Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources.

Aroldis Chapman secures his 23rd save.

Aroldis Chapman delivered a flawless inning to secure the save in Thursday's 6-3 victory over the Yankees. Despite throwing only seven of his 14 pitches for strikes, Chapman managed to retire the core of the Yankees' lineup with a pop-out and two groundouts. Since July 26, Chapman has pitched 8.2 innings without allowing a run or hit, achieving a 9:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 11 appearances during that period. This season, he has successfully converted 23 of 25 save opportunities, maintaining an impressive 1.10 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, and a 69:14 strikeout-to-walk ratio, numbers that match or surpass his performances during his peak years.

Yandy Díaz avoids a serious injury.

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Díaz exited Thursday's game due to soreness in his right hamstring, which was later identified by the manager as a low-grade hamstring strain, according to Ryan Bass of Fanduel Sports Network Sun.

He seemed affected by the injury in the fifth inning but remained in the game until the seventh, when Jake Mangum replaced him as a pinch hitter. Kevin Cash expressed hope that the injury isn't serious and mentioned they will reassess his condition tomorrow. Before leaving the game, the 34-year-old was performing well, going 2-for-3 with a home run, marking his 21st of the season. For now, he is considered day-to-day, with more clarity on the severity expected tomorrow.

Adrián Morejón with another scoreless inning.

Adrián Morejón pitched another scoreless inning in the Padres' 8-4 victory over the Giants. During his 61st start of the year, Morejón allowed one walk and recorded no strikeouts. This marked his eighth consecutive scoreless appearance in August, despite starting the month by giving up three earned runs on August 3 without securing an out. He has pitched 8 2/3 innings this month, maintaining a 3.12 ERA with an 8:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Morejón has been outstanding this season, achieving nine wins, a 1.85 ERA, and a 58:12 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 58 1/3 innings.

Andy Pagés went 2-for-4 with a solo homer against the Rockies on Thursday. Yanquiel Fernández with one hit.

It was intriguing to observe how the player, who has been inconsistent offensively in recent weeks, had his role in the lineup adjusted, batting seventh against the Rockies. Andy Pagés responded by hitting his 21st double of the year during his first at-bat in the second inning and scored the Dodgers' third run shortly after. Following a strikeout in the next inning, Pagés rebounded by hitting his 21st home run of the season at the start of the fifth inning. He also drew a walk in the seventh inning and was caught stealing. He concluded the day with a 2-for-4 showing, contributing one RBI, two runs, and two strikeouts to his impressive 2025 season. The 24-year-old outfielder now has 21 home runs and is slashing .274/.321/.460, with 57 runs scored, 71 RBIs, and thirteen stolen bases over 502 plate appearances.

In the same game for the Rockies, Yanquiel Fernández wasn't in the starting lineup but came in as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning. He hit a single to right field and scored shortly after on a home run by Brenton Doyle. In his debut MLB season, Yanquiel has a .250/.269/.316 batting average over 28 games, with one home run, 23 RBIs, and 23 strikeouts.

Yordan Álvarez had a successful performance on Thursday, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI during a minor league rehab game for Double-A Corpus Christi.

Yordan Álvarez looks set to rejoin Houston's lineup after delivering three hits, including two doubles, in his second minor league rehab game at the Double-A level. Astros general manager Dana Brown mentioned last weekend that the 28-year-old power hitter might return this coming weekend against the Orioles in Baltimore. This seems very likely following another standout performance in the minors. He's been sidelined since early May due to a fracture in his right hand. Yordan will immediately boost Houston's offense, which has been struggling recently and went 31 innings without scoring a run earlier this week during three consecutive losses.
