  • MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. May 13, 2022 Raisel Iglesias hurled a scoreless ninth to pick up a save Friday against the Athletics. Iglesias didn't allow a hit, and he struck out one without issuing a walk. It's the eighth save of the year for the right-hander, and this marks the 12th time in 14 appearances that he hasn't allowed a run. He remains an elite closing option for a team that has looked among the best in baseball to begin 2022. Yordan Álvarez went 2-for-4 with his 11th homer and two RBI against the Nationals in Friday's win. Álvarez is suddenly all of the way up to .280/.381/.640 for the season. Expect him to remain one of the AL's best hitters all year long. Aledmys Díaz went 0-for-4 on Friday in his return to the Astros' lineup. Díaz was back at shortstop in place of injured rookie Jeremy Peña on Friday evening after missing nearly a week due to an undisclosed injury. He'll continue to fill-in temporarily at shortstop until Peña is ready to return. Rays' Randy Arozarena: Nabs sixth steal. Arozarena went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 5-2 win over the Blue Jays. Three of Arozarena's six steals on the year have come in the last nine games, but he otherwise is struggling to make an impact. The 27-year-old is slashing .218/.265/.339 on the season with one homer, nine RBI and 14 runs through 32 contests. Luis Robert added two hits Friday night, José Abreu went blank, and Yoán Moncada collected a single. Luis Robert went 2-for-4 with two runs on Friday night loss against the Yankees. The Cuban center fielder elevated his BA to .287 and is slashing .287/.323/.447 with 4 HR and 9 RBI for the season. On the other hand, first baseman José Abreu went 0-for-3 and a walk against Gerrit Cole and the Yankees bullpen. Abreu is hitting .202 for the year. The other Cuban in the White Sox's lineup for Friday's game was Yoán Moncada, whom looked really good defensively at third base, and went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts. Moncada, added to Chicago's active roster this week, is hitting .235. Yuli Gurriel delivered his first homer of the season Friday in a win over the Nationals. Gurriel, the AL batting champ a year ago, came into the night at just .198/.243/.307 on the season, so he was a little overdue. There's a decent chance he'll go back to being somewhat useful in mixed leagues, though at age 38, it's far from a given. Reds' Vladimir Gutiérrez: Moving to bullpen Manager David Bell said Friday that Gutiérrez will shift to a bullpen role, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Gutiérrez's first six starts of the season came as a starter, but he posted an 8.65 ERA and 1.96 WHIP in 26 innings while settling for an 0-5 record. The right-hander will presumably serve as a middle reliever out of the bullpen, while Connor Overton will remain in the rotation. Gutiérrez will likely be an option to serve as a spot starter at some point if needed. Rays manager Kevin Cash is hopeful that Yandy Díaz (illness) won't be sidelined for long. Díaz was scratched from Friday's lineup with a non-COVID illness. Cash said he's hopeful and optimistic that the infielder could be available as soon as Saturday. Either way, it doesn't sound like a long-term concern. Grandal didn't start Friday against the Yankees. Grandal has gone just 1-for-11 with two runs, three walks and five strikeouts over the last three games, and he got his first day off since April 22. Reese McGuire started behind the plate and batted ninth. Yadiel Hernández was out of the lineup for Friday's game versus Houston. Hernández started the past five games but took a seat after going 3-for-16 with a solo homer during that stretch. Lane Thomas was in left field.

  • MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. May 12, 2022 Yordan Álvarez homered twice in the Astros' 5-0 win over the Twins on Thursday. The Astros didn't need much offense on Thursday with Luis Garcia and the Houston bullpen blanking the Twins, but Álvarez provided more than enough. He gave the Astros a 2-0 lead in the third with a two-run blast off Josh Winder, and then took Cole Sands deep to provide some insurance in the ninth. The 24-year-old has socked 10 homers on the season thus far, and he improves his slash to .271/.377/.615. The designated hitter had been hitless in his previous four ball games, going 0-for-11 with five walks. As impressive as his 10 home runs and .992 OPS are, Alvarez's 17:20 BB:K ratio through 109 plate appearances represents a dramatic improvement over his career rate. Álvarez remains one of the best -- and most underrated -- young sluggers in the sport. Yennier Cano surrendered three runs over 2 1/3 innings Thursday in his major-league debut against the Astros. Cano took the mound Wednesday evening for the fourth inning in relief of Twins' starter Chris Archer, but didn't throw an actual pitch before play was suspended due to inclement weather. He retired six consecutive batters before Kyle Tucker launched a sixth-inning solo homer. He was charged with two more runs in the frame after his exit. Rays' Randy Arozarena: Records fifth steal Arozarena went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-2 extra-inning win over the Angels. The 27-year-old has yet to really get hot this season, but he's finding a way to contribute while trying to lock in his swing. Arozarena is slashing .223/.266/.347 on the season with one homer, five steals, nine RBI and 14 runs through 31 contests, though he is batting .273 (12-for-44) through 11 games in May. Yoán Moncada walloped a three-run homer Thursday in the White Sox' loss to the Yankees. Moncada launched a game-tying three-run homer to center field -- his first round-tripper of the season -- off Yankees' reliever Jonathan Loáisiga in the seventh inning. It was his lone hit in five at-bats in the high-scoring affair. Gurriel didn't start Thursday Gurriel didn't start Thursday's game against the Twins. Gurriel finished Wednesday's suspended game by going 1-for-5 with a run. Gurriel will get ready for the weekend series against the Nationals in DC. Astros manager Dusty Baker said Thursday that Aledmys Díaz is dealing with a nagging injury. Baker declined to comment further. So, there's that. Díaz exited Sunday's win over the Tigers for undisclosed reasons and has missed three consecutive games since then. We'll see.

  • MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. May 12, 2022 Aroldis Chapman allowed the first run of the season in Yankees 5-3 win over the Blue Jays Wednesday afternoon. Chapman was tasked with protecting a three-run advantage in the ninth inning. He allowed a leadoff double to Santiago Espinal and walked Vinny Capra to bring the tying run to the plate with nobody out. They pushed a run across on a sacrifice fly off the bat of George Springer, then Chapman battled back to strike out Bo Bichette and get Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on a pop out to second base to end it. Chapman has now converted each of his first eight save chances on the season while posting a 0.79 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. Adolis García went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Wednesday's loss to the Royals. García was unable to get anything going in this one. About par for the course this season, as the 29-year-old outfielder is hitting just .200/.262/.364 with four homers and 18 RBI across 110 at-bats. García offers plenty of pop -- he rocked 31 homers last season -- but his is a limited profile. Randy Arozarena went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-2 extra-inning win over the Angels. The 27-year-old has yet to get really hot, but he's finding a way to contribute while trying to lock in his swing. Arozarena is slashing .223/.266/.347 on the season with one homer, five steals, nine RBI and 14 runs through 31 contests, but he is batting .273 (12-for-44) through 11 games in May. High-A Winston-Salem placed Colás on its 7-day injured list Wednesday due to a wrist injury. According to Winston-Salem manager Lorenzo Bundy, the wrist issue had been bothering Colás since the 23-year-old last appeared in the lineup April 28. Bundy is optimistic that Colás will be ready to return early next week, so the outfielder doesn't look as though he's in danger of a long-term absence. Thus far during his first season in affiliated ball, Colás is slashing .301/.363/.479 with two home runs in 80 plate appearances. Vladimir Gutiérrez was hit hard in a no-decision against the Brewers on Wednesday, giving up four runs on six hits over his 4 2/3 innings of work. On the plus side, the right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the afternoon while issuing a pair of free passes. The Reds staked him to an early 7-0 lead through two innings and all he had to do was keep the train on the tracks to earn a victory, but he came up one out shy. Most of the damage came on a three-run blast by Christian Yelich in the third inning. Gutiérrez will carry a horrifying 8.65 ERA and 1.96 WHIP into Tuesday's matchup against the Guardians in Cleveland. Pedro León is hitting .243/.386/.485 across his first 127 plate appearances with Triple-A Sugar Land. León managed only a .033 ISO across 75 plate appearances with Sugar Land to end the 2021 season. While he's increased that mark to .243 in the new campaign, he is still striking out at a 32.3 percent clip. That type of performance isn't likely to earn him a promotion to the majors, but it is worth noting that León has played the majority of his games in center field. Chas McCormick is currently the primary center fielder in Houston, but he has just a .301 wOBA to go along with a .238/.286/.393 line. If León can show some increased contact ability in the coming weeks, he could still factor into the team's plans at the big-league level in 2022. Twins purchased the contract of RHP Yennier Cano from Triple-A St. Paul. It's the first trip to the big leagues for the 28-year-old hurler. The hard-throwing right-hander was off to a terrific start at Triple-A St. Paul, firing 12 scoreless innings with a 0.83 WHIP and 14/4 K/BB ratio. He'll add another weapon in the middle innings for the Twins bullpen.

  • MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. May 11, 2022 Yasmani Grandal is not in the White Sox starting lineup on Wednesday. It's probably a scheduled day of rest, though Grandal has been battling some minor leg soreness over the last couple of weeks. Reese McGuire is at catcher, José Abreu will DH, and Gavin Sheets is covering first base in Wednesday's matinee game against the visiting Guardians. Yoán Moncada is not in the White Sox lineup Wednesday versus the Guardians. Moncada is 2-for-8 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch in two games played since coming off the injured list on Monday. Josh Harrison will cover third base in Wednesday's matinee, with Leury Garcia handling second. Yennier Cano promoted to MLB by the Minnesota Twins May 10, 2022 Jorge Soler went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks. Soler got the Marlins off to a strong start with his two-run homer off Madison Bumgarner in the top of the first inning. The Marlins would score just one additional run over the remainder of the contest, though. While Soler has struggled to a .177/.273/.354 triple-slash in 30 games this season, he has shown off impressive long-ball pop, launching some out-and-out moonballs, including two homers in his last four games. Luis Robert went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in a 4-1 win Tuesday over Cleveland. Robert singled, stole a base and scored on Gavin Sheets' homer in the sixth inning. The stolen base was his sixth of the season and first since April 16. The 24-year-old has hit safely in nine straight games, going 15-for-37 with eight runs scored and raising his season average to .282. Gurriel went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Yankees. The 28-year-old snapped an 0-for-13 mini-slump with his two-bagger in the eighth inning, while the RBI ended a 13-game drought. Gurriel's swoon has dragged his slash line down to .243/.295/.369, and through 31 games he has a disappointing two homers, 11 RBI and 13 runs, with his two steals being the only category in which he's ahead of his usual pace. Yandy Díaz went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's loss to the Angels. Díaz was unable to get to Reid Detmers in this one, but the same goes for everybody in the Rays' lineup, as Detmers finished without allowing a hit. Through 27 games played this season, Díaz has posted a .275/.400/.374 triple-slash with two home runs and seven RBI. He has posted low double-digit homers two of the last three seasons but holds little overall intrigue. Adrián Morejón (elbow) allowed one earned run over three innings in his rehab debut Tuesday with Single-A Lake Elsinore. Morejón served up a solo homer but otherwise fared well, yielding just one other hit and no walks while striking out five in the 40-pitch start. A little over 12 months removed from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, the 23-year-old southpaw should be an option for the San Diego pitching staff sometime in early-to-mid June. Ibánez sat Tuesday against the Royals. Ibánez sat after starting four straight games and eight of the last nine. Brad Miller got the start at third base. May 9, 2022 Cortés didn't factor into the decision Monday against the Rangers after allowing one hit and walking four while striking out 11 over 7.1 scoreless innings. Cortés cruised through 7.1 frames before surrendering a hit, and he was removed from the contest immediately after with 103 pitches. It would end up to be a tough-luck no-decision for the right-hander, as the Yankees waited until the eighth inning to put the game's only run on the board. Cortés owns a sparkling 1.41 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with a 42:11 K:BB over 32 frames in 2022. Iglesias went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI on Monday against the Giants. Iglesias first contributed with a single in the fifth inning and came around to score on a Yonathan Daza single. He then doubled in the final frame to continue a Colorado rally, driving in Elias Diaz. Iglesias is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak, during which he's collected four RBI and four runs scored. He has also quietly maintained a .329/.382/.427 line across 89 plate appearances on the campaign. Chapman picked up the save Monday against the Rangers after allowing one hit in a scoreless inning. Chapman was able to hold off the Rangers in the ninth after New York took a 1-0 lead in the eighth, despite surrendering a two-out single to left. The flamethrower has yet to allow a run on the season and has given up just three hits and seven walks through 11 appearances (10.1 innings). Arozarena went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 11-3 loss to the Angels. He opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning by taking Noah Syndergaard deep, but the Angels immediately responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame, and the rout was on. The long ball was Arozarena's first of the year, but he's hit safely in nine of the last 10 games and boasts a .310/.341/.524 slash line over that stretch with a steal, five runs and five RBI.

  • MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. May 8, 2022 Aledmys Díaz hit a grand slam to help Houston to beat Detroit 5-0 on Sunday. Diaz's second home run of the season came in the third inning on a 92 mph fastball from Tigers reliever Drew Hutchison (0-3). It went .347 feet to left-center field, scoring José Altuve, Alex Bregman, and Yordan Álvarez for a 4-0 lead. It was Díaz's second Grand Slam of his career. Astros manager Dusty Baker told reporters that Aledmys Díaz left Sunday's victory over the Tigers due to "nagging stuff". Apparently he's been battling some minor injury issues for a while, so getting him out of Sunday's contest -- after he clubbed a grand slam -- was more of a maintenance thing than anything. He should still be considered day-to-day. José Abreu went 1-for-4 with a two-run double against the Red Sox on Sunday. With two runners on in the third inning, Abreu hit a double to left field off of Tanner Houck to bring both runners home and extend the White Sox lead. The 35-year-old first baseman is heating up at the plate after a slow start. He's slashing .240/.321/.385 with three homers across 109 plate appearances. Randy Arozarena went 1-for-3 with a walk in Sunday's loss to the Mariners. His only hit of the game came with two outs in the top of the sixth and no one was able to drive him in. The 27-year-old outfielder is 11-for-34 (.324) to begin the month of May. Grandal went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base during Sunday's 3-2 win over the Red Sox. The 33-year-old played at first base Sunday and reached three times in four plate appearances, and he also stole second base after walking during the eighth inning. It's the first stolen base since 2019 for Grandal, so he shouldn't be expected to run much more this year, if at all. The multi-hit game was Grandal's first of the campaign and will perhaps get his bat going after a slow start. White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Sunday that Yoan Moncada will be activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. Speaking to reporters Sunday, La Russa added that Moncada should be in the lineup and batting second for the White Sox on Monday against the Guardians. Moncada has been out since the start of the season with a right oblique strain. José Iglesias went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks. Both of his singles were hard hits, but the Rockies were unable to drive him in whenever he was on base. The veteran shortstop is slashing .308/.365/.385 across 85 plate appearances. Yandy Díaz was out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. The freshly activated Ji-Man Choi (elbow) stepped in at first base for Díaz, who had drawn starts at the position in each of the Rays' last six games. Though Choi is back in the fold, Díaz is expected to play on a near-everyday basis while bouncing between the two corner-infield spots. Taylor Walls appears to be at greater risk of losing out on regular playing time following Choi's return. Gurriel was out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers. Gurriel was not playing as a result of a planned rest day, as he had started in each of the Astros' last 10 games. Niko Goodrum will get the nod at first base in place of Gurriel, who went 6-for-37 during that 10-game stretch to drop his season average to .196. May 7, 2022 José Abreu went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and a run scored in Saturday's 3-1 victory over the Red Sox. After AJ Pollock was placed on second base in the top of the tenth, Abreu cranked a 107.7 mph, 322-foot double to center field off of Matt Barnes, giving the White Sox a lead that they wouldn't relinquish. The veteran first baseman has been a bit unlucky to begin the season, but with a hit in eight of his last nine games, it looks like things are starting to even out for him. Hernández went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run in 7-3 win against the Angels on Saturday. Hernández took Angels starter Michael Lorenzen deep in the second inning and later tacked on a walk and run in the fourth. The 34-year-old has been scorching of late, going 13-for-25 with four doubles and a home run in his last six games, and he is now slashing .371/.400/.557 on the season. Jorge Soler blasted a grand slam on Saturday night, propelling the Marlins to an 8-0 victory over the Padres. Soler put the icing on the victory for the Marlins in this one, launching the first pitch that he saw from Ray Kerr in the ninth inning for a 405-foot grand slam to make it an 8-0 game. He also doubled in the contest, finishing the night 2-for-5. His bat has picked it up a little, but he's still hitting just .178/.284/.347 with four homers and 12 RBI on the season.

  • MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. May 6, 2022 Randy Arozarena went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI to help the Rays win 8-7 over the Mariners on Friday. Arozarena had an excellent game at the plate on Friday, collecting four hits against Seattle. With a runner in scoring position in the second inning, he singled off of Logan Gilbert to drive in a run. He doubled in his next plate appearance before scoring on a base hit. The 27-year-old outfielder collected two more hits and scored on a three-run homer by Manuel Margot in the ninth inning. The four-hit game brings Arozarena's season line to .233/.269/.350 with four steals as he searches for his first home run. Yandy Díaz had a good night against the Mariners. Yandi Díaz, batting lead-off, went 2-for-5, a run, and a RBI on Friday's Tampa 8-7 win over the Mariners. Díaz BA continues to stay healthy and over the .300 mark during the month of May. The Cuban infielder is slashing .308/.438/. 423 this year. Raisel Iglesias worked a perfect ninth with a three-run lead for his seventh save Friday against the Nationals. Iglesias bounced back well from his first bad outing of the year and went without allowing a run for the 10th time in 12 appearances. After throwing just six pitches tonight, he'll be available again on Saturday. Aroldis Chapman with no action until Sunday. With Friday and Saturday's Yankees games postponed against the Rangers, it will be a long rest for the Cuban closer who doesn't see action since May 1 against Kansas City. Yankees and Rangers will play a double-header Sunday afternoon starting at 2 pm (ET). Luis Robert homered, José Abreu went 1-for4, and Yasmani Grandal went hitless on a 4-2 win against the Red Sox. Robert launched a two-run homer off Nathan Eovaldi in the top of the third inning, to make it a 3-0 lead for the White Sox. Robert went 1-for-4, his homer, a walk, and a strikeout. Robert has four homers and five steals in his 17 games this season. Abreu also went 1-for-4 adding a RBI in the 3rd inning to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead. On the other hand, Grandal went 0-for-2 with two walks, and two strikeouts. Yordan Álvarez and Yuli Gurriel went blank on Friday night. The two Astros' hitters went a combined 0-for-7 with two strikeouts - one each -, a walk - Álvarez, and 10 runners left on base, in a 3-2 win against the Tigers on Friday night. Álvarez is having a great start of the season compiling a .269 BA with 8 HR, and 15 RBI, while Gurriel is trying to improve his slow start this year that has him with a slash line of .202/.237/.326, no homers and only 5 RBI. Guillermo Heredia hit-less on Friday against the Brewers. Heredia went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Braves' 6-3 loss to the Brewers on Friday night. Heredia - a utility outfielder for the current champions -, shows a terrible slash line of .121/.216/.333 that compensates with his excellent defense skills in center field. Yadiel Hernández took a day off Friday night. The Cuban outfielder took a day off on Friday night's matchup against lefthanded Jonathan Díaz and the Angels. Hernández has 5 straight multi-hit games, tied for the longest streak in MLB this season, and just 3 shy of the franchise record. (2005-present) Jorge Soler wasn't in the Marlins starting lineup for Friday' game against the Padres. It's nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 30-year-old slugger. Jon Berti started in his place in left field and batted sixth for the Marlins on Friday. Soler is off to a slow start with his new club, slashing .167/.273/.302 with three homers, eight RBI and a 32/13 K/BB ratio over 25 games.

  • MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. May 4, 2022 José Abreu popped a solo homer and scored a couple runs Wednesday as the White Sox downed the Cubs. Kyle Hendricks retired the first two batters of the game but then served up Abreu's third dinger of the season. Abreu also added a single and an additional run scored. The slugger has been stinging the ball this season without much to show for it. That is due to change. Randy Arozarena went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored as the Rays triumphed over the Athletics in Oakland on Wednesday afternoon. Arozarena lined a one-out double to right-center off of Frankie Montas in the sixth inning. He then swiped third base but was ultimately stranded there. He then worked a two-out walk in the eighth inning and came around to score on Manuel Margot's go-ahead two-run single later in the frame. It has been a slow start offensively for the outfielder, slashing just .213/.253/.330 with no homers, six RBI, and four stolen bases in his first 24 games. Néstor Cortés took the loss against Toronto. Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-4 Cortés had walked three batters all season coming into this one, but he struggled with his control against the Jays. None of the free passes wound up scoring, but it helped result in 83 pitches over four innings and the left-hander' shortest outing of the season. Cortés will face Toronto again in his next start, with that one coming at home. In the game for Toronto, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. - batting cleanup - went 1-for-4 adding his 7th double of the season. Gurriel's BA is now .274. Vladimir Gutiérrez had another clunker Wednesday in Milwaukee, yielding seven runs over 4 1/3 frames. Once again, nothing went right for Gutiérrez. The right-hander permitted eight hits -- including a couple home runs -- over his 4 1/3 innings while also walking two and hitting two batters. Gutiérrez keeps getting worse with each start and would seem to be in serious danger of a demotion. If the Reds choose to roll him out there again, he'll probably get a rematch with the Brewers next. Guillermo Heredia hit a two-run homer and walked against the Mets on Wednesday. Heredia giveth and taketh away, having robbed Jeff McNeil of at least a double on a great catch at the wall in right field today. Not bad for a guy who was a late insertion into the lineup because Travis Demeritte was tired after playing 18 innings Tuesday. Manager Tony La Russa said Wednesday that Moncada (oblique) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Monday. The 26-year-old has appeared in three games with Triple-A Charlotte since beginning his rehab assignment Saturday, and he'll apparently have a full week in the minors to get back up to speed. The oblique strain has sidelined Moncada for the first month of the season, but he's on track to make his season debut Monday versus the Guardians.

  • MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. May 3, 2022 Yadiel Hernández went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Tuesday's win over the Rockies. Hernández is having a tremendous start to the year for the Nationals. The 34-year-old outfielder went 3-for-5 with a two-run double in the seventh inning for his 9th multi-hit game of the season, lifting his BA to .362. This year in 16 games Hernández has 14 RBI and is slashing a really nice .362/.387/.534 for the Nats. Abreu and Grandal combined 1-for-6 against the Cubs. Abreu went 0-for-3 and, walked and GIDP once, while Grandal went 1-for-3 and a walk on Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Cubs. Abreu, as usual, is struggling at the beginning of the season showing a slash line of .215/.319/.329 with 2 HR and 7 RBI. Adolis García hitless against the Phillies. García went 0-for-5 with a run, a strikeout, and 4 runners left on base in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Phillies. García, who last year broke single-season franchise records for a rookie with 31 HR and 90 RBI, is focused on his patience and discipline at the plate in what could be his first 162-games season. Álvarez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, and an additional run in Tuesday's 4-0 victory over the Mariners. Álvarez launched a 435-foot bomb to center off Seattle starter Chris Flexen in the fourth inning and walked and scored in the sixth. The 24-year-old has been on a power surge of late with four home runs in his last five games to put him one off the MLB lead with eight. He has bumped his slugging from .510 to .647 in the process. Jorge Soler was 1-for-3 against the DBacks. Soler added a walk and no RBI, leaving two runners on bases in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the DBacks. Soler BA is only .182, but has produced 2 HR and 5 RBI in the last 7 games for the Marlins. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had no hits on Tuesday against the Yankees. Gurriel Jr. went 0-for-4 with a strikeout against the Yankees on Tuesday, and once again didn't look good defensively in left field. In the seventh inning, Gurriel Jr. missed a diving catch on a Josh Donaldson double that gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead, and sparkled the Yankees offense in a 9-1 win for New York. Ibánez was out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies. Ibánez was 5-for-11 with two walks, two runs, and two stolen bases while starting the past four games, but he took a seat Tuesday despite the fact left-hander Ranger Suárez was pitching for Philadelphia. Luis Robert was not in the White Sox starting lineup on Tuesday. Robert went 3-for-4 with a run scored on Monday afternoon against the Angels, but he grabbed some pine at the outset of Tuesday night's series opener versus the Cubs.

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. May 2, 2022 Luis Robert went 3-for-4 and scored a run as the White Sox triumphed over the Angels 3-0 on Monday afternoon in Chicago. Robert singled off of Patrick Sandoval in the opening inning and came around to score the White Sox second run of the frame on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jake Burger. He added another pair of singles and a strike out before the day was through. With the three-hit attack, he's now slashing .246/.258/.426 with three homers, six RBI and five stolen bases on the season. José Abreu went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored as the White Sox topped the Angels on Monday afternoon. Abreu led off the sixth inning with a single off of Patrick Sandoval then hustled all the way around to score on a two-out double off the bat of Adam Engel. He's off to a slow start offensively through the first month of the season, slashing just .224/.322/.342 with a pair of homers, seven RBI and a 17/9 K/BB ratio through his first 21 games. Vladimir Gutiérrez is scheduled to make his next start Wednesday against the Brewers in Milwaukee. Gutiérrez was initially lined up to start the series opener in Milwaukee on Tuesday, but an off day Monday allowed the Reds to reorder their pitching schedule. As a result, Tyler Mahle will move to the front of the order and start Tuesday, setting him up to make a second turn Sunday against Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, Gutiérrez will be limited to the one start Wednesday for this week. Yordan Álvarez hit a solo homer in Monday's win over the Mariners. Álvarez went 1-for-3 with his seventh HR of the year and 13 RBI, to help the Astros to a 3-0 win over the Mariners. The Astros, wearing their Space City uniforms, saw how Álvarez opened Houston's fourth with his solo shot off LHP Marco González, to put the Astros 1-0 up. He also drew a walk, and the slugger is now slashing .262/.360/.615. The Cuban outfielder has 3 HR over his last 4 games. In the game, Yuli Gurriel went 1-for-4 adding his 10th double of the year. Aledmis Díaz was out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners. With Jose Altuve (hamstring) returning from the 10-day injured list Monday and reclaiming his spot as the Astros' everyday second baseman, Díaz's playing time is likely to take a substantial hit. He had been filling in at the position for the past two weeks along with Niko Goodrum, with Díaz starting in eight of the 12 games that Altuve missed. Díaz's versatility gives him some other avenues to at-bats, but with all of the Astros' key position players at full strength, the 31-year-old will only pick up starts when one of the regulars requires a breather. Yandy Díaz homered and scored two runs Monday in a victory over the Athletics. Díaz, 30, gave the Rays an early lead with a leadoff homer off of Daulton Jefferies. He also singled and came around to score on an error in the third. In 19 games with the Rays, Díaz is now slashing a very respectable .306/.442/.335 with two homes and five runs driven in. Mets right-hander Yoan López was handed a three-game suspension on Monday for intentionally throwing at Kyle Schwarber during Sunday's victory over the Phillies. López tried to hit Schwarber -- twice unsuccessfully -- in the ninth inning as retaliation for Francisco Lindor getting plunked earlier in the ballgame. He was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday night, so he'll need to serve that suspension once he makes his way back to the big leagues. Mets manager Buck Showalter was also given a one-game ban. Michel Báez (elbow) began a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Single-A Lake Elsinore. Báez tossed a pair of scoreless innings Saturday in his rehab assignment debut for Single-A Lake Elsinore. The 26-year-old righty didn't allow a baserunner and notched one strikeout. He hasn't appeared in the majors since August 29, 2020 due to injuries. He underwent Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery last March. Moncada (oblique) has gone 3-for-7 with a home run, two strikeouts and a walk across two games during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte. Moncada appears to be nearing full strength, as he attempted a stolen base Saturday and proceeded to slug a home run Sunday. Most importantly, all indications are that he's had no setbacks with his oblique to this point, as manager Tony La Russa reported that the infielder was able to move freely without discomfort, per Joey Pollizze of MLB.com. The team has yet to announce the date when Moncada will make his season debut, though the White Sox begin a series against the Cubs on Tuesday that could include his return if he continues on the same track.

  • MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. May 1, 2022 Chapman allowed one hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning while earning a save over the Royals on Sunday. Chapman gave up a single and a walk with two outs in the ninth but escaped with his sixth save in as many chances. The veteran southpaw has a lackluster 11:7 K:BB but has yet to give up a run through 9.1 innings this season. He's recorded a save in five of his last six appearances. García went 3-for-5 with a triple, four RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's 7-3 win over Atlanta. García broke open the game, clearing the loaded bases with a triple in Texas' four-run third inning. The outfielder hasn't entirely scrapped the patient approach he showed early in the season, but he has been more aggressive, which works for García. He's tallied five extra-base hits with 11 RBI over the past seven games. Ibáñez batted seventh and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 7-3 win over Atlanta. Ibáñez started at designated hitter while Charlie Culberson served as the third baseman against a left-hander. Ibáñez has hit safely in six consecutive games to go with his second stolen base in as many contests. Alemdis Díaz went-2-for-4 on Sunday's 3-2 loss against the Blue Jays. Aledmis batted in the third spot and went 2-for-4 with his fourth RBI of the season, Sunday afternoon against the Blue Jays. Díaz lifted his BA to .185, in a game where his teammates, Yordan Álvarez and Yuli Gurriel went hit-less going a combined 0-for-8. Precisely in the game there was a sweet moment, when the Gurriel brothers - Lourdes Jr. and Yuli - exchanged lineup cards before the game. Hernández went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, two runs and five RBI in Sunday's 11-5 victory against the Giants. Hernández had perhaps the best game of his short career Sunday, reaching base four times and knocking a bases-loaded double in the eighth after San Francisco got the lead down to three. The 34-year-old has been thriving on the strong side of a platoon in left field as he's slashing .340/.368/.509 with six doubles and 12 RBI in 15 games. Díaz was out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. Díaz looks to be getting a routine maintenance day after starting each of the past six games while going 6-for-17 with a home run, seven walks and three runs over that stretch. Harold Ramirez filled in at first base in the series finale against Minnesota, but Díaz should have a clear path to a full-time role at either corner-infield spot for at least the next week after Ji-Man Choi (elbow) was placed on the injured list Sunday. Mets optioned RHP Yoan López to Triple-A Syracuse. López was called up by the Mets ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Phillies, and he allowed two runs on a hit and no walks while striking out one in one inning during the win. Since the Mets are required to cut their active roster down to 26 players by Monday, the right-hander will head back to Syracuse following his brief stint in the majors. Apr 30, 2022 Luis Robert went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's win over the Angels. Following a Josh Harrison double and a Tim Anderson single, Robert hit a 104.4 mph home run to right-center field in the bottom of the fifth. Despite striking out a career-low rate (14.3%), Robert is slashing .192/.208/.404 with three home runs and five steals through 52 at-bats. He's a fine buy-low target in all formats. Chapman saved Saturday's 3-0 win over the Royals, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Chapman came on in the ninth to protect a 3-0 lead and made quick work of the three Royals he faced, firing seven of 11 pitches for strikes in the process. The 34-year-old still is yet to surrender a run through 8.1 innings while allowing eight baserunners and punching out 11 batters. Yoán Moncada (oblique) went 1-for-3 in his initial rehab start for Triple-A Charlotte. This was the first game for Moncada after an oblique injury that put him on the injured list before the start of the season. He had no reported issues during the game and barring any setbacks, he should be back in the White Sox lineup by mid-May. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 2-for-4 with a double in Saturday's win over the Astros. Trying to help pad the lead in the bottom of the eighth, Gurriel Jr. hit a 104.4 mph two-out double off of Ryne Stanek, but he was left stranded at second base. The 28-year-old outfielder is slashing .288/.330/.438 with two home runs and a stolen base through 22 games. Yordan Álvarez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to the Blue Jays. Leading off the top of the fourth, Yordan crushed a 113.1 mph home run off of Jose Berrios -- his sixth home run of the season. The 24-year-old slugger extended his hit streak to seven games with this performance.

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 30, 2022 Giants released LHP Darién Núñez. Núñez will head to free agency just a few days after being claimed off release waivers by the Giants from the division-rival Dodgers. The 29-year-old left-hander made six relief appearances last year at the major-league level. He's expected to miss the remainder of the 2022 campaign and be sidelined for a portion of the 2023 season as well. Nationals signed SS Alfredo Rodriguez to a minor league contract. Rodriguez will provide the Nationals with some organizational infield depth this season. The 27-year-old shortstop hit .283/.333/.354 with three homers and two stolen bases across 453 plate appearances last year at Triple-A Louisville in the Reds' minor-league system. Apr 29, 2022 Yordan Álvarez went 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and a walk Friday as the Astros topped the Blue Jays 11-7. Álvarez is 9-for-18 with two homers and a 3/4 K/BB ratio in his last five games, raising his average from .158 to .273 and his OPS from .659 to .947. He should settle in as one of the AL's best hitters the rest of the way. Néstor Cortés gave up one earned run over five innings in Friday's win over the Royals. He also gave up eight hits and struck out three. After Salvador Pérez hit an RBI double off of Cortés in the bottom of the first, Cortés allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the second following a passed ball by Kyle Higashioka. The crafty southpaw has a sparkling 1.31 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 28/3 K/BB through 20 2/3 innings. Next up is a Wednesday night away matchup against the Blue Jays. Yuli Gurriel went -3-for-5 on Friday against the Blue Jays. Gurriel crushed his second double of the season off starter Kikuchi, and had his fourth RBI of the year. He also struck-out once. The 37-year-old first baseman is now hitting .234/.246/.375 for the year. Raisel Iglesias got a two-out save Friday against the White Sox. It's the night of one- and two-out saves. Iglesias got his after Mike Mayers allowed a single in a four-run game in the ninth. He's pitched on back-to-back days now, so he probably won't be available Saturday. In truth, the Angels could be lacking most of their best relievers tomorrow, so having rain in the forecast could work out for them. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-3 in a 11-7 loss to the Astros on Friday night. The younger Gurriel went 1-for-3 with a run. He also walked batting in the cleanup spot for the Jays. Gurriel Jr. is .276/.321/.421 for the season with 2 HR and 10 RBI. Yandy Díaz and Randy Arozarena in opposing nights. Díaz went 2-for-4 against the Twins on Friday night. He also had his fourth RBI of the season and scored a run. Díaz is slashing .309/.441/.400 for the Rays this year. On the other hand, Arozarena had a bad night going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and a walk. The Cuban outfielder is having a difficult start to the season, his slash line is .192/.234/.274 and have no homers, 4 RBI, and 3 steals. José Iglesias hitting streak continues. Iglesias hitting streak continues. On Friday night the Cuban shortstop went 2-for-5 in a 10-4 win against the Reds. Iglesias added his 4th double of the season and his fourth RBI. Las night was his fourth consecutive hitting game. Since he arrived in Colorado to replace Trevor Story Iglesias is slashing .339/.383/.411. Jorge Soler hit a 468-foot homer off the Mariners' Matt Brash on Friday. Soler hit some balls hard Thursday, but he went unrewarded. Tonight, he absolutely crushed a fastball right down the middle; it left the bat at 117.6 mph for the second hardest-hit ball of his career. He also drew a walk in the contest. Luis Robert went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Friday in his return to the White Sox' lineup. Robert may require a few games to ramp back up after missing six consecutive contests due to a strained groin. The 24-year-old outfielder holds an underwhelming .188/.204/.354 triple-slash line with seven runs scored, two home runs, three RBI and five stolen bases across 49 plate appearances. Adolis García hit HR#4 of the year and Andy Ibáñez added two singles. Adolis García went 1-for-4 Friday night in a 6-3 loss against the Braves. His only hit was his 4th home run of the year adding two RBI. He also scored a run. The Texas's center fielder also misplayed a line drive in the top of the third inning for an inside-the-park homer. García's BA is .203 for the year but has 14 RBI and a .419 SLG. In the same game, Texas' third baseman Andy Ibáñez went 2-for-3 lifting his BA to .255 for the season.

  • MLB 2022 | Cuban Players News

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Apr 29, 2022 White Sox's Luis Robert: Could return today Manager Tony La Russa is hopeful that Robert (groin) will return to the lineup today against the Angels. Robert was out of the lineup for a sixth consecutive matchup Thursday against the Royals, but he participated in pregame warmups and looked good. The White Sox have remained insistent that Robert is day-to-day, and he seems to be trending toward a Friday return. Apr 28, 2022 Raisel Iglesias fired a scoreless ninth inning Thursday, protecting a three-run lead against the Guardians to record his fifth save of the season. Iglesias surrendered a leadoff single to José Ramírez, but managed to settle down quickly by striking out Owen Miller after a nine-pitch battle before coaxing a game-ending double-play ball off the bat of Josh Naylor to preserve the victory. The 32-year-old righty has converted all five of his save opportunities this season and holds a stellar 1.04 ERA, 0.35 WHIP and 11/0 K/BB ratio across 8 2/3 innings (nine appearances). José Iglesias had another hit game. Iglesias extended to three his consecutive hits games collecting a single on Thursday. The Cuban shortstop is now hitting .333 for the season and .391 during his last seven games. On Wednesday night Iglesias had his second four hits game of the year. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. scored decisive run. Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-4 against the Red Sox on Thursday afternoon, scoring the only run of the game in the third inning. Toronto ended up beating Boston 1-0. Gurriel is hitting .274 for the season with 2 homers and 10 RBI. José Abreu and Yasmani Grandal had one hit each in a 5-2 loss against the Royals. Abreu went 1-for-4 with a strikeout while Grandal - as a DH hitter - was 1-for-3 and struck-out once. Chicago, one of the huge favorites to the 2022 postseason can't find its rhythm and is now placed third in the AL Central with a poor 7-11 record. Yordan Álvarez went 1-for-4 versus the Rangers. Yordan had an RBI and went 1-for-4 against the Rangers on Thursday afternoon. His BA is .235 for the season, even when he has been a different hitter during the last seven games, collecting 7 hits and a better .269 BA. Jorge Soler went 0-for-4 as the Marlins' No. 3 hitter Thursday against the Nationals. It's the Marlins' big free agent additions that are holding them back right now, as Soler has a .546 OPS and Avisail Garcia is at .464. Soler actually hit two balls really hard today, but he was denied both times (Statcast had the expected averages of those shots at .850 and .670). Things will get better eventually. Astros' Aledmys Díaz: Primary replacement for Altuve. Díaz started at second base and batted sixth in Thursday's game against the Rangers. He went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. Díaz started at the keystone for the fourth time in five games and appears to the preferred option at the position over Niko Goodrum while Jose Altuve (hamstring) is on the injured list. Astros general manager James Click said that Altuve is expected to be activated ahead of Monday's game against the Mariners, so Díaz's time as a near-everyday player should soon come to an end. Randy Arozarena didn't start on Thursday. Arozarena didn't start Thursday against the Mariners. Arozarena got his first day off since April 11 after he went 2-for-19 with three runs, a stolen base, a walk and seven strikeouts in his last five appearances. Harold Ramirez served as the designated hitter and batted fifth. Yuli Gurriel struggles continues. Gurriel went 0-for-4 and a strikeout on Thursday against the Rangers. His BA is now .203 for the season. Luis Robert (groin) was out of the White Sox lineup again on Thursday. Robert has now been missing for a full week with a tweaked groin, but it's an encouraging sign for a weekend return that he has yet to be placed on the injured list. Andrew Vaughn, AJ Pollock, and Gavin Sheets are starting across the outfield for Chicago on Thursday afternoon against the Royals.
