Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources.

Raisel Iglesias secured a two-run advantage to achieve his 23rd save.

Raisel Iglesias struck out two batters in a flawless inning to secure the save in Sunday's 3-1 victory over Philadelphia. Iglesias had an outstanding August, conceding just one run while achieving a 13:0 K:BB over 13 innings. He recorded 10 saves this month, bringing his total to 23 for the year. Although he's experienced some difficult moments, as reflected in his 3.81 ERA over 56.2 innings, he maintains an impressive 1.02 WHIP and a 61:10 K:BB, indicating that his struggles have mostly been due to bad luck rather than a decline in skill.

Randy Arozarena hit his 26th home run.

Randy Arozarena hit a two-run home run, going 1-for-5 in Sunday's 4-2 victory over Cleveland. The Seattle outfielder evened the score at 2-2 with a 421-foot, two-run homer off Guardians starter Tanner Bibee in the fifth inning. This home run concludes an August during which Arozarena led off in all 27 games he participated in, batting .212 (24-for-113) with five home runs, four stolen bases, 21 runs scored, and 13 RBIs. Over 592 total plate appearances, the 30-year-old is currently slashing .242/.338/.454 with 82 runs scored and 66 RBIs.

Aroldis Chapman reaches 27 saves.

Aroldis Chapman secured the save on Sunday against the Pirates, striking out two batters in a flawless ninth inning. Recently having signed a one-year contract extension with the Red Sox, Chapman continued his impressive performance on Sunday, achieving his 27th save of the season. The left-hander has not allowed a hit in his last 12 2/3 innings, striking out 14 and issuing only four walks during that period. Chapman's ERA has decreased to 1.02, with a 0.66 WHIP and 76 strikeouts over 53 innings this year. Regarding the contract, the agreement secures the star lefty through the 2026 season with a guaranteed $13.3 million and includes a vesting mutual option for the 2027 season. If he meets a specific innings threshold, the 2027 season would also be guaranteed, totaling $26 million over the two years.

Yennier Cano aims to regain his form.

Yennier Cano pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief on Sunday against the Giants, giving up one hit and one walk without recording any strikeouts. While Cano has delivered four scoreless performances in his last six appearances, his last flawless outing was on August 2 against the Cubs. Considering the 31-year-old right-hander's difficulties — with a 6.46 ERA and 1.62 WHIP since early May — Keegan Akin is likely still the preferred choice for saves for the last-place Orioles.

Jorge Soler is becoming more active on the field.

Jorge Soler has increased his activities on the field as of Friday, engaging in catching flyballs along with facing high-velocity pitching, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. Although the 64-72 Angels are far from wild-card contention, Soler seems to be preparing for a return before the season ends, after being placed on the injured list on July 26 due to low back inflammation. He is gradually adding more activity to his workouts, but the Angels have not yet announced when he will begin a rehab assignment. Once Soler is off the IL, he is expected to resume his role as the Angels' primary right fielder, which will likely move Jo Adell back to center field more frequently.

José Iglesias did not get any hits while substituting for the injured Bogaerts.

In Sunday's game against the Twins, José Iglesias played as the shortstop and was eighth in the batting order. With Xander Bogaerts placed on the injured list Friday because of a non-displaced fracture in his left foot, Iglesias has found more opportunities in the San Diego infield. The 35-year-old made his fourth straight start on Sunday after hitting 3-for-12 with an RBI and a run scored in the three prior games. However, on Sunday, he went 0-for-4, bringing his season slash line down to .225/.296/.270.

César Prieto achieves his first MLB career hit.

César Prieto, who debuted in MLB with St. Louis this past Saturday, was included in the regular lineup for the first time on Sunday, playing as the second baseman and batting sixth. In the Cardinals' 7-4 defeat against the Reds, Prieto achieved his first MLB career hit by leading off the ninth inning, despite having struck out three times earlier. He finished the game 1-for-4 with three strikeouts. With 547 hits in the Minors, including 44 home runs and a .293/.339/.436 slash line, Prieto is receiving his first chance at the major league level at 26 years old and should aim to capitalize on this opportunity with a St. Louis team that's virtually out of contention this season.

Andy Pagés drove in two runs.

Andy Pagés drove in two runs on Sunday in the Dodgers' 5-4 victory over the D-backs. Batting cleanup, Pagés went 1-for-4 and struck out once. His two RBIs increased his season total to 77. He currently has a slash line of .275/.318/.463, with 23 home runs, 61 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases over 133 games.

The Marlins have called up outfielder Víctor Mesa Jr. from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Víctor Mesa Jr. made his return to the major leagues for the first time since the end of May, as Dane Myers was placed on the injured list due to an oblique strain. The 23-year-old prospect had a brief stint with the Marlins a few months ago, recording a 1-for-7 performance with an RBI across four games. On Sunday, he entered the game late to cover left field but did not have any at bats.

Adolis García achieved a multi-hit game.

During the Rangers' 9-6 victory against the A's on Sunday, Adolis García achieved a multi-hit performance. He recorded 2 hits in 5 at-bats, contributing one RBI, scoring a run, and striking out once. This RBI increased his season total to 73. Since rejoining the team from the IL on August 23, Adolis has been hitting an impressive .412/.444/.706, with 2 home runs, 9 RBIs, and three stolen bases.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had Sunday off.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had Sunday's game off against the Dodgers. The veteran outfielder, who had started the last 16 games, took a well-earned day off after achieving an .874 OPS with five home runs and 21 RBI in that period. He came into the game as a pinch hitter and ended up 0-for-1.

Yandy Díaz had a day off on Sunday.

Yandy Díaz was not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals. He took a break after starting six consecutive games, during which he went 8-for-23 with a solo home run, three doubles, two walks, and two additional runs.
