a major impact in the future. This season, he is exceeding expectations with a strong .966 OPS at the High-A level.

  • MLB 2025 | Yandy drove in two runs; Arozarena struck out three times; Daysbel was charged with a loss; Iglesias's struggles persist; Yordan may return with the Astros this weekend

Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources. Yandy Díaz had two hits in five at-bats, including a double and two RBIs, as the Rays dominated the Astros in Houston on Thursday night. Yandy Díaz put the Rays on the scoreboard first with a sacrifice fly off Ryan Gusto in the first inning. Later, he hit a go-ahead RBI single during a five-run rally in the seventh inning, securing a lead for the Rays that they maintained. This marked Yandy's first multi-hit game since May 21, as his recent performance at the plate has been relatively quiet in terms of batting average. Over his last 11 games, the veteran corner infielder is hitting just .234 with one home run, three doubles, 10 RBIs, and five runs scored. However, Yandy has achieved four multi-RBI games and multi-hit games during this stretch. With his two-hit performance, the 33-year-old first baseman is now batting .237/.281/.389, with seven home runs, 31 RBIs, and three stolen bases for the season. Randy Arozarena's offensive struggles continue. Randy Arozarena's offensive difficulties persisted on Thursday as the Mariners fell 9-3 to the Nationals. Arozarena went 0-for-5 with 3 strikeouts. He is now on a 0-for-14 streak with 7 strikeouts, and following Thursday's game, his offensive stats dropped to .219/.351/.380 with 6 home runs and 22 RBIs. Despite maintaining a high Avg Exit Velocity of 91.8 and a BB% of 12.6, Arozarena is struggling with balance, recording a career-high K% of 29.4 and his worst Whiff% since 2020 at 32.7, when he hit a 36.8 fly ball. Additionally, with a 2024 season closely resembling the current 2025 performance, it's no surprise that Arozarena's Pull AIR% is at a career-high 25.0, following his previous worst of 20.1 in 2024. Daysbel Hernández was charged with a loss. Daysbel Hernández had his second straight appearance allowing a run during the Braves' 5-4 defeat to the Phillies in the first game of a doubleheader. Daysbel came in during the eighth inning, giving up a single to Nick Castellanos, walking Mac Kepler, and after Edmundo Sosa's sacrifice bunt moved the runners forward, he walked Brandon Marsh and hit Rafael Marchán, which allowed the Phillies to score their fifth and decisive run. In his last seven outings, Daysbel has pitched 6 2/3 innings and issued an alarming 11 walks. Despite maintaining a solid ERA of 2.70 over this period, Daysbel's walk rate is the third-worst in MLB among pitchers with at least 75 plate appearances, at 17.5%, closely resembling the 16.4% of his teammate Cionel Perez, who was already designated for assignment by the Orioles. Raisel Iglesias allows another run. Raisel Iglesias took the mound in a non-save situation during the second game of the Phillies-Braves road trip, which ended in a 9-3 victory for the Braves. After five days without pitching, Iglesias aimed to stretch his arm and rebuild his confidence against the formidable Phillies offense. However, he struggled, giving up one run on two hits with just one strikeout, raising his ERA to 7.11 over the last seven games. During this period, he has allowed 11 hits in just 6 1/3 innings with only 4 strikeouts. In May, opponents have hit .333 against him, and his ERA remained high at 6.10 over 10 1/3 innings, similar to the 6.30 ERA over 10 innings in April. Raisel urgently needs to improve his performances, as the Braves' patience with the veteran closer is wearing thin. The team is currently three games under .500 and 9 1/2 games behind the Phillies in the competitive NL East. Yordan Álvarez might return to the Astros this weekend. General manager Dana Brown and manager Joe Espada observed Yordan Álvarez during batting practice. The 27-year-old power hitter has been sidelined since early May due to inflammation in his right hand. However, his participation in batting practice is a highly encouraging sign. Yordan will take live pitching on Friday and he is not expected to require a rehab start, so there is a possibility he will return to the Astros lineup this weekend.

This Saturday, Game 1 for the championship of the Third Elite Cuban Baseball League (III ELCB) will begin at José Ramón Cepero Stadium in Ciego de Ávila. The Ciego de Ávila Tigres will compete against the Las Tunas Leñadores, with both teams aiming for their first title in the elite editions of Cuban baseball. Before the final, the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation (FCBS) announced today the reinforcement selections for each team, which this time consist of a single player as per tournament regulations. (Photo by Roberto Morejón) Ciego de Ávila, the leader of the qualifying round who progressed to the final by defeating Industriales 4-1 in the best-of-seven series, chose outfielder Dennis Laza from Mayabeque, who played for the Industriales Lions in this III ELCB. Meanwhile, Las Tunas chose Granma's third baseman, Osvaldo Abreu, who had reinforced the Santiago de Cuba team, eliminated in the semifinal against them. Granma's infielder Osvaldo Abreu was selected by Las Tunas Leñadores manager Abeicy Pantoja to face Ciego de Ávila in the final of the 3rd LEBC. (Photo by Diario Digital Jit) Las Tunas secured second place in the tournament's qualifying stage and moved on to the final by overcoming Santiago de Cuba in the semifinals, winning in six games. The III ELCB final is set to start at Cepero Stadium in Ciego de Ávila with the initial two matches on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1. The final will then shift to Julio A. Mella Stadium in Las Tunas for the next three matches, scheduled from May 3 to 5. If the series goes beyond five games, games 6 and 7 will take place at José Ramón Cepero Stadium on June 7 and 8. • III Elite League - Postseason | The Las Tunas Lumberjacks defeated the Santiago de Cuba Wasps 10-6 in Game 6, advancing to the Elite League final against the Ciego de Ávila Tigers

The Las Tunas Lumberjacks are on the brink of becoming the absolute champions of Cuba. On Wednesday afternoon, they secured a 10-6 victory over the Santiago de Cuba Wasps in Game 6 of the semifinals of the III Cuban Baseball Elite League (III ELCB), held at Julio A. Mella Park in Las Tunas. This win advances them to the tournament final, where the Ciego de Ávila Tigers have been waiting since last Sunday. Box score Even though the final schedule hasn't been announced yet, many view Tigres as slight favorites, as they defeated the Leñadores five games to three during the qualifying stage of the III ELCB. Santiago de Cuba ended up in third place in this III ELCB, after completing the qualifying stage ahead of Industriales. Las Tunas advances to its first Elite League final and its third overall final in the last three years in Cuban baseball. (Photo by István Ojeda) This afternoon, it briefly appeared that the Wasps might prolong the series, as they secured a five-run lead in the third inning and maintained it for five and a half innings. In that period, Santiago de Cuba right-hander Osvaldo Acuña displayed exceptional skill over the initial five innings, effectively managing every Las Tunas batter by conceding just four hits and two runs. Notably, in three of those innings, Acuña didn't give up a hit, although he did hit Roberto Baldoquín with a pitch in the fifth inning, which had no significant impact. His teammates provided him with a five-run lead in the third inning, combining a six-hit offensive with two errors by the Lumberjacks' defense. Raydel Sánchez, Alexander Llánes, and José L. Gutiérrez singled off starter Jesús E. Pérez to load the bases in the third inning. After Francisco Martínez was out, Osvaldo Abreu grounded to Pérez, forcing the runner at home. But attempting a double play, catcher Yosvani Alarcón made a throwing error to first base, allowing the runner from second to score the game's first run. Jeison Martínez hit a double that brought in the second run. Edilse Silva was intentionally walked on a 3-1 count to load the bases again. Pérez then struck out Eduardo García, which should have been the third out of the inning. However, Alarcón allowed a passed ball and committed another throwing error to first base, allowing Santiago to score two additional runs and extend the inning. Yulieski Remón hit a single to center field, bringing in the inning's final run and prompting the Las Tunas starter to leave the game. Pérez didn't perform exceptionally, but to be fair, he wasn't well supported defensively during the inning. Additional runs might have been scored, but against reliever Wilson Paredes (3-0), who eventually won the game, Raydel Sánchez secured his second hit of the inning. Nonetheless, Eduardo García was tagged out at home plate by a strong throw from right fielder Héctor Castillo, concluding the inning. A great throw from right fielder Héctor Castillo to catcher Yosvani Alarcón brought Eduardo García out at home plate, ending a third inning in which Santiago de Cuba scored five runs. (Photo by István Ojeda) The Santiago starter, Acuña, faced his first challenging moment of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Castillo started with a single, advanced to second on a Yuniesky Larduet groundout, and moved to third due to an error. Acuña seemed to have gotten out of the inning without any damage after striking out Baldoquín for the second out. However, Luis V. Mateo hit a double, allowing Las Tunas to score their first run, and Yosvani Alarcón followed with another hit, narrowing the score to 5-2. The game stayed the same, as Santiago posed a threat by getting two hits off Paredes in the fifth inning, but this didn't affect the score. It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth inning that Las Tunas mounted a comeback, clinching the game and their spot in the final. Acuña started the inning by allowing consecutive singles to the Alarcón brothers. Yudier Rondón then hit an RBI single, making the score 5-3. As a result, Santiago manager Eddy Cajigal decided to call in the bullpen earlier than usual, despite Acuña having thrown only 79 pitches. Right-handed pitcher Joel Tejeda stepped up to the mound and, after retiring Leonel Moas in a fly-out caught by catcher Llánes, Lázaro Ponce boldly hit a single to left field on the first pitch. An error by outfielder Gutiérrez then enabled Alarcón to score, bringing Las Tunas just one run away from tying the game. This followed a puzzling play where Rondón attempted to steal third and was nearly caught by pitcher Tejeda. However, Tejeda's throw to third was insufficient, as third baseman Abreu was positioned too far forward to effectively block the runner. Moments later, Castillo hit a grounder to shortstop, driving in Rondón for the tying run, while Ponce was tagged out at second. Castillo then stole second and scored on Larduet's single to left, giving Las Tunas their first lead of the game, which they maintained. The last two runs of the inning were scored when shortstop Yulieski Remón committed an error on Baldoquín's ground ball, allowing runners to reach third and second. Mateo then hit a triple to center field, driving in both runners and completing a six-run inning, which gave the Leñadores an 8-5 advantage. "They're fighters. Even with Santiago ahead by five, they were determined, saying, 'Now it's our turn to take control of the game, we're going to seize it from them.' On the bench, their focus was entirely on staging a comeback," Las Tunas manager Abeicy Pantoja shared with reporter Gretel Yanet after the match. An inning later, Las Tunas extended their lead against Tejeda on a Moas' single and Ponce's RBI double. In the eighth, they scored their last run against the Santiago team's fourth reliever, Jesús Quintán, when he walked Mateo, went to third on a Yosvani Alarcón single, and scored on a Yordanis Alarcón sacrifice fly. After starter Jesús E. Pérez left in the third inning, the Leñadores' bullpen effectively silenced the Wasps. Wilson Paredes pitched for 3 1/3 innings, while Kenel Ferráz and Rodolfo Silva each contributed one inning. Together, they delivered 5 1/3 scoreless innings, with four strikeouts, two walks, and allowing six hits, which gave their offense a chance to rally, as they did in the sixth inning. When Cristian Rojas was tasked with finishing Las Tunas' win in the ninth inning, he started by walking Gutiérrez and giving up a single to Francisco Martínez. Yanielquis Duardo came in and clinched the win by retiring the next three batters, but he couldn't prevent Gutiérrez from scoring one last run on Jeison Martínez's sacrifice fly. "Ciego is a formidable rival. I've always maintained that they are not inferior to anyone, and now they're set to compete for the championship. But we are fully committed. We've already set our sights on our objective: we're aiming for the championship," manager Abeicy Pantoja stated to Gretel Yanet regarding Ciego de Ávila, Las Tunas' upcoming opponent in the final of this III Elite League. Leonel Moas, a Camagüey native who was a key player for Las Tunas in this semifinal with an offensive line of .370/.414/.519 and 6 RBIs in the series, shared with journalist Gretel Yanet: "We achieved our objective, which was to try to finish today. We couldn't do it in Santiago, but today things went better for us and we won." He added, "The team always believed that things would improve after the two losses in Santiago, and upon returning to the Forest - in reference to the Julio A. Mella stadium - we played better than we did on the road, and everything went as we expected." Player of the Game Wilson Paredes | Las Tunas W, 3.1 IP, 5 H, 2 SO, BB Best Performers Luis V. • MLB 2025 | Vargas hit his 15th double; Moncada left the game due to an injury; Chapman pitched a scoreless inning; Soler had a multi-hit game; Yandy went hitless again; Pagés recorded his 32nd RBI

Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources. Miguel Vargas is on a five-game hitting streak. Miguel Vargas is currently on a modest five-game hitting streak, having gone 1-for-3 on Wednesday during the White Sox's 9-4 win over the Mets. His only hit was his 15th double of the season. Vargas is also reaching base more often, drawing two walks on Wednesday. Vargas scored two runs in the game and struck out once. The Cuban infielder is a standout this year among Cubans in the Majors, establishing himself as a notable hitter after three challenging years with the Dodgers and the White Sox. In his last 31 games, Vargas is batting .316/.382/.607 with eight home runs, 10 doubles and 18 runs. Yoán Moncada exited Wednesday’s game against the Yankees due to soreness in his right knee. Yoán Moncada was substituted by Kevin Newman at third base at the start of the sixth inning after recording a 1-for-2 performance with a double. The 30-year-old infielder will undergo further evaluation to assess the seriousness of the issue. The good news is that it is not connected to the thumb problem that troubled him earlier this season. An update on his condition is expected before Friday’s series opener against the Guardians. Aroldis Chapman made a comeback on Wednesday. Following a blown save opportunity on Tuesday, Aroldis Chapman returned on Wednesday to pitch a scoreless ninth inning in a non-save situation against the Brewers. Despite Boston's 6-5 loss in 10 innings, Chapman gave up a hit but allowed no runs and struck out one batter. He has accumulated 8 saves this season, with an ERA of 2.05, a 3-2 record, and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 29:8 over 24 games and 22 innings. Interestingly, the Red Sox have suffered 8 losses when Chapman pitches, the highest number among all roster pitchers this year. Jorge Soler achieved a game with multiple hits. It's unusual to see Jorge Soler have a multi-hit game, but the Cuban outfielder went 2-for-3 on Wednesday in a 1-0 loss to the Yankees. He also drew a walk and struck out. Soler was not in the lineup on Tuesday but returned batting fifth and playing right field. This was just his third multi-hit game in May, a month during which he is recording a .202/.287/.310 slash line with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs. Edgar Quero did not get any hits on Wednesday. Following a three-hit game on Tuesday, Edgar Quero went hitless against the Mets on Wednesday. He gave up catching duties to Korey Lee, who was activated from the 10-day IL, and served as the designated hitter for the White Sox. Quero went 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout. The promising Cuban catcher has seen a decline this season, batting only .216/.286/.275 over his last 15 games, after starting his MLB career with a .306/.432/.361 in his first month. Yandy Díaz hitless again. Yandy Díaz went 0-for-4 on Wednesday in a 5-0 defeat against the Twins. He hasn't hit a single in his last nine at-bats and is currently 1-for-21 with 8 strikeouts over his past five games. Known for his consistent hitting, Yandy is definitely experiencing a slump right now. Andy Pagés recorded a RBI on Wednesday. On Wednesday, Andy Pagés went 1-for-4 in a 7-4 defeat against the Guardians. He hit an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie. This RBI marked his 32nd of the year, making him the leading Cuban player in that category. Luis Robert Jr. was not included in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Mets because of knee soreness. Initially, it appeared to be a standard day off for Robert when he sat out on Tuesday, but it was revealed he has a minor knee problem. According to Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times, Robert stated he expects to be ready for Friday's series opener against Baltimore. The 27-year-old has been productive this season with 21 stolen bases, though he's batting only .190/.276/.307 and has a 29 percent strikeout rate. Randy Arozarena hitless on Wednesday. Randy Arozarena went 0-for-3 on Wednesday during a 9-0 defeat to the Nationals, striking out twice. It's been a challenging year and month for Arozarena. After batting just .188 in five games in March and .211 in April, Arozarena was showing improvement, with his batting average in May reaching a yearly high of .247. However, he is currently in a slump, going nine consecutive at-bats without a hit, and is batting only .196/.297/.321 in his last 15 games, with one home run, two RBIs, and just one stolen base. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. recorded one hit on Wednesday. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is currently on a six-game hitting streak, following a 1-for-4 showing in the D-backs' 10-1 defeat to the Pirates. In May, Gurriel has maintained a strong performance, hitting .312/.367/.525 with 4 home runs and 16 RBIs. This success has placed him second in RBIs (31) this year among Cuban players. Víctor Mesa Jr. did not get any hits on Wednesday. After achieving his first MLB hit and RBI on Tuesday, Víctor Mesa Jr. took the field once more on Wednesday, contributing to the Marlins' 10-8 victory over the Padres. Batting ninth and covering center field, he went 0-for-2, drew a walk, and scored the first run of his MLB career. This marks his second consecutive game as a starter. Adolis García's struggles persist. Adolis García's batting struggles persisted on Wednesday during the Rangers' 2-0 loss to the Blue Jays. He was hitless in three at-bats, striking out twice, which dropped his season batting average to .208. He is now hitless in his last eight at-bats and has accumulated five strikeouts over his last three games and nine at-bats. Johan Oviedo is close to participating in live batting practice. According to MLB.com, Joan Oviedo is conducting side sessions without experiencing any discomfort. Oviedo has been pitching for about five weeks and is scheduled to throw live batting practice in the next week to 10 days. Although he has made progress, he will need an extended rehab assignment, which will probably sideline him until sometime in July. Activation of Pedro León is awaiting completion. Pedro León will persist with his rehabilitation at Triple-A Sugar Land and is expected to be taken off the 10-day injured list either Thursday or Friday. As part of his rehab assignment, León participated in three games in the Florida Complex League, achieving a 4-for-12 record with three home runs. He appears to have fully recovered from the knee sprain and is anticipated to be called up in the coming days.

  • MLB 2025 | Vargas with double and home run on Tuesday; Chapman blows first save; First hit and RBI for Víctor Mesa Jr.; Lourdes Gurriel Jr. with multi-hit game; Yariel with another scoreless outing

Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources. Miguel Vargas with his eight homer of 2025. On Tuesday night, Miguel Vargas went 2-for-5, hitting a home run, a double, and driving in three runs, but it wasn't sufficient to lead the White Sox to a win against the Mets. Vargas put the White Sox ahead early with a 354-foot (105.2 mph exit velocity) two-run homer off Tylor Megill in the first inning. Later, he hit a double that drove in a run in the seventh inning, narrowing the gap for the White Sox to 5-4. Vargas has recorded an extra-base hit in each of the last four games, and in his past 14 games, he's impressively slashing .310/.328/.724 with six doubles and six home runs among his 18 hits. The 25-year-old appears to be hitting his stride in Chicago, currently posting a slash line of .244/.316/.440, with eight home runs, 26 RBIs, and one stolen base this season. Aroldis Chapman experienced his first blown save on Tuesday against the Brewers after allowing a run in the ninth inning. Aroldis Chapman was credited with a blown save in Tuesday's defeat to the Brewers after giving up a run on two hits and a walk during an inning of pitching. He also recorded one strikeout. Chapman entered in the ninth inning to secure the one-run lead after Richard Fitts and the bullpen kept the Brewers scoreless. He faced a situation with runners on the corners and one out when Sal Frelick drove in a run, pushing the game into extra innings. This was Chapman's first appearance of the season where he allowed multiple hits, marking his first blown save of the year. Over his last six outings, he has given up five hits and three walks but has minimized the damage. The 37-year-old has a 2.14 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and a 28:8 K:BB ratio over 21 innings. Víctor Mesa Jr. with his first hit and RBI on MLB. Víctor Mesa Jr. took only two games to achieve his first hit and RBI in MLB. This occurred during the Marlins' 7-6 defeat to the Padres on Tuesday. In the first inning, when the Marlins scored six runs but still ended up losing, Mesa hit a single off starter Stephen Kolek with a ground ball to right field, bringing Connor Norby home. Overall, he went 1-for-4 in the game. In his birthday, Yoán Moncada hit a solo home run and went 1-for-4 in the game against the Yankees on Tuesday. The Angels hadn't scored through eight innings until Yoán Moncada hit a solo home run off Devin Williams at the start of the ninth, reducing the deficit to two runs. The 30-year-old third baseman now has five home runs and 18 RBIs, with a batting line of .222/.330/.467 over 106 plate appearances. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. with another multi-hit game. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. recorded two hits in four at-bats, including a double, one RBI, and a stolen base during Tuesday's 9-6 defeat to the Pirates. Over his last four games, Gurriel has secured two stolen bases and has achieved four multi-hit performances in his last five games. His recent success at the plate has boosted his batting average to .245 for the season, along with a .719 OPS, eight home runs, 31 RBI, 19 runs scored, three steals, and 12 doubles across 51 games. Despite this improvement, Gurriel's average remains significantly below his career norm, suggesting he could continue to progress towards his usual level of performance. Randy Arozarena went hitless on Tuesday. In a 9-1 win over the Nationals, Randy Arozarena went 0-for-3, contributing an RBI, drawing a walk, and striking out once. He has been struggling lately, batting only .185/.313/.296 with no home runs and just one RBI over his last seven games. Yariel Rodríguez dazzles in relief Tuesday. Yariel Rodríguez threw another scoreless outing in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers. He allowed one hit and struck out one over two scoreless innings. The 28-year-old right-hander needed only 26 pitches (17 strikes) to record his six outs - he also caught Josh Smith off guard at first base -, as Rodríguez helped give the Blue Jays' usual high-leverage options a breather by working the sixth and seventh innings. He looks a different pitcher right now and may be also used in high leverage situations. Rodríguez has recorded 13 consecutive scoreless innings, and over his last nine outings and 13 innings he's posted a 14:2 K:BB. Yennier Cano achieved two clean outs on Tuesday. Yennier Cano participated in Tuesday's Orioles' 7-4 defeat against the Cardinals. He pitched in the seventh inning, securing two outs, one of which was a strikeout. This performance reduced his ERA to 4.34 for the season. After a challenging month of May, he now has three straight appearances without allowing a score. Yandy Díaz hitless agains the Twins. During Tuesday's 4-2 defeat against the Twins, Yandy Díaz was hitless in four at-bats and struck out three times. This marked his first game of the year with three strikeouts. He has also been facing offensive difficulties recently, managing just 1-for-17 (.059) with 7 strikeouts over his last four games. Daysbel Hernández encountered difficulties against the Phillies on Tuesday. Daysbel Hernández came into the game in the eighth inning, with the Braves trailing 1-0 and needing to keep the score unchanged. However, after securing the first two outs, he gave up consecutive singles and issued two straight walks, allowing the Phillies to extend their lead to 2-0. The Braves are relying heavily on Daysbel in the bullpen, but his struggles with a 5.7 walks per 9 innings and a mere 6.5 strikeouts per 9 innings do not support his case. Adolis García went without a hit on Tuesday. In Tuesday's 2-0 victory over the Blue Jays, Adolis García went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. He was moved up to sixth in the lineup for this game, but it didn't impact his performance. Adolis is facing challenges this year, as evidenced by his .130/.167/.304 line over the last seven games, with one home run and three RBIs. Overall, he has only 7 home runs and 27 RBIs, along with 55 strikeouts in 212 plate appearances. Luis Robert Jr. was not in the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Mets. It was a typical rest day for Luis Robert Jr., who has successfully stolen a base in four straight games. Robert tops the league with 21 stolen bases—just two shy of his career-best 23 steals from last season—but his offensive performance in 2025 has been underwhelming, with a .191/.277/.309 slash line over 50 games. Although he’s familiar with physical challenges, he has remained mostly healthy this season. This is his first day off since May 13.

  • III Elite League – Postseason | Francisco Martínez's grand slam in the tenth inning gives Santiago de Cuba a 15-14 victory over Las Tunas, forcing Game 6 of the series this Wednesday

Francisco Martinez hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning off closer Alberto Pablo Civil (1-1), securing a 15-14 victory for the Santiago de Cuba Wasps over Las Tunas in Game 5 of the semifinals of the III Cuban Baseball Elite League (III LEBC). This win brought the best-of-seven series to 3-2, with Las Tunas still leading, and forced a return to the Julio A. Mella stadium for Game 6 next Wednesday. Box score In the highly anticipated match, which serves as Las Tunas' second opportunity to clinch a spot in the final of this III LEBC, or alternatively, could result in a 3-3 series tie with a win for Santiago de Cuba, there has been no announcement regarding the pitchers. However, right-handers Alejandro Meneses for Las Tunas and Osvaldo Acuña for Santiago de Cuba appear to be the most probable starters for this crucial game. Francisco Martínez again decided a victory for Santiago de Cuba in extra innings in this semifinal of the III LEBC, this time with his grand slam in the 10th inning, sending the series back to Las Tunas for Game 6. (Photo by István Ojeda/Periódico26) In a match where the two teams combined for 29 runs, achieved 30 hits, and made eight errors, Santiago de Cuba succeeded in preventing a series loss at Guillermón Moncada Park. This led to a Game 6, which seemed improbable by the fourth inning as Las Tunas was ahead 8-0. It was a remarkable comeback and possibly one of the most extraordinary in a single Cuban postseason game. Just envision that, two innings later in the sixth inning, Las Tunas was on the verge of winning Game 5 by a knockout score, with a 10-2 lead. How did they get here? Simply put, Las Tunas unleashed a 10-hit offense in the first six innings, scoring once in the opening inning with a triple by Yudier Rondón and Yuniesky Larduet on base from a single. In the second inning, they scored four times, all against starter Yosiel Serrano, who didn't make it past that inning. During this inning, Larduet hit a two-run single that forced Serrano out, and Rondón hit a two-run home run off reliever Danny Betancourt. In the fourth inning, Betancourt also exited after allowing a double by Lázaro Ponce and an RBI single by Héctor Castillo, extending the Leñadores' lead to 6-0. Two more runs were added in the inning when, against new reliever Islay Sotolongo, a ground ball error by shortstop Yunior Otero allowed one run, and a single by Rondón brought in another, making it 8-0. Following a walk to Luis V. Mateo, Sotolongo was also taken out, a move that deserves commendation for coach Eddy Cajigal.. This time, knowing he had to win, he didn't hesitate to pull his relievers. At the same time, left-handed starter Eliander Bravo from Las Tunas once more delivered an impressive performance against the Santiago de Cuba offense, giving up four consecutive scoreless innings, allowing four hits, and only one walk. In the fifth inning, Santiago de Cuba's offense began to come alive against Bravo. During this inning, the Santiago de Cuba team scored its initial two runs. Raydel Sánchez started with a double to right field. A ground ball by catcher Alexander Llánes advanced him to third base, and he scored on a single by José L. Gutiérrez. An error on a grounder by Francisco Martínez left runners at first and third, and Osvaldo Abreu promptly hit a sacrifice fly to right field. Las Tunas quickly responded, reclaiming an eight-run advantage by adding two runs in the top of the sixth inning off Santiago's third reliever, right-hander Isdenis Núñez. Rodón started the inning with a triple to right field, and after two outs, Yordanis Alarcón hit a home run to left. Las Tunas was ahead 10-2. For Isdenis, who had been pitching since the fourth inning, these were the first two hits he had given up in the game. Ultimately, the right-hander completed a solid 3 1/3 innings of relief, allowing only two runs in the sixth inning while effectively containing the Las Tunas offense, permitting just three hits along with three walks and two strikeouts. The seventh inning would be his last; with Ponce on first base after a single and two outs already recorded, he walked Larduet, prompting Cajigal to call for the reliever. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Wasps initiated their relentless offensive, resulting in 13 runs over the final four innings of the game. This was particularly notable against Las Tunas manager Abeicy Pantoja, who inexplicably permitted his first reliever, Yanielquis Duardo, to be continuously punished. In the seventh inning, with one out, a triple by Llanes, a double by Gutierrez, and a grounder by Francisco Martinez that advanced Gutierrez to third, resulted in a run and left another potential run just 90 feet from home plate. Pantoja decided to pull Bravo from the game after a solid 6 2/3 innings, during which he allowed 6 hits and 2 walks. However, Duardo, who had been effective in the series up to this point, struggled this time. In this inning, Duardo allowed two more runs when Abreu hit an RBI single, scoring Gutiérrez from third, followed by a Jeison Martínez double that brought Abreu home. Santiago was now trailing 10-5. However, the real disaster and puzzling inaction from the Las Tunas manager occurred an inning later. Edilse Silva kicked off the eighth inning with his second home run of the semifinal, a solo shot that reduced Las Tunas' lead to 10-6. Singles from Yulieski Remón and Sánchez, along with a ground ball error by Llánes, loaded the bases. Gutiérrez hit a sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 10-7, and after Francisco Martínez struck out, Abreu's single drove in another run, bringing Santiago just two runs shy of tying the game. Abreu's undeniable performance should have prompted Duardo's removal, but Pantoja showed no intention of pulling his reliever, and Jeison Martínez made him pay for his boldness, hitting a three-run home run that flipped the score, putting the Wasps ahead 11-10 in front of a jubilant Guillermón Moncada Stadium. (Photo by István Ojeda/Periódico26) Las Tunas, who had controlled the game throughout, suddenly found themselves in a tight spot, just three outs away from extending the series. However, they persevered, and in the ninth inning, they leveled the game against reliever Israel Sánchez. After the first out of the inning with Ponce's strikeout, Castillo hit a crucial double to right field, stole third base, and scored on Roberto Baldoquín's single to right. This hit led to Sánchez's exit and a short inning for Yoandro Daudinot, who, after walking Larduet, passed the ball to right-hander Wilber Reyna (3-7), who eventually secured the win. After Santiago failed to score in the bottom of the ninth, the game moved into extra innings with the IBAF Rule in effect to determine the series outcome. With runners on first and second and the potential for a sacrifice bunt, Reyna made the situation more complex by committing a throwing error to second base, allowing both runners to advance. Mateo then relinquished a slim lead with a grounder to second base that enabled Larduet to score from third, and an unnecessary intentional walk to Yosvani Alarcón left runners on the corners. Shortly after, a popup by Yordanis Alarcón to left field caused Gutiérrez to commit Santiago's fifth error of the game, giving Las Tunas a 13-11 advantage. The inning's final run was driven in by Lázaro Ponce, whose single to center seemed to secure the Leñadores' advancement to the final with a score of 14-11. The Santiago team faced a challenge, trailing by three runs and having to contend with closer Alberto Pablo Civil in the bottom of the tenth. Civil aimed to complete his second consecutive six-out appearance to clinch another Las Tunas' victory. However, with runners on second and first, Civil loaded the bases by hitting Gutiérrez in an 1-2 count. This set the scene for Francisco Martínez's decisive home run. Despite being 0-for-5 earlier in the afternoon, Martínez took advantage of a favorable 2-1 count to secure Santiago's second victory in this semifinal. • MLB 2025 | Luis Robert steals another base; Iglesias hits a crucial double; Cano records ninth hold; Víctor Mesa Jr. makes his MLB debut; Morejón earns a win; Lourdes Gurriel Jr. with multi-hit game

Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources. Luis Robert Jr. continues to be assertive on the basepaths. On Monday against the Mets, Luis Robert Jr. had one hit in four at-bats and stole a base. Luis Robert has successfully reached base in four straight games and has stolen a base in each of them. He has accumulated 21 stolen bases this season, having been caught only five times. Although Robert is batting just .218 in May, he has recorded 11 RBIs and eight runs scored over 22 games. José Iglesias hit a two-run double, aiding the Padres in securing an extra-innings victory against the Marlins on Monday. In the fourth inning, José Iglesias hit a double that drove in two runs, bringing the Padres closer to the lead with a score of 3-2. The 35-year-old also earned a walk, but despite reaching base three times in the game, his stats remain at a disappointing .255/.307/.302 over 106 at-bats in 35 games with San Diego. Yennier Cano secures his ninth hold of the year. Amid recent changes in the Orioles roster, Yennier Cano is striving to maintain his position as a setup man. On Monday, he delivered his second consecutive scoreless inning in a 5-2 victory over the Cardinals. Cano pitched a flawless 8th inning, recording one strikeout and reducing his ERA to 4.50 for the season. Although he began the season perfectly, Cano has faced challenges in May, with a substantial 9.72 ERA this month, allowing nine runs in 8 1/3 innings. Miguel Vargas and Edgar Quero delivered similar performance on Monday. Miguel Vargas and Edgar Quero delivered similar performances during Monday's 2-1 loss by the White Sox to the Mets. Both players went 1-for-4, each hitting a double. Quero also struck out once. For Vargas, it was his 13th double of the year and his 20th extra-base hit in 2025, while for Quero, it marked his 6th double. Andy Pagés added an RBI on Monday. During the Dodgers' 7-2 win over the Guardians on Monday, Andy Pagés went 1-for-3, achieving his 30th RBI of the season, and also drew a walk. In a crowded Dodgers outfield, he is solidifying his position in center field (31 games), supported by his slash line of .323/.341/.548, with 7 home runs, 25 RBIs, and 6 stolen bases over his last 30 games. Víctor Mesa Jr made his MLB debut with the Marlins. Víctor Mesa Jr. was activated for Monday’s game against the Padres, but he was not included in the starting lineup. During the Marlins' 4-3 loss to the Padres, Mesa made his MLB debut, entering the game on defense in the seventh inning and playing center field. In his only at-bat, he struck out against reliever Jason Adam to begin the 10th inning. The 23-year-old prospect had missed time earlier in the year due to a hamstring injury but was batting .300 with one home run in six games since returning to action at the Triple-A level. Like his father, Mesa is certainly talented enough to make an impact with the Marlins, provided he gets a real chance to play every day and capitalize on his opportunities. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has achieved another multi-hit game. In the D-backs' 5-0 victory over the Pirates on Monday, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. achieved a 2-for-4 performance. This marked Gurriel's 15th multi-hit game of the season and his tenth in May. Over his last 15 games, he is slashing .300/.358/.483 with two home runs and 10 RBIs. Adrián Morejón secured a victory. In a 4-3 victory for the Padres over the Marlins in extra innings, Adrián Morejón secured his second win of the year. Morejón pitched a scoreless eleventh inning, striking out one batter. His record for 2025 stands at 2-2 with a 3.09 ERA. While Morejón is anticipated to continue his role in relief for San Diego, he is also being considered for a position in the starting rotation. Last season, coming out of the bullpen, he recorded a 2.83 ERA with 71 strikeouts. Yoán Moncada and Jorge Soler went hitless on Monday. In a 5-1 loss to the Yankees, Yoán Moncada and Jorge Soler collectively went 0-for-8. Soler also struck out once in his four at-bats. In 2025, Moncada has a batting line of .221/.333/.442 with 4 home runs and 17 RBIs, while Soler is hitting .217/.288/.386 with 7 home runs and 21 RBIs. Yandy Díaz did not play on Monday. According to Brian Murphy of MLB.com, Yandy Díaz was not included in the Rays' starting lineup for Monday's game against the Twins. After making nine straight starts as DH for Tampa Bay, Yandy took the night off. Adolis García recorded a hit on Monday. Adolis García's challenging 2025 season persists, as he remained in the 8th position in the Rangers lineup on Monday, going 1-for-3 with two strikeouts. The Rangers ultimately lost 2-1 to the Blue Jays. While Adolis continues to be a reliable outfielder for the Rangers, his batting consistency is lacking this year. Over his last seven games, he is slashing .167/.200/.333 with one home run and 3 RBIs, bringing his season totals to 7 home runs and 27 RBIs. Yohandy Morales has been promoted to Triple-A. On Friday, the Nationals advanced Yohandy Morales, son of Cuban Andy Morales, from Double-A Harrisburg to Triple-A Rochester. Morales was the first pick of the second round in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, but his 2024 season was disrupted by a thumb injury. The 23-year-old began the current season in good health and made a strong start with Harrisburg, recording a .315/.366/.520 slash line with four home runs and a 23.2 percent strikeout rate over 33 games, which led to his promotion. In his first three games with Rochester, he has gone 2-for-9, drawing three walks and striking out twice. This season, Morales has played both third base and first base, but he is expected to primarily play first base or serve as a designated hitter in the majors.
