Raisel Iglesias gave up two hits but did not concede a run, securing a save in a 4-2 victory over the Reds on Sunday.
Raisel Iglesias added some suspense, but he managed to get Jake Fraley to pop up with two runners on base, securing his 14th save of the season. The veteran faced a challenging period at the end of spring that nearly jeopardized his role as closer. However, since June 6th, he has pitched with a 2.17 ERA over 20 2/3 innings, recording 24 strikeouts, four walks, and six saves. He has undoubtedly returned to the form everyone remembers as a closer.
Adolis García goes 3-3 with home run in Rangers' 5-4 loss.
Adolis García delivered a perfect 3-3 performance, hitting a single, double, and home run. He crossed the plate twice and drew a walk in the Rangers' 5-4 defeat against the Mariners. In the 2025 regular season, Adolis has a batting average of .228, with 92 hits from 404 at-bats. His on-base percentage is .273, and he has a slugging percentage of .399, leading to an OPS of .672. García has hit 16 home runs and driven in 63 RBIs over 108 games, along with 21 doubles and 10 stolen bases, showcasing encouraging statistics late in the season.
Luis Robert Jr.'s impressive streak persisted.
During Sunday's 8-5 defeat against the Angels, Luis Robert Jr. extended his hitting streak to six games by going 2-for-4, scoring a run, and earning an RBI. Although Robert won't surpass his career highs for the rest of the season, he can end the year strong, setting the stage for a promising 2026 leading a young and talented Chicago team. Over his last 15 games, he's batting .380/.435/.500 with two home runs, 11 RBIs, and seven stolen bases.
Adrián Morejón punished by the Cardinals.
Adrián Morejón experienced his toughest outing of the season, giving up three earned runs on four hits without recording an out, during the Padres' 7-3 win. It was a disastrous relief appearance, which also included a walk. His last seven games don't accurately represent the Cuban's effectiveness this year, as he has a 5.40 ERA over 6 2/3 innings with six hits and four earned runs allowed, despite a 9:11 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Morejón is maintaining an outstanding 2025 season, and Sunday's performance seems to be just a blip in his statistics, with an 8-4 record, a 2.17 ERA, two saves, and a 0.85 WHIP over 49 2/3 innings and 53 games.
Randy Arozarena achieves 21st steal.
In the 5-4 victory against the Rangers, Randy Arozarena went 1-for-3 and drew a walk. He also notched his 21st steal of the season and hit his 24th double of the year. The Cuban player, who recently achieved his fifth straight 20/20 season, has now reached 22 home runs and 21 steals. He maintains a .250/.351/.473 slash line over 111 games and 481 plate appearances, consistent with his career MLB record.
Andy Pagés with an RBI.
Andy Pagés went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the Dodgers' 3-0 victory over the Rays on Sunday. Pagés is currently experiencing an offensive slump, batting only .143/.172/.143 with no home runs and just one RBI over his last seven games. The Cuban outfielder hasn't hit a home run since July 19, and his RBI on Sunday was only his second since July 25. Despite this, Pagés still boasts 19 home runs this season, and his 65 RBIs tie him for the lead among all Cuban players, alongside Yandy Díaz.
Johan Oviedo was activated from the 60-day injured list to start for the Pirates on Monday against the Giants.
Johan Oviedo was activated from the 60-day injured list to start Monday's contest versus the Giants at PNC Park, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Oviedo missed all of the 2024 season and the entirety of the 2025 campaign to date while recovering from December 2023 Tommy John surgery as well as a right lat strain sustained during spring training. The right-hander was cleared to begin a second rehab assignment June 30, and after six starts across stops in the rookie-level Florida Complex League, Single-A Bradenton, Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis, he's ready to make his 2025 debut in the majors. In his most recent outing with Indianapolis on Tuesday, Oveido allowed one run on two hits while striking out five batters over five innings. He tossed 62 pitches in that start, so he'll likely face a workload restriction in his first MLB appearance of the season. The 27-year-old hurler has made six minor league rehab starts to this point, registering a 3.12 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 21/4 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings.
Yanquiel Fernández achieved a multi-hit game.
Yanquiel Fernández went 2-for-4 with a strikeout in the Rockies' 9-5 defeat against the Pirates. This marked Yanquiel's third multi-hit game of the season, as he maintains a strong start to August, posting a .375/.375/.750 slash line with two RBIs. Yanquiel made his MLB debut on July 1st, and after achieving a .308/.308/.385 slash line with one RBI in his first four games, he ended July with a .208/.224/.250 line. At just 22 years old, the young player hopes to secure a spot in the Rockies' regular lineup and leverage this year's experience at this level for a promising future.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. did not get any hits.
Following his performance of two RBIs in Saturday's game, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went hitless in five at-bats, with one strikeout, during the D-backs' 6-4 victory over the A's on Sunday. Serving as the designated hitter, Gurriel aimed to concentrate on improving his batting after experiencing an offensive slump, during which he posted a .183/.242/.200 slash line with no home runs and only three RBIs over his past 15 games.
Jorge Soler has not yet started baseball workouts again.
According to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, Jorge Soler has not yet returned to participating in baseball activities since being placed on the 10-day injured list on July 26.
Soler is set to be eligible to return from the IL today, but it's evident he will require more than the minimum 10 days to recover from his low back inflammation. The 33-year-old had a previous stint on the IL from June 20 to June 30 due to a back issue, which might lead the Angels to adopt a more cautious strategy for his current recovery.
The Padres reinstated LHP Néstor Cortés from the 60-day injured list.
Néstor Cortés is set to make his debut for San Diego on Friday against the Red Sox. After being traded from the Brewers at the deadline, Cortés will be added to the Padres' 26-man active roster, having missed nearly four months due to a flexor strain. In his last rehab appearance at Triple-A Nashville on July 24, the left-hander threw 93 pitches over 5 2/3 innings, indicating he should be ready for a full starter's workload when he debuts for the Padres. There's an open spot in San Diego's rotation for next weekend against Boston, but the Padres might have Cortés pitch during the three-game series in Arizona starting Monday.
Yoán Moncada on bench in Moore's return.
Yoán Moncada was absent from the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. After sitting out three consecutive games due to a hand injury, Moncada rejoined the lineup on Wednesday, going 1-for-9 with a walk and a run while starting at third base in each of the following three games. With the Angels reinstating Christian Moore from the injured list on Sunday, he was placed at second base, and Luis Rengifo moved to third base, leaving no spot for Moncada in the lineup. To ensure consistent at-bats for Moore, Moncada, and Rengifo, the Angels might consider a rotation involving the second- and third-base positions in the near future.
Miguel Vargas is sidelined due to an oblique strain.
On Sunday, the White Sox placed Vargas on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain. Vargas was taken out of the lineup before Saturday's 1-0 win because of this injury and will be sidelined for at least another nine days, although no official return date has been set. As a result, Curtis Mead was promoted from Triple-A Charlotte and may play at first base while Vargas is unavailable.
