Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources.

Andy Pagés drives offense with two homers.

Andy Pagés had an impressive performance, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs in Monday's 7-0 victory over the Reds. He made the most of every plate appearance. His first two times at bat resulted in home runs—a solo homer in the third inning and a two-run homer in the fifth. In the sixth inning, he reached base on an error, allowing two additional runs to score, and he secured a fourth RBI with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Despite some challenges in August, where he's batting .235 (19-for-81) with four home runs and 11 RBIs in 23 games, he has maintained his playing time. Pagés currently holds a .273/.318/.466 slash line with 23 home runs, 75 RBIs, 60 runs scored, 21 doubles, and 13 stolen bases across 128 games this season.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit his 19th home run.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run, and three RBIs in Monday's 7-5 defeat against the Brewers. Gurriel hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning, marking his 19th home run and his fifth in the last 11 games. This was part of a five-run sixth inning for the Diamondbacks, who were slow to start offensively due to travel delays that caused them to arrive in Milwaukee early Monday morning. Gurriel has been consistently productive with runners on base this month, driving in 32 runs across 23 August games.

He has gathered 80 RBIs this season, only four shy of his career-high 84, which he reached in 2021 while playing for Toronto. Furthermore, his 80 RBIs are the highest among Cuban players this year.

Aroldis Chapman secures 25th save.

Aroldis Chapman secured the save in Monday's 4-3 victory against Baltimore, delivering a flawless ninth inning without any strikeouts. The All-Star left-hander's impressive season rolls on, having now achieved 13 straight scoreless outings. Chapman is arguably experiencing the best season of his remarkable career, posting a 1.06 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, and a 71:14 K:BB ratio over 51 innings. As Boston's closer, he has also successfully converted 25 out of 27 save opportunities.

Miguel Vargas achieved a game with multiple hits.

During the White Sox's 7-0 win against the Royals on Monday, Miguel Vargas achieved a multi-hit performance. He went 2-for-4, contributing his 30th double of the season and scoring a run. Over his last 15 games, he has notably improved his slash line to .281/.373/.421. This game marked his 30th multi-hit performance of the year and his 6th in August.

Yandy Díaz matches his career-high home run total.

Yandy Díaz went 2-for-5, hitting a solo home run and a double in Monday's 9-0 victory over Cleveland. He hit his 22nd homer of the season, matching the career high he achieved in the 2023 season. Yandy is batting .312 with 14 home runs, 40 RBIs, and 39 runs scored over his last 269 at-bats. His 137 hits are the highest among Cuban players in the Majors this year and also rank 16th overall in MLB in 2025.

Johan Oviedo excels in brief appearance.

Johan Oviedo pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five batters in a no-decision against St. Louis on Monday. Initially, it seemed like Oviedo might struggle when the first three batters of the second inning reached base, but he managed to escape with only one run allowed and finished his outing by retiring the last nine batters he faced. Despite his strong recovery, Pirates manager Don Kelly pulled Oviedo after four innings with just 53 pitches thrown (35 strikes). This decision was somewhat unexpected, considering Oviedo had thrown 75 pitches over five innings in his previous start. However, the team might be taking a cautious approach with him since he missed all of last season recovering from Tommy John surgery and several months earlier this year due to a lat injury. Oviedo is tentatively scheduled to make his next start on the road against the Red Sox.

Edgar Quero drives in a run.

Edgar Quero served as the designated hitter in the White Sox's 7-0 victory over the Royals on Monday. He recorded one hit in four at-bats, scoring a run and driving in another. Quero's only hit was his 15th double of the season to collects his RBI No. 35 in 2025. As a rookie, Quero is finishing 2025 on a high note, with a slash line of .324/.379/.514, including four home runs and 18 RBIs in his last 30 games. This year, he has participated in 84 games—61 as a catcher—and accumulated 301 plate appearances.

On Monday, Randy Arozarena had one hit.

The Marines secured a significant victory on Monday, defeating the Padres 9-6. During the game, Randy Arozarena went 1-for-5 and struck out three times. Despite having the highest HardHit% of his career in 2025 at 51.0, Arozarena also has his worst K% (26.7) in the past four years and is batting only .227, with just 9 of his 24 home runs this year coming off anything other than fastballs.

Jorge Soler is making positive progress.

Jorge Soler has received clearance to start swinging a bat and commence running and throwing exercises, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. Soler was added to the 10-day injured list on July 26 because of lower-back inflammation, and following a period of rest, he has resumed baseball activities. Although the team hasn't announced a specific timeline for his return, the fact that he's now hitting, running, and throwing suggests he might be back before the 2025 season concludes.

Lázaro Montes hits his 32nd home run on Saturday.

Seattle Mariners outfield prospect Lázaro Montes hit his fourth home run in as many games on Saturday while playing for Double-A Arkansas. During this period, he has also accumulated six RBIs and scored six runs. Currently ranked as the Mariners' third-best prospect, Montes has reached 32 home runs this season, tying for the lead in the minor leagues. Although his batting average is just .224 with a 30.7 percent strikeout rate over 46 games with Arkansas, he maintains an above-average walk rate of 13.1 percent to balance it out. At 20 years old, Montes needs to reduce his strikeout percentage, but his power is expected to be his ticket to the major leagues, potentially as soon as late next year or by 2027.
