This Sunday, in the main hall of the Julio Antonio Mella stadium, the roster of the Tunas Leñadores for the upcoming 64th National Baseball Series, set to begin on September 2, was announced.
With a somewhat revamped lineup, the Cuban champion team, once more under the leadership of Abeysi Pantoja, will take to the field aiming for its third straight national title, following their victories in the 62nd and 63rd editions of the Cuban tournaments.
Compared to recent historical teams, there are three notable absences: Rafael Viñales, Denis Peña, and Danel Castro. The first two have emigrated, while Danel has officially retired.
The team features another player, Osmani Urrutia Jr., who emigrated but has since returned to Cuba to take part in the Cuban tournament.

Reports indicate that the 64th National Baseball Series will commence its qualifying stage on September 2, following the same format as in previous years.
The top eight teams will move on to the postseason, with the quarter-final stage occurring from December 20 to 28. According to the schedule, the semifinals will start on January 4, 2026, and the final is set for January 23.
The top six teams from the tournament will move on to the fourth edition of the Elite League of Cuban baseball. Meanwhile, the champions of the 64th National Series will represent Cuba in the third edition of the Americas Champions Baseball League. Notably, Las Tunas was the finalist in this year's edition of the tournament, losing 6-1 for the title against the Red Devils of Mexico.
