Miguel Vargas hit a Grand Slam but later left the game due to an injury and was diagnosed with a wrist contusion.
Miguel Vargas left Thursday's game against the Yankees due to a suspected injury to his left wrist, as reported by Scott Merkin of MLB.com. Vargas was subsequently diagnosed with a contusion on his left wrist. The injury occurred when Vargas tried to catch an off-target throw at first base and collided with Aaron Judge, causing his wrist to bend backward. He stayed down on the field, appearing to have suffered a potentially serious injury.
Prior to leaving the game, Vargas tagged Yankees’ right-hander Will Warren for the game-tying, 401-foot (106.6 mph EV) four-run blast in the second inning. He ended the game 1-for-3.
Yanquiel Fernández hits his second career home run.
Yanquiel Fernández had a perfect 2-for-2 performance, including a solo home run, on Thursday against the Astros. Since late July, Yanquiel has seen limited playing time, typically starting just one out of every three games. He was included in the lineup for the first time in four games on Thursday and made the most of it by hitting a solo home run in the fifth inning, marking the second of his career. Fernandez has a .621 OPS in his initial 87 plate appearances, but the irregular playing time probably isn't aiding him in establishing a rhythm at the plate.
On Thursday, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. collected three hits.
On Thursday, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 3-for-4 in the D-backs' 6-4 win over the Brewers. Gurriel also drew a walk and scored twice. This multi-hit performance improved his season slash line to .249/.297/.421, as he continues to pursue personal bests in hits (144 in 2023), home runs (24 in 2023), and RBIs (84 in 2021). Currently, he has 122 hits, 19 home runs, and 80 RBIs over 125 games and 535 plate appearances. Over his last 15 games, he is slashing .291/.339/.582 with 5 home runs and 21 RBIs.
Edgar Quero did not get a hit in the defeat against the Yankees.
In Thursday's 10-4 defeat against the Yankees, Edgar Quero went 0-for-4, reached base once due to an error, drew a walk, and struck out once. Serving as the designated hitter for the White Sox, Quero experienced his second hitless game in the past three outings. Despite this, he has been performing well in August, posting a .290/.323/.371 line with a home run and 9 RBIs. In his rookie season, he has achieved a .282/.345/.379 line with 4 home runs, 24 runs scored, 35 RBIs, and 25 walks.
Yordan Álvarez got the day off Thursday.
Yordan Álvarez was out of the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Rockies. Yordan started in both of the past two days upon his return from the 60-day injured list, but he got a breather for Thursday's matinee. He came into the game as a pinch hitter for Ramón Urias in the 8th inning and drew a walk. In 32 games in 2025, Yordan has a slash line of .212/.331/.365, hitting 4 home runs and driving in 20 RBIs.
