The Americas Series (SLA) is moving to Venezuela in 2026, with a new edition previously promised for Panama. This tournament, to be held from February 1st to 7th, is presented as a fresh and different alternative to the traditional Caribbean Series, offering a revamped format and diverse participation. The organization and specific rules of the event are generating excitement and curiosity about how this competition will unfold on Venezuelan soil.
A new chapter for Venezuelan baseball
The decision to have Venezuela host the second edition of the Americas Series responds to the need to maintain an international baseball event in the country, after the Caribbean Series was not held in Venezuela in 2026 and the South American country was excluded from the 2026 Caribbean Series.
The Baseball Association of the Americas (ABAM) is in charge of organizing this competition, which will take place in two main venues:
Monumental Stadium "Simón Bolívar" in Caracas
Forum La Guaira Stadium in Macuto
These stadiums, renowned for their infrastructure and capacity, will be the epicenter of a week full of action and talent.
The first edition of this tournament was held in 2025 in Nicaragua and Panama took the title.
Key differences with the Caribbean Series
Although the Americas Series aims to occupy a similar space on the national sports calendar, it presents important differences compared to the traditional Caribbean Series. The most notable is the absence of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) champion. This is because the LVBP is not part of the Baseball Association of the Americas, and therefore its champion is not eligible to participate.
In addition, the Venezuelan host team must comply with a technical restriction limiting the participation of players, coaches, or staff affiliated with the Major League Baseball (MLB) system. This rule is in place because the Series of the Americas is not part of the Winter League Agreement , the agreement that governs the participation of Major League personnel in winter leagues.
This regulation implies that the Venezuelan team will be made up of local talent or players from independent leagues, which opens a window to discover new figures and strengthen national baseball from another angle.
Tournament Participants and Format
The 2026 edition of the Americas Series will feature an interesting mix of league and national team champions. The confirmed participants are:
Daom Club (Argentina)
Champions of the leagues of Colombia, Curacao and Nicaragua
National teams of Cuba, Brazil and Panama
Panama arrives as the defending champion, following the victory of the Metropolitan Eagles in the first edition of 2025. This diversity of teams guarantees a competitive tournament with varied playing styles, which will enrich the experience for spectators.
The Venezuelan team outside the traditional cycle
Unlike other international tournaments, the Venezuelan team in this Series of the Americas will not be the LVBP champion nor will it include players affiliated with MLB. So far, the roster has not been announced, but it is expected to include players from local leagues, independent leagues, or even young prospects looking to showcase their talent on an international stage.
This situation presents both a challenge and an opportunity for Venezuelan baseball. On the one hand, the absence of Major League stars may reduce its appeal to some fans. On the other, it allows new players to gain experience and visibility, strengthening the sport's development in the country.
The Americas Series is presented as an event that, although different from the Caribbean Series, has the potential to become an important tradition for Venezuela and the region.
