Lourdes Gurriel Jr. delivers go-ahead runs.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-4 with three RBI in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Guardians.
Gurriel knocked in a run on a groundout in the fourth inning and then singled home a pair in the seventh to give the Diamondbacks a 6-4 lead. He's hit safely in six straight contests while producing 10 RBI over that span. Gurriel owns a .247/.296/.410 slash line with 16 home runs, 69 RBI, a career-high 10 steals and 44 runs scored over 117 games.
Raisel Iglesias collects 20th save of the year.
Raisel Iglesias picked up the save in Tuesday's 11-10 win over the White Sox, throwing a clean ninth inning with no strikeouts. The 35-year-old right-hander made it look easy in this one, getting Miguel Vargas on a line drive to left field, Kyle Teel on a liner to center and Lenyn Sosa on a fly out to center — needing only nine pitches (seven strikes) to put the White Sox to bed. The veteran right-hander had briefly lost his grip on the closer job at one point amid a dismal start to the campaign -- he had a 6.75 ERA through June 5 -- but he's been well back on track for over two months now. Over his last 28.2 innings, Iglesias boasts a 1.57 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 32:4 K:BB.
Luis Robert Jr. drove in three on Tuesday.
Luis Robert Jr. recorded a hit in four at-bats, including a double, a strikeout, and three RBIs, during the White Sox's 11-10 loss to the Mariners on Tuesday. Robert contributed his RBI in the fifth inning when the White Sox scored five runs. He doubled to left field with the bases loaded, bringing all runners home. With this three-RBI performance, the energetic 28-year-old outfielder now holds a batting line of .219/.298/.360, with 13 home runs, 52 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases for the season.
Miguel Vargas scores three times.
Miguel Vargas went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, one RBI and three runs scored Tuesday against Atlanta. Vargas has started all seven games since returning from the injured list, with Tuesday marking his third multi-hit effort in that span. He also extended his hitting streak to five games, during which he's gone 8-for-21 with an RBI, two doubles and four runs scored.
Randy Arozarena hits a double in defeat.
In the Mariners' 6-4 defeat against the Phillies, Randy Arozarena managed to go 1-for-4. His sole hit marked his 25th double of the season. Additionally, he recorded his 59th RBI, scored a run, and drew a walk. Arozarena' season stats feature a slash line of .243/.344/.447, along with 23 home runs and 24 stolen bases.
Aroldis Chapman with scoreless innings, Yennier Cano earned the win.
In the Red Sox's 4-3 extra-inning defeat to the Orioles, both Aroldis Chapman (Red Sox) and Yennier Cano (Orioles) delivered scoreless performances. Chapman successfully navigated the tenth inning, allowing one walk but striking out three batters to maintain a 3-3 tie and reduce his ERA to 1.13 for the season.
On the Orioles' side, Yennier Cano also pitched the tenth inning, issuing a walk but not allowing any hits or strikeouts, and escaping bases loaded to secure the win when the Orioles scored in the top of the 11th inning. Chapman is having an outstanding season with 22 saves and an impressive 0.73 WHIP, while Cano has faced challenges this year, with a 5.14 ERA, a 2-6 record, one save, 17 holds, and a .272 opponent batting average.
Andy Pagés had one hit in the game, while Yanquiel Fernández went hitless.
Andy Pagés had one hit in five at-bats on Tuesday during the Dodgers' 11-4 victory over the Rockies. He scored a run and struck out once. In the same game, Yanquiel Fernández, playing for the Rockies, went hitless in two at-bats with two strikeouts while serving as the designated hitter and batting eighth. Pagés has enjoyed a breakout season with the defending World Series champions, while Yanquiel is working to establish a consistent role at the MLB level, making every game opportunity vital for him. Brighter days are anticipated for the 22-year-old in the future.
Adrián Morejón delivered a scoreless performance, while José Iglesias earned an RBI.
Adrián Morejón achieved his seventh consecutive scoreless performance following a challenging relief appearance on August 3, where he gave up three runs against the Cardinals. On Tuesday, he pitched a scoreless seventh inning in the Padres' 5-1 victory over the Giants. Morejón allowed one hit and struck out one batter, lowering his ERA to 1.88 for the season, with his nine wins being the most among relievers in 2025. In the same game, José Iglesias started for the Padres, batting eighth and playing second base, going 1-for-4 with one RBI and two strikeouts. It has been a tough season for Iglesias, who joined the Padres after an impressive 2024 with the Mets. He is hitting a disappointing .231/.307/.279 with 29 RBIs in 92 games and 280 plate appearances.
Johan Oviedo is set to start today.
Pirates interim manager Don Kelly said Tuesday that Johan Oviedo will be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Wednesday against the Blue Jays at PNC Park, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Oviedo should be given a chance to stake claim to a rotation spot for the remainder of the season. The right-hander lasted only one inning in a start earlier this month against the Giants, which was his first big-league outing since September 2023. Oviedo has pitched well in two starts at Indianapolis since then, however, yielding four runs (three earned) with a 15:3 K:BB across 8.2 frames.
The Braves sent RHP Daysbel Hernández to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Daysbel Hernández has been sent back to the minors so that Atlanta can call up a new bullpen pitcher. Daysbel has posted a 2.72 ERA over 36.1 innings this season, but his 33:30 strikeout-to-walk ratio is concerning. He will join Gwinnett as Atlanta brings in a new bullpen arm to replace him.
