Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources.
Raisel Iglesias stayed with the Braves after Thursday's trade deadline and marked the occasion by securing his 13th save of the season, closing out the Reds.
The 35-year-old right-hander had been a popular figure in trade rumors throughout the week, so it was undoubtedly a relief when he wasn't traded. Iglesias then took the mound with a one-run lead to safeguard in the 10th inning and ensured it remained intact by retiring the side in order, including striking out Spencer Steer. This season, he has a 4.74 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and a 48/10 K/BB ratio over 43 2/3 innings, successfully converting 13 of his first 18 save opportunities. Following a shaky season, Iglesias has now kept opponents scoreless in 19 of his last 21 outings.
Randy Arozarena, batting leadoff, had one hit.
This Thursday, Randy Arozarena was placed in the leadoff position to boost his opportunities of achieving the 30-home run milestone for the remainder of the season. During a 6-0 win by the Mariners over the Rangers, Arozarena recorded one hit in three at-bats and drew a walk. In July, he continued his performance from the prior month, posting a .268/.333/.639 batting line and hitting 11 of his 21 home runs this season.
The Padres obtained LHP Néstor Cortés, SS Jorge Quintana, and cash from the Milwaukee Brewers in return for OF Brandon Lockridge.
Néstor Cortés struck out nine and gave up one earned run over 5 2/3 innings in his rehab start this past weekend. This was intended to be his final rehab outing with the Brewers, so the Padres might activate him this weekend to replace Randy Vásquez in the rotation on Saturday. This move would be a favorable ballpark change for Cortés, who performed well during his rehab assignment.
Adolis García managed one hit in the Rangers' defeat.
During Thursday's 6-0 defeat against the Mariners, Adolis García managed a 1-for-4 performance. Despite numerous rumors regarding the potential trade of the strong Cuban outfielder, Adolis stayed with the Rangers. He holds a .227/.272/.393 slash line, with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs in 2025.
Yandy Díaz left the game following a hit by pitch.
Yandy Díaz was removed from Thursday's game against the Yankees in the fourth inning after being hit on the right forearm by a pitch. Initially, he remained in the game after being struck by a pitch from Marcus Stroman in the top of the first inning, but a pinch hitter replaced him during his next at-bat. Despite trade rumors surrounding the designated hitter, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that Díaz's exit was due to injury, not trade-related. The Rays are anticipated to offer more details on his condition post-game.
The White Sox did not trade Luis Robert Jr. before Thursday’s deadline.
Intriguing and somewhat unusual. As reported by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the White Sox are satisfied with Robert's performance and are leaning towards keeping the 27-year-old outfielder by opting to exercise his $20 million option for 2026 rather than trading him. This could be a strategic move, but for now, it seems more probable that Robert will stay in Chicago.
