Adolis García hit a three-run home run to even the score in the bottom of the 10th inning against the Orioles on Monday.
Adolis García went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and a stolen base in Monday's 10-6 extra-innings loss to the Orioles. This performance ended an eight-game streak without multiple hits, during which he was 3-for-31 (.097) with 12 strikeouts. The outfielder's homer tied the game in the 10th inning, but the Rangers allowed four runs in the 11th. Adolis is hitting .225 with 10 home runs, eight steals, 45 RBIs, and 27 runs scored this season, numbers that are on a similar trajectory to his 2024 performance. He’s still slugging a disappointing .388 with a less-than-stellar .659 OPS over the Rangers’ first 85 games.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a home run, aiding the Diamondbacks in their victory over the Giants on Monday.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-2 victory over the Giants. Gurriel has not had a multi-hit game in his last eight appearances. His home run on Monday broke a 15-game drought without a homer, during which he hit just .217 with four RBIs and three stolen bases. The outfielder continues to hold a consistent position in left field and has a .250/.296/.414 slash line with 11 home runs, 42 RBIs, 27 runs scored, and seven steals over 78 games this season. Gurriel extended the Diamondbacks’ lead to 2-0 with a solo homer off Logan Webb. While Gurriel' slash line isn't particularly impressive, it's worth noting that he had a .181/.204/.343 line at the end of April.
Jorge Soler might rejoin the Angels this week.
The Angels sent Scott Kingery to the minors on Monday, but they have not announced a corresponding move yet. According to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register, Jorge Soler mentioned over the weekend that he was nearly ready to return, and he did accompany the team to Atlanta. This suggests Soler might be activated for the series; however, he is currently hitting .207/.280/.350 with eight home runs, 26 RBIs, and a 30 percent strikeout rate.
Yanquiel Fernández promoted to Major Leagues.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Yanquiel Fernández is expected to be called up from Triple-A Albuquerque. Patrick Lyons reported that Fernández will join the Rockies roster before Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros. The 22-year-old prospect boasts a .284/.347/.502 batting line with 13 home runs and 39 RBI over 64 games in Triple-A this season. Yanquiel has demonstrated significant power, having achieved two seasons with over 20 home runs in his minor league career. While he should enjoy hitting at Coors Field, some initial challenges are likely.
José Iglesias was benched on Monday.
José Iglesias was absent from the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies. Although he started in five of the last six games, gaining some consistency in the San Diego lineup recently, he still hasn't secured a spot as a regular player. After achieving an impressive .829 OPS with the Mets in 2024 — his highest in any season apart from the pandemic-shortened 2020 season — Iglesias has significantly declined at the plate with San Diego this season, hitting just .226/.294/.258 with no home runs in 179 plate appearances. He'll need to enhance his performance to strengthen his case for more consistent playing time as the season progresses.
Yoán Moncada appears prepared for rehab games.
According to MLB.com, Yoán Moncada has been assigned to the rookie-level Arizona Complex League Angels to start a rehab assignment. Although Moncada's recovery from inflammation in his right knee has taken longer than anticipated, he is now prepared to participate in games again. The experienced infielder is expected to progress to a higher minor-league affiliate as his rehab continues and could potentially return in early July.
