Vargas smacked a leadoff double off of Andrew Abbott in the fourth inning and scored the game’s first run on an RBI knock by Edgar Quero. He then broke it open with a 373-foot (101.7 mph EV) three-run blast off of Emilio Pagan in the 10th inning that increased the White Sox’ lead to 5-1. He's looked much better at the plate over the last few weeks, slashing .328/.414/.541 with three homers, nine RBI, 10 runs and a 9:7 BB:K in 17 games.
Overall, Vargas has picked up the pace considerably since his brutal start to the season and is now hitting .221/.314/.350 with three homers and 15 RBI on the season.
Aroldis Chapman pitched one scoreless inning.

According to MLB.com, Néstor Cortés began playing catch again last week. After being placed on the injured list on April 6 due to a left elbow flexor strain, Cortés received a platelet-rich plasma injection and was sidelined for about a month before being allowed to start his throwing program. The Brewers have not yet confirmed that Cortés has been approved for mound work, so he is likely still working on increasing his throwing distance on flat ground. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on April 21 and will not be eligible to return to Milwaukee until early June.
