Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources.

Luis Robert Jr. smacks 13th homer.

Luis Robert Jr. excelled during the last two weeks of July and the first week of this month. However, in his last eight games, he went 4-for-28 with one RBI, leading to his placement in the sixth spot of the White Sox lineup on Monday. He responded by going 1-for-6, hitting a two-run home run and scoring twice in Monday's game against Atlanta. Robert's home run kicked off a six-run rally for the White Sox in the fourth inning, ending a 10-game streak without a homer. During that period, he managed only 8-for-36 with one RBI, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. Despite a .218 batting average for the season, Robert is just two home runs shy of achieving his second 15-homer season.

Miguel Vargas delivers a strong multi-hit performance.

In a 13-9 victory over the Braves on Monday, Miguel Vargas had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a sacrifice fly, a run scored, an RBI, and a strikeout. He recorded his 26th double of the season, and his sacrifice fly in the top of the 4th inning brought in his 45th RBI, extending the White Sox lead to 6-0. It has been a challenging season for the 25-year-old, who is slashing .231/.307/.397 this year with 96 hits, including 41 extra-base hits, 59 runs scored, and maintaining a perfect 4-0 in stolen bases.

Víctor Mederos trails early in defeat. Yoán Moncada with one hit.

Víctor Mederos (0-1) surrendered three runs on nine hits and three walks, striking out three over five innings, resulting in a loss against the Reds on Monday. Mederos allowed a two-run homer to Gavin Lux in the first inning, and the Angels couldn't recover from that early setback. In his first two major league starts, Mederos has given up six runs on 12 hits and six walks over nine innings. He'll need to reduce the number of baserunners to be more effective as a starter. If he gets another start, he is tentatively scheduled for a home game against the Cubs this weekend.

In the same game, Yoán Moncada recorded one hit in four at-bats, including a strikeout. This hit contributed to his August performance, where the Cuban infielder is batting .321/.406/.393, with no home runs and just three RBIs. Overall, he has accumulated 8 home runs and 27 RBIs in a 2025 season marked by injuries.

Early home runs undo Néstor Cortés.

Néstor Cortés (1-2) surrendered four runs on seven hits and four walks, striking out five over 5 2/3 innings, resulting in a loss against the Giants on Monday. Cortés allowed all four runs via three home runs in the first inning. Prior to this, he had given up just one homer in his first two starts as a Padres, but his home debut for the team began poorly, and the deficit was too great for his teammates to overcome. This season, Cortés has a 5.87 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, and a 22:15 K:BB ratio over 23 innings in five starts between San Diego and Milwaukee. He is set for a challenging home start against the Dodgers this weekend.

Yariel Rodríguez took the loss in relief.

Yariel Rodríguez experienced his first defeat of the season after pitching 1 1/3 innings against the Pirates on Monday. In the 5-2 defeat, he entered in relief during the sixth inning, issued a walk, but concluded the inning without further trouble by striking out Alexander Canario. The following inning, he gave up a double to Henry Davis to left field, and after the runner advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Yariel was replaced. The runner eventually scored on a wild pitch by Brendon Little, giving the Pirates a 3-2 lead, and the Blue Jays were unable to rally. Yariel's ERA now stands at 3.19 for the season, despite recent struggles, having pitched 13 2/3 innings and allowing 10 hits and 8 earned runs in his last 15 games.

Randy Arozarena didn't get a hit on Monday.

In the Phillies' 12-7 win over the Mariners on Monday, Randy Arozarena went 0-for-4, drawing a walk and striking out once. This marked his fourth hitless game since August 13, during which he has managed only 3 hits in 26 at-bats, posting a slash line of .115/.207/.115 with one RBI and 8 strikeouts.

Edgar Quero took a rest on Monday.

Edgar Quero was not included in the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta. Quero had been in the starting position as either catcher or designated hitter in four of the White Sox's previous five games. However, he took a break on Monday as Chicago began a three-game series in Atlanta.

Yennier Cano allowed one run in the ninth inning while closing out Monday's victory against the Red Sox.

The Orioles brought in lefty Dietrich Enns to pitch the eighth inning with a 4-1 lead. After he completed the inning without allowing a run, he remained on the mound to face Roman Anthony in the ninth with a 6-1 lead. Anthony hit a single, prompting Cano to enter the game. Cano then walked Nathaniel Lowe and surrendered a two-run double to Jarren Duran with two outs before finally getting Ceddanne Rafaela to ground out, ending the game. Although it wasn’t a save situation for Cano, the circumstances suggest he would have earned a save if the Orioles hadn’t extended their lead in the ninth.

Andy Pagés fails to get a hit in Dodgers' loss.

In the Dodgers' 4-3 defeat on Monday, Andy Pagés had no hits in three at-bats, drawing one walk and striking out twice. The day before, Pagés had hit his 20th home run of the season, but it took him 21 days to achieve it. This underscores some of the challenges the young outfielder is currently experiencing, as he has managed 13 hits in 51 at-bats, with one home run, 6 RBIs, and 10 strikeouts over his last 15 games.

Jorge Soler scheduled for further testing.

Jorge Soler will keep undergoing tests on his back, and there is no set timeline for his return, according to Thomas Murray of The Sporting Tribune. Soler has been out of action since July 23 due to lower back inflammation. Angels interim manager Ray Montgomery highlighted the complexity of the issue, stating, "Those things can be tricky, especially when you're dealing with that part of your body." Although there is no current timeline for Soler's return, Montgomery expressed optimism that the slugger will be able to play again this season.

Pedro León is prepared for a rehab assignment.

According to Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle, Pedro León was set to start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday. León has been on the injured list for the entire season, initially diagnosed with a Grade 1 MCL sprain in his left knee in late February, and then re-injuring it in late May during his rehab assignment. After resting for a couple of weeks, he was cleared to resume activities around mid-June, but he went through a gradual ramp-up period before showing enough progress for the Astros to approve him for game action. Due to his lengthy absence, León will likely need a prolonged rehab assignment and might be optioned to Sugar Land once he is officially activated from the 60-day IL.
