Yordan Álvarez shines in victory over the Yankees.

Yordan Álvarez had an outstanding performance in the Astros' victory over the New York Yankees on Wednesday. The Astros' left fielder excelled in their 8-7 triumph, going 4-for-5 at the plate and consistently troubling New York throughout the night. This was Yordan's first game this year with more than two hits. He played a significant role in the win, even hitting a game-tying single in the seventh inning, which was a pivotal moment in their emotional victory over the Yankees. Since returning from the injury list, Yordan is slashing .435/.563/.609 in 32 plate appearances, raising his OPS for the season to a more respectable .750. Prior to his recent improvement, his OPS was at .646.

Edgar Quero remains on fire with a solo home run.

In a 4-3 victory against the Twins on Wednesday, Edgar Quero hit 2-for-4, including a solo home run. Quero hit his fifth home run of the season, marking his first since August 12 against Detroit. As a switch-hitting catcher, he has maintained a respectable .737 OPS in his rookie season and has performed even better in his last 18 games. Over this period, Quero has an impressive .351 batting average, with two home runs, two doubles, 10 RBIs, and eight runs scored in his last 57 at-bats.

Yandy Díaz achieves a personal best with five hits in a game.

Yandy Díaz achieved a perfect 5-for-5 performance, including a double and a run scored, during Wednesday's 9-4 victory over the Mariners. The seasoned infielder set a new personal record with five hits, maintaining an impressive streak at the plate, as the 34-year-old has gone 28-for-70 (.400) since August 11. This career-best performance on Wednesday also improved Díaz's season stats to .294/.353/.479, with 22 home runs, 76 RBIs, and 68 runs scored over 569 plate appearances, bringing him closer to reaching career highs in both home runs and RBIs.

Yennier Cano secures his second save.

Yennier Cano secured the save in Wednesday's 7-5 victory over San Diego by striking out two in a flawless ninth inning. Cano was impressive, striking out two to earn his second save of the season, his first since July 5. The 31-year-old has shown improvement recently, conceding just one run over his last six outings (5 2/3 innings) to regain a key role in Baltimore's bullpen. His ERA currently stands at 5.07 with a 1.45 WHIP and a 47:22 K:BB ratio over 49 2/3 innings this season.

Néstor Cortés allows four home runs.

Néstor Cortés (2-4) suffered the loss on Wednesday against the Orioles, surrendering six runs on seven hits and three walks over 2 1/3 innings. He recorded two strikeouts. It was a challenging outing for the left-hander, who allowed a home run to Jackson Holliday at the start of the game, followed by five runs on three consecutive home runs in the third inning. Cortés has pitched just 5 1/3 innings over his last two starts, conceding nine runs on 12 hits during that period. His ERA has risen to 6.29, with a 1.63 WHIP and a 29:20 K:BB ratio over 34 1/3 innings pitched between the Padres and Brewers this season.

Yanquiel Fernández was not in the starting lineup against a left-handed pitcher.

Yanquiel Fernandez was not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants. While he'll sit on the bench as left-hander Robbie Ray pitches for the Giants, Yanquiel, who bats left-handed, has been increasingly included in the lineup against right-handed pitchers. He started all of the last five games against right-handers, achieving 7 hits in 17 at-bats, with two home runs, two doubles, four RBIs, and three runs scored during that period.

Raisel Iglesias and Aroldis Chapman were named the National League and American League Relievers of the Month for August, respectively.

Raisel Iglesias earned his fourth career Reliever of the Month Award, marking his third with the Braves after winning in August for both 2023 and 2024. Before his trio of awards with Atlanta, he received the honor in July 2021 while playing for the Los Angeles Angels. His three awards now tie him with Craig Kimbrel (August 2011, September 2012, and August 2013) for the most in the franchise's history, with Kimbrel being the only other Braves reliever to achieve this recognition. The 35-year-old achieved a 0.69 ERA (1 ER/13.0 IP), successfully converting all 10 save opportunities over 13 appearances. During this time, he allowed eight hits, issued no walks, struck out 13 batters, maintained a 0.62 WHIP, held opponents to a .170 average, and recorded 9.00 strikeouts per 9.0 innings.

Meanwhile, Aroldis Chapman received his sixth career award and his first with the Red Sox, having previously won twice with the Cincinnati Reds in July and August 2012, and three times with the New York Yankees, including in September 2017, May 2019, and August 2019. He is the fifth Boston reliever to receive this honor since the award's inception in 2005, joining Jonathan Papelbon (April 2006), Kimbrel (May 2017), Brandon Workman (September 2019), and most recently Matt Barnes (April 2021). Chapman's six career awards rank fourth all-time, behind Edwin Díaz (10), Josh Hader (8), and Emmanuel Clase (7). The two relievers are the only Cuban-born players to win the award, marking the first time a Cuban-born player has won in each league in a month. The 37-year-old achieved a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/11.0 IP), successfully converting all eight save opportunities over 12 appearances, allowing no hits with one walk, 14 strikeouts, a 0.09 WHIP, a .000 opponents' batting average, and 11.45 strikeouts per 9.0 innings, striking out 14 of the 34 batters he faced.

Víctor Mederos ends season early.

On Wednesday, the Angels moved Víctor Mederos from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL. Mederos was placed on the 15-day IL on August 24 due to shoulder inflammation following his third start of the season for the Angels. His transition to the 60-day IL now concludes his 2025 season. If Mederos doesn't need any procedures to treat his shoulder injury, he is expected to be fully healthy for spring training, where he will aim to secure a spot in the Halos' Opening Day rotation.

Adolis García stayed on the bench Wednesday.

Adolis García was absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. García sat out for the second consecutive day due to a Grade 2 right quad strain. MLB.com reports that manager Bruce Bochy mentioned on Tuesday he anticipates Adolis will be sidelined for a few more days. However, the Rangers are hopeful that the experienced outfielder will not need to be placed on the injured list.
