Raisel Iglesias recorded his 15th save of the season when he tossed a scoreless ninth inning in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the White Sox.
Iglesias was in line for a rest day with the Angels up 4-0 in the eighth inning, but the White Sox would score one on a wild pitch in the top of the frame to give the veteran reliever a chance at the subsequent save. He recorded the first two outs of the ninth inning without issue before issuing a walk to Seby Zavala, but made sure that the free pass did not blossom into a late rally, finishing off the White Sox with a strikeout of Tim Anderson. With the scoreless ninth, Iglesias improved to 15-of-17 in save chances this season to pair with a 3.62 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 40/5 K/BB ratio across 27 1/3 innings.
José Abreu went 4-for-4 with a quartet of singles in Wednesday's loss to the Angels.
The White Sox were kept completely off-balance by Shohei Ohtani on Wednesday, but Abreu was not phased, putting together a perfect game at the dish in a contest where his team managed just seven total hits. Abreu has now picked up a scalding seven hits over his last nine at-bats. The veteran slugger is slashing .284/.375/.451 with nine homers and 35 RBI in 72 games this season.
Yadiel Hernández hit a solo home run and an RBI double Wednesday versus the Pirates.
One day after coming off the bench to drive in the go-ahead runs, Hernández started in left field Wednesday and had another nice day. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as Bryan Reynolds and the Pirates outslugged the Nationals. Hernández went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, and two RBI on Wednesday against the Pirates. Hernández began his productive day with an RBI double in the fifth inning and followed that up with a solo homer two frames later. He has shown some pop of late, collecting at least one extra-base hit in each of his last three games. Overall, Hernández has maintained a .276 average with five home runs and 31 RBI across 211 plate appearances this season.
Rays' Randy Arozarena: Another pair of steals. Arozarena went 0-for-2 with two walks, two stolen bases and a run scored Wednesday against the Brewers. Arozarenza has gotten aggressive on the basepaths of late, swiping five bags across his last three starts. He now has 17 stolen bases on the campaign and could surpass his career-high mark of 20 by the All-Star break. While he's been caught six times, Arozarena has also increased his efficiency on the basepaths and is likely to continue to get the green light as a result.
Yordan Álvarez is currently being evaluated for a concussion after a nasty collision with teammate Jeremy Peña during Wednesday's game.
That's the only update that manager Dusty Baker was able to provide after the game, noting that the club would provide more information on Thursday. Álvarez took an elbow to the face during the collision and stayed down on the ground for a few minutes before eventually rising to his feet. Astros fans and fantasy managers can only wait and hope for the best.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the team is "probably leaning more towards Friday" for Aroldis Chapman's activation.
That will allow Chapman to skip the travel involved for Thursday's makeup game in Houston. He can instead simply meet the Yanks in Cleveland on Friday. Recovered from a bout of left Achilles tendinitis, he struck out two of the three batters he faced in his final rehab tuneup Tuesday at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Note: Clay Holmes is expected to keep the closer role for New York even when Chapman returns to the mix.
Jorge Soler was a late scratch from the Marlins starting lineup on Wednesday night against the Cardinals due to back discomfort.
The scratch was so late in fact, that it's unclear if there was actually an announcement about the change before the game started. When Soler was supposed to bat in the first inning though, Jesus Sanchez strolled to the plate in his place. The back issue has bothered Soler off and on throughout the season, so it's more of a day-to-day situation as opposed to something that would land him on the injured list.
