Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources.

Miguel Vargas is on a five-game hitting streak.

Miguel Vargas is currently on a modest five-game hitting streak, having gone 1-for-3 on Wednesday during the White Sox's 9-4 win over the Mets. His only hit was his 15th double of the season.

Vargas is also reaching base more often, drawing two walks on Wednesday. Vargas scored two runs in the game and struck out once. The Cuban infielder is a standout this year among Cubans in the Majors, establishing himself as a notable hitter after three challenging years with the Dodgers and the White Sox. In his last 31 games, Vargas is batting .316/.382/.607 with eight home runs, 10 doubles and 18 runs.

Yoán Moncada exited Wednesday’s game against the Yankees due to soreness in his right knee.

Yoán Moncada was substituted by Kevin Newman at third base at the start of the sixth inning after recording a 1-for-2 performance with a double. The 30-year-old infielder will undergo further evaluation to assess the seriousness of the issue. The good news is that it is not connected to the thumb problem that troubled him earlier this season. An update on his condition is expected before Friday’s series opener against the Guardians.

Aroldis Chapman made a comeback on Wednesday.

Following a blown save opportunity on Tuesday, Aroldis Chapman returned on Wednesday to pitch a scoreless ninth inning in a non-save situation against the Brewers. Despite Boston's 6-5 loss in 10 innings, Chapman gave up a hit but allowed no runs and struck out one batter. He has accumulated 8 saves this season, with an ERA of 2.05, a 3-2 record, and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 29:8 over 24 games and 22 innings. Interestingly, the Red Sox have suffered 8 losses when Chapman pitches, the highest number among all roster pitchers this year.

Jorge Soler achieved a game with multiple hits.

It's unusual to see Jorge Soler have a multi-hit game, but the Cuban outfielder went 2-for-3 on Wednesday in a 1-0 loss to the Yankees. He also drew a walk and struck out. Soler was not in the lineup on Tuesday but returned batting fifth and playing right field. This was just his third multi-hit game in May, a month during which he is recording a .202/.287/.310 slash line with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs.

Edgar Quero did not get any hits on Wednesday.

Following a three-hit game on Tuesday, Edgar Quero went hitless against the Mets on Wednesday. He gave up catching duties to Korey Lee, who was activated from the 10-day IL, and served as the designated hitter for the White Sox. Quero went 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout. The promising Cuban catcher has seen a decline this season, batting only .216/.286/.275 over his last 15 games, after starting his MLB career with a .306/.432/.361 in his first month.

Yandy Díaz hitless again.

Yandy Díaz went 0-for-4 on Wednesday in a 5-0 defeat against the Twins. He hasn't hit a single in his last nine at-bats and is currently 1-for-21 with 8 strikeouts over his past five games. Known for his consistent hitting, Yandy is definitely experiencing a slump right now.

Andy Pagés recorded a RBI on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Andy Pagés went 1-for-4 in a 7-4 defeat against the Guardians. He hit an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie. This RBI marked his 32nd of the year, making him the leading Cuban player in that category.

Luis Robert Jr. was not included in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Mets because of knee soreness.

Initially, it appeared to be a standard day off for Robert when he sat out on Tuesday, but it was revealed he has a minor knee problem. According to Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times, Robert stated he expects to be ready for Friday's series opener against Baltimore. The 27-year-old has been productive this season with 21 stolen bases, though he's batting only .190/.276/.307 and has a 29 percent strikeout rate.

Randy Arozarena hitless on Wednesday.

Randy Arozarena went 0-for-3 on Wednesday during a 9-0 defeat to the Nationals, striking out twice. It's been a challenging year and month for Arozarena. After batting just .188 in five games in March and .211 in April, Arozarena was showing improvement, with his batting average in May reaching a yearly high of .247. However, he is currently in a slump, going nine consecutive at-bats without a hit, and is batting only .196/.297/.321 in his last 15 games, with one home run, two RBIs, and just one stolen base.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. recorded one hit on Wednesday.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is currently on a six-game hitting streak, following a 1-for-4 showing in the D-backs' 10-1 defeat to the Pirates. In May, Gurriel has maintained a strong performance, hitting .312/.367/.525 with 4 home runs and 16 RBIs. This success has placed him second in RBIs (31) this year among Cuban players.

Víctor Mesa Jr. did not get any hits on Wednesday.

After achieving his first MLB hit and RBI on Tuesday, Víctor Mesa Jr. took the field once more on Wednesday, contributing to the Marlins' 10-8 victory over the Padres. Batting ninth and covering center field, he went 0-for-2, drew a walk, and scored the first run of his MLB career. This marks his second consecutive game as a starter.

Adolis García's struggles persist.

Adolis García's batting struggles persisted on Wednesday during the Rangers' 2-0 loss to the Blue Jays. He was hitless in three at-bats, striking out twice, which dropped his season batting average to .208. He is now hitless in his last eight at-bats and has accumulated five strikeouts over his last three games and nine at-bats.

Johan Oviedo is close to participating in live batting practice.

According to MLB.com, Joan Oviedo is conducting side sessions without experiencing any discomfort. Oviedo has been pitching for about five weeks and is scheduled to throw live batting practice in the next week to 10 days. Although he has made progress, he will need an extended rehab assignment, which will probably sideline him until sometime in July.

Activation of Pedro León is awaiting completion.

Pedro León will persist with his rehabilitation at Triple-A Sugar Land and is expected to be taken off the 10-day injured list either Thursday or Friday. As part of his rehab assignment, León participated in three games in the Florida Complex League, achieving a 4-for-12 record with three home runs. He appears to have fully recovered from the knee sprain and is anticipated to be called up in the coming days.
