Yandy Díaz blasted a leadoff home run on Thursday as the Rays triumphed over the Red Sox yet again in Tampa Bay.
Díaz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 9-3 win over Boston. After the Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning, Díaz immediately evened the score -- crushing a Corey Kluber sinker for a 434-foot (111.0 mph EV) solo shot. It was his lone hit in four at-bats on the afternoon. Díaz has shown some unexpected power early this season -- he already has four long balls after hitting just nine in 473 at-bats last season. The 31-year-old is batting .275/.388/.600 with 13 runs scored and nine RBI while serving as Tampa Bay's primary leadoff hitter.
Yennier Cano is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to join the Orioles' bullpen on Friday.
With Keegan Akin heading to the paternity leave list and Cole Irvin being optioned to Triple-A following Thursday's start, the O's are in need of a couple of fresh arms on Friday. The 29-year-old hurler has fired three scoreless innings with a 1.33 WHIP and a 4/1 K/BB ratio to begin the year at Triple-A.
Randy Arozarena: One RBI on Thursday.
Arozarena went 1-for-4 with a run scored, a RBI and a strikeout in Thursday's 9-3 win over the Red Sox. The 28-year-old has come out of the gate flying in 2023, batting .314 (16-for-51) through thirteen games with three homers, sixteen RBI, eleven runs and a 4:9 BB:K.
