Cuban Players News for the 2025 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources.

Yandy Díaz shines at the plate on Saturday.

Yandy Díaz went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, a walk, two runs scored, and three RBIs in Saturday's 16-3 victory over the Astros. He gave the Rays their first lead with a two-run homer in the third inning and added a run-scoring double to conclude the scoring in the ninth. This marked Yandy's fifth three-hit game of the season and his first since May 4. He ended May on a high note, despite batting just .224 (22-for-98) during the month, contributing five home runs and 21 RBIs over 24 games.

Andy Pagés hits a solo home run in a dominant win.

Andy Pagés went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two walks on Saturday in the 18-2 win against the Yankees. Before the seventh inning, Pagés was the only Los Angeles starting position player who hadn't scored, but he changed that with a solo home run to center field off Luke Weaver. The second-year outfielder concluded May with seven RBIs in his last five games, hitting .350 (7-for-20) during that stretch. Over the month, Pagés batted .259 with four home runs, 25 RBIs, 12 runs, and three stolen bases in 26 games.

Yariel Rodríguez scoreless streak extended.

Yariel Rodríguez extended his scoreless streak to 15 1/3 innings. On Saturday, Yariel delivered a strong performance in a high leverage situation, pitching 1 1/3 flawless innings with two strikeouts, securing his seventh hold of the season in the Blue Jays' 8-7 victory over the A's. Currently, Yariel is one of the top-performing middle relievers in the majors, boasting a 1.40 ERA over his last 15 games, with 19 1/3 innings pitched and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 20:3.

Yoán Moncada hits a home run in his comeback.

Yoán Moncada had a 2-for-4 performance, hitting a solo home run and scoring another run in Saturday's 7-5 defeat against the Guardians. Moncada rejoined the Angels' lineup on Saturday after sitting out Friday's game due to soreness in his right knee. He scored the first run for the Halos in the third inning with a solo homer and later crossed the plate in the fifth inning following a double by Mike Trout. Moncada concludes the month of May with a .253/.329/.573 slash line, recording six home runs and 15 RBIs over 85 plate appearances.

Daysbel Hernández was perfect on Saturday.

Daysbel Hernández returned to form in the Braves' 5-0 victory over Boston on Saturday. In his previous two outings, Daysbel had been erratic, allowing four walks and two runs in the Braves' losses. However, this Saturday, he delivered a perfect performance in the win. Daysbel entered the game after starter Spencer Schwellenbach pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings and continued the trend by securing two outs, both via strikeouts. He used only 8 pitches in his performance, with 6 of them being strikes. This is the level of play the Braves expect from Daysbel, who now has a 2.25 ERA over 24 games.

Randy Arozarena hitless on Saturday.

Randy Arozarena went hitless again on Saturday during the Mariners' 5-4 victory over the Twins. Arozarena was 0-for-5 with one strikeout, which brought his slash line down to .219/.346/.388 for the year. He has had a tough May, going 22-for-95 (.232) with an OPS of .698. He is looking to reset in June to enhance his season, where he currently has 7 homers, 23 RBIs, and a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen bases.

Miguel Vargas, Luis Robert Jr., and Edgar Quero did not get any hits on Saturday.

Miguel Vargas, Luis Robert Jr., and Edgar Quero collectively went 0-for-9 in the White Sox's 4-2 defeat against the Orioles. Vargas's six-game hitting streak was snapped with a 0-for-4 showing, including a walk and a strikeout. Luis Robert's difficulties persisted as he went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts. Quero came in as a pinch hitter and drew a walk.

Yennier Cano secures hold No. 10.

Yennier Cano achieved his 10th hold of the year during the Orioles' 4-2 win over the White Sox. However, Cano faced difficulties once more, giving up two hits—Vinny Capra's double and Mike Tauchman's single—resulting in one run in just 1/3 of an inning. With a 0-4 record and a 4.74 ERA over 19 innings, Cano is aiming to avoid the same outcome as his former pitching partner Cionel Pérez.

Jorge Soler went hitless on Saturday.

During Saturday's 7-5 defeat against the Guardians, Jorge Soler had a 0-for-4 performance, including one strikeout. This outing reduced his season slash line to .226/.298/.400, with 8 home runs and 23 RBIs.

Dairon Blanco did not get any hits in the game against the Tigers on Saturday.

Dairon Blanco started on Saturday against the Tigers, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout against the impressive Tarik Skubal. He was subsequently replaced by Kyle Isbel. Blanco spent much of the season sidelined with right Achilles tendinopathy but was activated from the IL on May 16. Since then, he has appeared in just five games, recording one hit in five at-bats, with one RBI and one stolen base. Currently, the speedster is in a reserve role, but there's potential for him to climb the depth chart in a Royals outfield that lacks talent.

José Iglesias hitless on Saturday.

José Iglesias went 0-for-1 in the Padres' 5-0 defeat against the Pirates on Saturday. Iglesias did not start the game but came in as a pinch hitter. After a productive April where he posted a .286/.342/.343 slash line with 75 at-bats over 22 games, his playing time has decreased in May to just 13 games with 35 at-bats, as he serves in a limited role with the team. Unless he improves his performance when given opportunities, his situation with the Padres is unlikely to change.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was absent from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Nationals.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. took a break on Saturday against Michael Soroka and the Washington pitching team. Gurriel went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday's game, pushing his hitting streak to seven games, with five of those being multi-hit performances.

The Orioles have outrighted LHP Cionel Pérez to Triple-A Norfolk.

Cionel Pérez went unclaimed on waivers after being taken off Baltimore’s 40-man roster last weekend. The 29-year-old left-hander struggled with an elevated 8.31 ERA over 21 2/3 innings (19 appearances) this season. Considering his history, he should be able to find a spot elsewhere if he chooses free agency. However, he may need to accept a minor league contract. If he stays with the Orioles organization and reports to Triple-A, he'll aim to regain his control and perform well enough to earn a return to the majors.

Uncertain timeline for Adolis García's return.

Adolis García received additional time off to mentally reset after batting .208 with seven home runs and five stolen bases over the first 56 games of the season. The 32-year-old power hitter is expected to return to right field later this weekend, but Rangers manager Bruce Bochy might consider giving him the entire series off to take a break from the game. Bochy mentioned following Saturday's 2-0 defeat by the Cardinals that the Rangers have devised a strategy for Adolis's rest, intending to provide the 32-year-old slugger with as many days off as necessary to regain his form, according to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. The situation is crucial for Adolis and closely resembles what the Astros faced with José Abreu last year. We hope Adolis's journey concludes differently than Abreu's did.

Yordan Álvarez has a minor fracture in his right hand.

According to Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest, Yordan Álvarez underwent imaging after Friday's batting practice, which revealed a fracture that is 60 percent healed. As a result, he will refrain from hitting until the fracture is completely healed. Despite the batting practice going well, Yordan experienced some discomfort, prompting the examination. Morales noted that the fracture was previously undetected due to inflammation in Yordan's hand. Although he seemed close to returning from the injured list, the veteran slugger is now expected to be out for at least a few more weeks. Astros general manager Dana Brown told reporters on Saturday that the 27-year-old star has been temporarily halted from swinging, but he is expected to return in the "near future." This development is concerning but explains why Yordan's recovery seemed to stall recently, as he continued to feel discomfort while swinging a bat. There is currently no specific timeline for his return.

The Marlins have sent OF Víctor Mesa Jr. to Triple-A Jacksonville.

Víctor Mesa Jr. returns to the minors after a brief stint with the Marlins, where he went 1-for-7 with an RBI in four games. The 23-year-old prospect is expected to have a longer opportunity in the major leagues eventually, but currently, there isn't a place for him with regulars Kyle Stowers and Dane Myers in good health.
