Luis D. Morales shines in Detroit victory.
Luis D. Morales (2-0) secured the victory against the Tigers on Wednesday, pitching seven innings without allowing a run. He gave up two hits and two walks while striking out seven batters. Morales gained strength as the game went on—he allowed three baserunners in his first three innings but only one in his last three. The right-hander achieved 11 whiffs among his 91 pitches and secured his third consecutive quality start. Morales made his MLB debut from the bullpen on August 1 and has started in each of his four appearances since. He's been a standout for the Athletics, posting a 1.19 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and a 22:10 K:BB ratio over 22.2 innings. Morales aims to continue his success in his next start, tentatively set to be on the road in St. Louis.
Adolis García hits three extra-base hits against the Angels.
Adolis García had an impressive performance, going 4-for-6 with a three-run home run, a two-RBI double, another double, and scoring two additional runs during Wednesday's 20-3 victory over the Angels. Adolis was central to Texas' 20-run explosion, matching the team high in RBI and leading solo in hits. The outfielder achieved his third game of the season with multiple doubles and his second game with three extra-base hits. Since being reinstated from the injured list on Saturday, Adolis has shown no signs of needing to readjust, hitting 9-for-20 (.450) with four doubles, two home runs, and three stolen bases.
Yordan Álvarez hit his first home run since returning from the injured list.
Yordan Álvarez had a 1-for-2 performance, hitting a two-run home run and scoring an additional run in Wednesday's 4-0 victory over Colorado. Activated from the injured list before Tuesday's series opener, Yordan went hitless with two walks in four plate appearances upon his return. On Wednesday, he walked twice more but secured his first hit since coming back by hitting a two-run homer off Angel Chivilli in the fourth inning. Before being placed on the injured list, Yordan had a slash line of .210/.306/.340 with three home runs in 121 plate appearances.
Aroldis Chapman excels once more, securing his 26th save.
Aroldis Chapman secured the save in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over Baltimore, striking out three batters in a flawless ninth inning. Chapman maintained his impressive form with this three-strikeout performance. The left-hander has pitched 11 2/3 innings without giving up a hit, allowing only four walks and striking out 14 during this period. The 37-year-old has successfully converted 26 of 28 save opportunities this season, boasting an outstanding 1.04 ERA, a 0.67 WHIP, and a 74:14 K:BB ratio over 52 innings.
Yandy Díaz contributed two additional hits.
Yandy Díaz extended his remarkable run by securing two hits in the Rays' 4-3 loss to the Guardians on Wednesday. Playing first base for just the 28th time this season, Yandy went 2-for-3, also drawing a walk and scoring a run. The 34-year-old has been outstanding over the past 15 games, hitting 20-for-58 with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs. He has already equaled his season-high of 22 home runs and is only 4 RBIs (74) away from his personal best, as well as 31 hits short of his top mark of 173 in 2023, when he won the American League batting title with a .330 average.
Luis Robert Jr. probably out for the rest of the season.
White Sox general manager Chris Getz admitted on Wednesday that Luis Robert Jr. might be out for the remainder of the season due to a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, as reported by Scott Merkin of MLB.com. Robert sustained the injury during Tuesday's 5-4 defeat against the Royals and was then placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. Considering his moderate strain diagnosis and the fact that the White Sox have fewer than five weeks of games left, Robert's return before the season ends seems unlikely. Getz also mentioned on Wednesday that the team is "committed to Luis," which might suggest that the organization intends to exercise Robert's $20 million team option for 2026 this offseason. If Robert's 2025 season is indeed concluded, he will end with a .223/.297/.364 batting average, 14 home runs, 33 stolen bases, 53 RBI, and 52 runs over 428 plate appearances. He showed significant improvement after the All-Star break, hitting .298/.352/.456, compared to his .190/.275/.325 performance in the first half.
Edgar Quero with multi-hit game.
In Wednesday's 12-1 defeat to the Royals, Edgar Quero took on the roles of designated hitter and catcher. He went 2-for-4 in the game, marking his fifth multi-hit performance in August. Despite playing just 86 games this season, Quero boasts a .286/.350/.384 slash line, with 4 home runs and 35 RBIs. Over his last 15 games, he is 16-for-49 with a home run and 9 RBIs.
Yoán Moncada remained out of the lineup against a left-handed pitcher once more.
Yoán Moncada was not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers. The Angels are keeping the switch-hitting Moncada out of the lineup for the second consecutive game as they go up against another left-handed starter, Jacob Latz.
